Don't stop making videos. Your channel may be small and your subscribers few, but we value your perspective on games and enjoy your reviews. Your Trashed Classics series is particularly awesome. You have dug up quite a few hidden gems that I didn't know about, so thanks for that.
You can tell this game's devs didn't really contact a publicist or get a publisher on board or something because it came out in 2018 the same year as Celeste and the same year Hollow Knight really blew up and it's up there with those games but not a single major video game media outlet reviewed this game whereas everyone reviewed Celeste and HK
It's because it's all made by hand, it's written from scratch based on the Impact JS engine, no crappy generic RPG maker assets or stuff like that. The devs actually hold a development stream every sunday on Twitch (look for RadicalFishGames)
Madara Uchiha like, looking at the impactjs docs because of crosscode, I'm seriously considering trying it out O-o no more making my own shitty JavaScript engines :D
I bought this game last week or so, and I highly recommend it! Not a lot of games are polished like this. The fact that a multiplayer setting in a single player game feels alive makes all the characters believable. This game's an instant classic in my book, even if it's still a work in progress~ Also, your reviews are top-notch and high quality, therefore you won yourself a subscriber--*Subscribes*
Yeah! I love feeling like there's people in my game with me, but not having to interact with actual people...........Am I socially awkward?? Thanks man!
The thing about the puzzles in Crosscode is that they're easy to conceptualize but often challenging to execute, with some satisfying moves to top it off. That's what makes it so engaging and not as boring as every other game. Most other games fail by making the solutions to their puzzles too obscure and/or making them too easy to execute. And Crosscode does them in a way where they are just difficult enough, keeping them from becoming more frustrating than fun, making you stay very confident in your mental abilities, along with keeping everything feeling extra creative even on old puzzle concepts.
Posting on this review being nearly 6 years old, I can confirm that this was an early access title turned into a wonderful finished game. Do be wary there is an extended epilogue DLC, but I thought it was well worth it.
Why is this game a "trashed" classic? You spent so much time gushing about how amazing it is, but you didn't mention who trashes it and why. What are everyone's gripes about this game?
This show is more about underrated and unheard of games. I figure, there's soooo many choices now a days, it's easy to miss out on some kick ass games. So I figured I would cover games that have been left by the wayside.
he's right. not a lot of people play, or at least record or upload, crosscode. and those who do usually don't get that much views. there isn't even a lot of fan art or fan animations of it anywhere, which saddens me as i'd love to see fight animations of crosscode.
LOL...turns out this game is already in my Steam library. I probably buy too many bundles. I'll have to favorite it to make sure it gets a turn on my hard drive soon.
TWO YEARS LATER its still not entirely done. though the main story is complete they still have MOAR to add. this game was one of the few that's actually made me cry... this is fookin' awesome!
Update 0.8.1 came out a few days ago, they improved a few of the things you were talking about that bothered you and also added two new areas and a new temple. Also the game is on sale 15% off until october 10.
Fun fact: I got the idea with the improved movement physics after I watched this review. Essentially you know slip inwards when close to an edge instead of slipping outwards/falling down. Also thanks a lot for this awesome review! We're still working on the game, hoping to release it later this year (yes, march 2017 won't be enough time). I can fully understand if people want to wait for the game to be finished, it's also probably the best way to experience the final product. Still, we're very thankful for everybody playing the Early Access version and giving us feedback!
I love this game - spoilers: it also crushed me emotionally for awhile because hot-damn the story in this game is so fucking good. Like a JRPG classic of old.
Avalanche Reviews it's not about intuition since you can always rebind keys. but devs often make such crosshairs relative instead of absolute and that is the worst
This game does look incredible. I think I got this super cheap, either on sale or as part of a bundle - I don't think I paid the full $22 CDN. Haven't started it yet since there are so many games on the backlog but your video makes me want to.
yeah there was a bundle... i had it on my radar before that since i knew and was a fun of lachsens (one of the devs) initial game. Which is also referenced in the game on an picture on the ship. Anyways i too was off put by the price tag so to my shame i have to admit i brought the 2$ or so bundle in which the publisher throw it.
Great review my friend! Also glad to see an indie game that isn't a damn horror or survival game for once! I tend to forget other genres exist in the indie scene. This definitely has my attention, if only I had the funds! Will be a purchase somewhere down the line I make for sure :)
The game has frequently hit Steam sales for $16-$17, but I'm not expecting a major discount sale until after the official release. The bundle it was a part of was largely a mistake, owing to some developer-publisher miscommunication. Essentially: Deck13: Hey we're thinking about putting this game in a cheap bundle, how's that sound? RadicalFish: *misses email because they're busy developing amazing content* Deck13: Okay so we went ahead and did that. RadicalFish: Wait what just happened? I think short term this didn't do them many favors, since being included in a cheap bundle so early in development just carries this associative odor of shovelware. Long term though, it may turn out to be one of those things where some guy gets to say "see I told you this was a brilliant marketing idea", as those people who picked it up and promptly forgot about it, finally get around to it and think "wait, when did I download THIS gem?" Word of mouth is ultimately going to make or break CrossCode's mass-market success. The developers are a really small group and they don't really have anyone with marketing experience. Their publisher? From my limited perspective it's hard to see how much benefit RadicalFish has gotten out of that relationship versus just going solo, but I don't know all their circumstances. Regardless, if you like what you see, tell all your friends about this great game! It deserves far more praise and attention than it's been getting.
I noticed all your stats were very low during the gameplay. Was that on purpose? The main way to get stronger is through circuits, so why didn't you use them? The game will be filled with even more things once you use them
This is definitely not going to help my credibility, but I only learned about that, later into my playthrough and I didn't capture a lot of footage from my last few hours in the game. Not sure why it took me so long to even realize that menu option was there.
I shit you not, earlier today I was thinking that we've had plenty of 2D sidescrollers as of late but not very many 2D RPGs and now BOOM, we got this. In the small chance that this comes to a console then I'll definitely give this one a buy.
From what i hear, they are trying to get it on the WiiU. I've seen a lot of steam games make it onto ps3 and 4 too. Hopefully the full release does well enough to net them full console support.
PS4 and XBone versions have been confirmed, and since the game releases this week (thursday for most?), they'll probably start working on the port soon.
Same here, actually. I came across it cause a youtuber was a backer to the game. Whats funny is that he doesnt even play ARPGs that much. So i decided to check it out. And then i piqued friends interests to check it out.....And well...now im a backer XD. Its a freaking awesome game.
A lot of those chests made me feel stupid at how easy they were to get to after I spent hours upon hours traversing the same map trying to figure out "How the crap do I get up THERE?!" The game's technically completed now, but supposedly there's postgame content yet to come.
As soon as you said Seiken Densetsu you peaked my interests and I started to notice visually as well as combat wise some of the similarities. For me I am usually jaded from computer RPGs with the same usual pixel visual style. As I assume there isn't much to the gameplay. But man this actually looks interesting. Goes to show you can't judge a game by its initial coat of paint. The look of the puzzles give me a feeling of playing a Zelda game trying to figure out exactly what you need to do over trial and error. Usually I'm wary of early access games but if they have enough content to keep someone entertained for that many hours, you have sold me on the idea. As I was happy with the amount of content I got with Darkest Dungeon and Starbound.
I think there is quite a lot to the gameplay. Maybe not jaw-droppingly groundbreaking, but the ball-throwing mechanism that's used both for puzzles and combat is pretty clever and helps differentiate Cross Code from it's action RPG peers. The enemies (including epic boss battles) that come with their own interesting strategies and quirks also help. But what really makes the game shine even now in it's unfinished state is simply the level of love and detail put into it. The tons of sidequests and secrets and little allusions is far beyond other games of the kind.
Appologies if this has been brought up before, but this game looks like it plays very similar to last years Hyper Light Drifter (sans the art style). If i liked that game, what are the odds of liking Crosscode?
Its combat is fast paced and 2d, but cross code is a little more forgiving. I guess if you ever wanted Hyper Light Drifter to play more like an old action rpg, you'll love it. At its current price, I would say it's definitely worth a look, based on the similar combat to HLD.
Man how the hell are you so good at finding such good hidden gems that I seriously want to play? I am very into hidden gems and keep up with that word of mouth a lot and nobody finds hidden gems like you can! This game looks sooo awesome especially if the story is as good as you say. I don't do so well with super hard games but if the story is great it'll motivate me to keep trying especially if it's all fair! Also assuming the music in this video is music from the game, that sound is amazing! How does nobody talk about this game!?! Really hope it gets released on time! Btw are those "players" running around actual people you see or is it like a fake MMO type deal?
No, they're not actual people playing the game. that would fucking kick ass though! Thanks man btw. I'm not sure why, but I was bored as hell and installed this game, since I got it in a bundle, for next to nothing. It ended up being amazing! I think the hidden gems seem to find me, not the other way around.
Haha well I appreciate the work you put in to share these gems and make these awesome videos man. wtf does it take to get a super successful youtube channel in this bitch?
Wish I knew, but I figure if I keep moving at my current pace, I'll never get rich off of this, but maybe I can build up an audience that actually gets invested in my content, and I can avoid all the trolls and hate that comes with a big channel..........hopefully.
Do you have a patreon man? If not you really should and if so I would love to donate a buck a month with my broke ass lol I would just love for dudes like you and Super Derek to be able to make a stable living doing what you love because the quality of the content you create, work you put in and the enjoyment you give us viewers is easily deserving of that!
+ArtifiShuL Instinct man I've thought about, but I'm not sure I'm at that point yet. Don't get me wrong, I would love to make some real money off of this, but I really want to be able to give people something worth paying for, ya know?
.hack / Seiken Densetsu is a pretty good description, just from the footage and information you gave in the video. When I saw the intro with the gameplay, my immediate thought was that it reminded me of Secret of Mana with the camera zoomed out. Ahh, the story isn't complete yet? Hrmmm... I think that I would personally rather wait until there is a finished version of the story. I am one of those people that will often let a season of a TV show go by and marathon it, so I don't have to worry about waiting for the next episode to come out to get the story. :P Still, I will keep my eyes on this one! :)
Really looks like an amazing rpg and makes me wonder how this game didnt get as much attention as undertale like it looks like an even better version minus the furries
Hey I never buy early access games on principle. I tried the demo and I caved and bought it. This game is really great . Thank you for featuring it. I would not have seen or bought it otherwise.
No, I cover modern games too, from time to time. It's not often that a modern game gets me like this, so I don't feature a lot though. I think the fact that you thought it was a snes game, speaks volumes on how authentic the team was able to make it play and feel.
This is a classic? but it was released Sep 21, 2018? (steam) or at least some time this year. what is classic then? that aside, yeah this looks incredible. i'll eventually check this out!
It has been in development for over 4 years but I think this time the youtuber is showing something outside of what people may consider as 'mainstream' as this is an indie game. This video isn't meant to showcase Crosscode as a 'classic' game. But it does have element that arguably carries what makes games good, and many games share elements with each other, whether they are classic or not. And to boot, this game 'will' be considered a classic in the future, but still a hidden and underrated gem.
The biggest issue I have with this game is that combat breaks the background music -> this is why the original Secret of Mana was SO GOOD is that the combat was so ambient and immersive in the environments. I found myself actively avoiding combat in Crosscode simply because it was so segmented. Got 50 hours in on the finished game so far. The other thing is that the rewards for traversing the level design . It's an amazing game. Also as a video game music afficianado (I actually transcribe video game music to piano) I didn't find this game's soundtrack THAT amazing. It has some standout tracks but several rather dull ones as well, balances out to about a B grade which compared with FF/Suikoden/Octopath which were A+ soundtracks just felt a bit lacking. It's a shame the devs didn't seem to promote it or it would have gotten more attention - def should have been nominated for best RPG last year
Dull ones? Man, every soundtrack is great, of course there are gems with s rank but overall it doesn't dissapoint that much But anyways is soo cool that you like the game for the same reasons i like
i can definitely agree with every point in this video; crosscode is wonderful. i saw a review of it before and i decided to pick it up recently. it compet- no, took over my favorite game (borderlands 2) in terms of enjoyment i got, and blew it away in how good the story is (yeah a looter shooter doesn't really have a great story but i considered it my favorite story before). also, as it's out completely now, i'd love to see the opinion and experience of the early birds of it. i'm literally craving more crosscode while on vacation now, but reading the experience of others should hopefully quench it. (yes this vid is 2 years old, but I don't care much)
I got to meet the developers a few years ago during SXSW and they were great and got to play a demo they were showing off a few days after the event. Definitely a game to check out and be on the lookout for. i think it's coming to Wii U as well, but I don't know if that's still true.
I really like the look of this game. The visuals are great. And the combat system looks fun. I'm going to have to keep my eyes open for the completed release of this game.
Looks interesting. When i first started watching the video i was gonna say the frame rate looks like its almost too smooth, kinda damaging that SVGA retro aesthetic the game has, but i guess it kinda needs to be that high for the combat. That aiming system almost looks like the game was designed for mouse and keyboard. Its good you can play with a controller though. Looks interesting, hopefully i can check it out when the full release comes out.
I'll be honest I wrote most of this before I found out it was in early access. I was just writing about my experiences and playing the game, then booom! It told me that was the end of the current build. I knew I loved it, so I figured every once and a while I could put something like this on the show. I don't typically like early access games, so I wouldn't worry about seeing too many more show up...................Unless they're this good!
I'm glad you put it in. I'd not have heard of the game otherwise. I may wait for it to be completed before I get it. Still, I say new segment: Future Classics!
That could work! As for waiting for it to come out, I can't blame you. I would not have bought it, had I have known it was early access. Luckily it came in a bundle, and i installed it when i was bored.
CrossCode seems to be at the tipping point where the engine is streamlined enough for the artists to just pump artwork into the game. The primary bottleneck, and this comes to no surprise, is the writing. We can only guess how many narratives have been drafted and scrapped since this video was posted while we wait for a continuation of the story, but anyone of the designers could decide to add a special attack (the last update blog has a dozen or so) without any help from the programmers.
Actually the programmer did all of the special attacks - that was me. :P It's our decision to continue the story later, since we want to release most of the story towards the end. That way the players won't reach cliff hangers and have to wait a long time for the conclusion. We now have most of the dungeons fully implemented and soon reach the point where there is nothing left to do other than to continue the story. And then we hope to finish that part (and the full game) until June-September 2017. It's a bit hard to tell if we'll make it because the workload for the story is very difficult to estimate.
We do, but it's still something I do myself, being one of the two people working full-time. Most programming has been done, so it's all about creating content now.
I'm currently working with an amateur development team in a project class at my college. We have no content pipelines whatsoever and we are presenting our alpha this week... We are making a tower defense building our own engine around a wrapper over OpenGLwhich just restricts functionality of the API; we have to do our own lighting if we wanted lighting. Also, we are doing everything entirely in C90 We are being taught how to build things modularly even though we have trouble sticking to that. I found an example where a tower's projectile code would call the function on the creep to kill it if it was dead.
I backed this on Indiegogo already so I *could* play the early access code but I don't out of principle since I prefer my games good and done thankyouverymuch. So while this was an unexpected and positive surprise to you it has been a long and tedious wait for me. Glad to hear that it's turning out to be a good game though.
I'm usually in the same boat with you, but I had no idea it was in early access when I started it. Now, I need to figure out if I'll be playing all the new updates, or wait till the full release.
It's a great game so far, still not done though... Once you get to the desert (major zone 3) the side-quests just peter out. I want to do dungeon #3 & #4 but I feel like I need to wait for the rest of the content rather than just grinding up to dungeons and skipping over everything that is yet to come.
+Chris D that's where I put it down too. I think I'm going to wait till the actual release, to get back into it. Honestly, I might just start a new game. I loved the beginning.
Yeah, I guess it depend on when the rest drops/how much comes out this next release, if I will go back to the beginning or not. I'm definitely more of a completionist than a multiple playthrough kinda guy generally. I have a tendency to do every little thing in a game and then loose interest when my character reaches peak power and the game turns easy (usually before the plot resolves)...but this game is so much about the challenge from the puzzles to the boss fights it definitely has that old school difficultly about it (definitely reminds me of Zelda more than anything) and I'm certainly going to complete it once it's complete-able.
Thanks for the review :-) The cool thing about the story /setting for me that nobody seems to mention is that it's not just an MMO. That has been done to death by now imho with the likes of .hack or Sword Art Online. No, what I love about Cross Code is that it's more a mixture between those and James Cameron's movie Avatar, because the world is real! The plot plays out on an actual planet the players are remotely connected to. Never heard of anyone trying such a combination before. It's novel and inventive, at least in the area of RPGs. I don't like stories with the concept that the main setting is only a simulation. That seems like a downgrade for me, the events aren't as important anymore. On the other hand, I love the tropes and terms of playing videogames and the dialogue surrounding it. With Cross Code, you get the best of both worlds: Exploring another planet while at the same time being able to listen to Emilie's nerdy talk, for example. It's genius :D
Yes! I love how they can't even break the 4th wall! Just hearing people discuss game mechanics, in the game, was so damn cool. The whole world just took me by surprise.
It is out now, so if you haven’t yet, and wanted to but just forgot, here’s a reminder to check it out. I like it a lot. The most I’ve ever been emotionally invested in a game’s plot I think.
Avalanche Reviews Not at all, no. I mean, after the next update (to be released this month if everything goes smooth) everything that they would need to do is endgame content (And post-game, but maybe that will be after 1.0, dunno their plans on that)
Well this is an interesting game It looks great and I'll have to take a look at this one I like the fact that your a char in an MMO it made me think of sword art online and .hack. and it looks almost snes like so thats really cool.
Ehh... I absolutely love CrossCode, and it has an amazing story, but I don't know if it's better than Undertale... Undertale was a deeply touching game, which, as of yet, CrossCode has not become. The story is still in quite early stages of the game, and I'm assuming the emotional rollercoaster will begin at a later point (if there even is one, which I seriously hope there is). And I've been waiting for the game about 4-5 years to be finished :p
the two games often get compared/ mentioned in the same sentence^^ Since both draw from Zelda/Secret of Mana. If you decide to buy it i would switch to the frontline branch on steam.
I was ready to call this game a classic, 20 min in. I don't know, this game just hit me like a ton of bricks. I just had to give as big of a shout out as I can.
Avalanche Reviews man I was so disappointed when I saw that it was early access. I kinda want it now but I'm not sure if it isn't a mistake to play it now when its not completle :/
There is a good 15-20 hours of content so far. It turns out, the game is coming out in the beginning of 2017, so not too long of a wait if you want to tuff it out.
Ha back when the release was March 2017. The game being fully released September 2018, still isn't complete. A lot of the subplots and side quest chains remained open without proper conclusions to them. Its like the devs just forgot about that when polishing up the inner mechanics for release.
Woah, thanks for that great... review I guess?
It's always lovely when I see people notice the details we put in the game! We're really gald you're surprised so positively about the game, so yeah.... just thanks! :D :D

I recently started a new game, and I'm being reminded of how great it is, every second. Such a killer action rpg.
Anyone know how to get the game running as smoothly and high FPS as you see here? It's slow AF on my MacBook, but could be faster on my PC
There's an option for sprite size in the video settings area. Maybe lowering that to 1, will help out?
Avalanche Reviews yeah i tried and it didn’t help, shorty MacBook methinks

definetly try it out imo but i can understand if you don't want to spoil the game for yourself and such.
+Giovann Hernandez It's a tough decision to make, that's for sure.

Hey man the full release of this game is finally coming out in two days~ September 20!
Looks like Secret of Mana and Sword Art Online had a baby, and this was born.
You hit the nail on the head! That's exactly what it's like.
What`s the name of the song played in the end of the video?
This game is just amazing, never had such a good time playing a video game before.
Nice review by the way.

Now that the full game has been released on consoles, I hope you give it another review!
nice review! I'm definitely gonna check this out.
nice!
This game looks fantastic.. The puzzles really look like fun.
It's so damn coooool. I usually don't give a shit about puzzles, but these ones had me going!
ITS RELEASED

I already started a new game to celebrate. Still one of the best action rpgs I've ever played!
What's that game on the right on psp during the end credits?

On sale rn. Picked it up after seeing this review like 9 years ago.
Hope you remind us about it when it finally comes out completed
I will be playing the shit out of it on launch, so rest assured, I'll have some more to say about it.

I love this game - spoilers: it also crushed me emotionally for awhile because hot-damn the story in this game is so fucking good. Like a JRPG classic of old.
please tell me that crosshair is controlled with the mouse
You sure as shit can control it with a mouse. Keyboard controls are pretty intuitive too.
Avalanche Reviews
it's not about intuition since you can always rebind keys. but devs often make such crosshairs relative instead of absolute and that is the worst
Luckily that's not the case here.
This game does look incredible. I think I got this super cheap, either on sale or as part of a bundle - I don't think I paid the full $22 CDN. Haven't started it yet since there are so many games on the backlog but your video makes me want to.

how much of the story is ready. since the game is early access?
They seem to be somewhere around the 70 percent mark, as far as story goes. I'm actually waiting for the full release of the game, to jump back in.
they say it will be release sept 22 or something. hope it is true.
Great review my friend! Also glad to see an indie game that isn't a damn horror or survival game for once! I tend to forget other genres exist in the indie scene. This definitely has my attention, if only I had the funds! Will be a purchase somewhere down the line I make for sure :)
I was lucky and got it in a bundles for like 7 bucks. Keep an eye out, and I'm sure you can get it for way less than 20.
The game has frequently hit Steam sales for $16-$17, but I'm not expecting a major discount sale until after the official release. The bundle it was a part of was largely a mistake, owing to some developer-publisher miscommunication. Essentially:
Deck13: Hey we're thinking about putting this game in a cheap bundle, how's that sound?
RadicalFish: *misses email because they're busy developing amazing content*
Deck13: Okay so we went ahead and did that.
RadicalFish: Wait what just happened?
I think short term this didn't do them many favors, since being included in a cheap bundle so early in development just carries this associative odor of shovelware. Long term though, it may turn out to be one of those things where some guy gets to say "see I told you this was a brilliant marketing idea", as those people who picked it up and promptly forgot about it, finally get around to it and think "wait, when did I download THIS gem?"
Word of mouth is ultimately going to make or break CrossCode's mass-market success.
Ooh, nice art style. I'm waiting for some one to make a PC-98 styled indie game
I could get behind something like that!
Not sure why it took me so long to even realize that menu option was there.
i'm surprised you didn't see it either lol. And don't worry, your credibility is safe with me!
I will never not be envious***** of those forearms though.
Also, that Alundra-drop. Muh nigga.
Gotta get that ps1 rpg cred. I may be rich with youtube revenue, but I remember where I came from.
gid ripd
You had me at "dot hack"
That's how they sold me
I shit you not, earlier today I was thinking that we've had plenty of 2D sidescrollers as of late but not very many 2D RPGs and now BOOM, we got this. In the small chance that this comes to a console then I'll definitely give this one a buy.
From what i hear, they are trying to get it on the WiiU. I've seen a lot of steam games make it onto ps3 and 4 too. Hopefully the full release does well enough to net them full console support.
+Avalanche Reviews that would be rad as hell.
PS4 and XBone versions have been confirmed, and since the game releases this week (thursday for most?), they'll probably start working on the port soon.
Randomly came across the demo of CrossCode on Steam in July, and really enjoyed it. I'm definitely looking forward to when the fully game is released.
Based on my comment section, every one kind of randomly came across this game.
Same here, actually. I came across it cause a youtuber was a backer to the game. Whats funny is that he doesnt even play ARPGs that much. So i decided to check it out. And then i piqued friends interests to check it out.....And well...now im a backer XD. Its a freaking awesome game.
Been following this game for a while. It's gonna be a day one buy once it's finished! Thanks for the awesome review!
Absolutely! They made a fan out of me, like 10 minutes into the game.
I absolutely agree with this^ Spot fucking on.
I really want this game to come over on consoles
I bought this title after watching your review for the game! It's pretty damn good, thank you for this!
That's probably the best compliment you could have given me.
Avalanche Reviews
Thank you! Subbed to you as well
Much appreciated.
This game seems to have a lot of heart. Definitely gonna keep an eye on this. Thx for the video!
.hack / Seiken Densetsu is a pretty good description, just from the footage and information you gave in the video. :)
Nothing wrong with that. I probably would have made the same choice, if I would have known it was early access before I installed it.
Puzzles are def up there with Alundra
This game looks siiiiiick. I like the idea of those being a work in progress, it already seems pretty awesome.
I blew me away from the start! Definitely worth keeping an eye on.
Really looks like an amazing rpg and makes me wonder how this game didnt get as much attention as undertale like it looks like an even better version minus the furries
Well fucking said. I had the same exact question in my head.
agreed (and i say this as an undertale admirer- hell i have flowey as my steam PP)
also, what do you mean by furries?
Hey I never buy early access games on principle. I tried the demo and I caved and bought it. This game is really great . Thank you for featuring it. I would not have seen or bought it otherwise.
That's awesome! I love it when I can get someone into a kick ass game!
It's a damn shame this game is so underrated. Gem of a game.
Looks great... but I thought trashed classics were old games.
I was thinking it was like an snes game until you mentioned it's not released til 2017.
It's been in early access for 3 years. Only released 1.0 earlier this year.
It was written somwhere that CC was in development for 7 years actualy.
It's a shame the devs didn't seem to promote it or it would have gotten more attention - def should have been nominated for best RPG last year
Dull ones?
Man, every soundtrack is great, of course there are gems with s rank but overall it doesn't dissapoint that much
But anyways is soo cool that you like the game for the same reasons i like
You are one of the best! Keep doing vids I really enjoy them ^^
Thanks! I will!
i can definitely agree with every point in this video; crosscode is wonderful. i saw a review of it before and i decided to pick it up recently. it compet- no, took over my favorite game (borderlands 2) in terms of enjoyment i got, and blew it away in how good the story is (yeah a looter shooter doesn't really have a great story but i considered it my favorite story before).
also, as it's out completely now, i'd love to see the opinion and experience of the early birds of it. i'm literally craving more crosscode while on vacation now, but reading the experience of others should hopefully quench it. (yes this vid is 2 years old, but I don't care much)
Hey, nothing wrong with commenting on an old video. Glad to see i wasn't the only one who loved it!
@@AvalancheReviews oh, i left that there for those who don't think that (asking a question on an old video i mean). also, how's the experience?
This. I need this game in my life
You do!!!
I got to meet the developers a few years ago during SXSW and they were great and got to play a demo they were showing off a few days after the event. Definitely a game to check out and be on the lookout for. i think it's coming to Wii U as well, but I don't know if that's still true.
I feel like this bad boy is going to blow up! I hope it gets on as many platforms as humanly possible. These guys crafted a damn fine action rpg!
I really like the look of this game. The visuals are great. And the combat system looks fun. I'm going to have to keep my eyes open for the completed release of this game.
TortureVision they are planning a full release around september of this year
Looks interesting.
You can use a keyboard and mouse, and for an ARPG, it feels pretty good. Ooooooo you gotta love that 60fps, pixel beauty.
Def need to be able to pick your class (5 classes in game) and get rid of the battle music
Damn dude. Another cool ass game I was unaware of. I immediately thought of some Alundra. Damn dude.
i don't know why, but kick ass, unheard of games just seem to find me.
Looks interesting, but does this really fall into the trashed classic category? Perhaps it's time to create a new category: Future Classic?
Haven't played the game yet but the music is probably up there with Xenogears, impressive!
No joke, every song was perfect.
this game looks so good can't wait to give this a hit :) great video
Thanks!!!
2 years later...
Looks really polished. I'd been impressed watching this I development here and there. This review has convinced me to pick it up on steam!
Nice! I think you'll love it.
I keep hearing about new dungeons and areas, but I'm wanting to just wait for it to be finished, before I jump back in.
Actually the programmer did all of the special attacks - that was me. :P
It's our decision to continue the story later, since we want to release most of the story towards the end.
Oh, so you don't already have an editor for these kinds of things? Job security ;)
Also, we are doing everything entirely in C90
We are being taught how to build things modularly even though we have trouble sticking to that. I found an example where a tower's projectile code would call the function on the creep to kill it if it was dead.
I love this game, i can also play it on my chromebook!
That's awesome!
which point?
- me loving this game
- me playing this game on my chromebook
Both!
Ohhh. ok.
posted a tutorial on crosscode forum
You've got a great voice for commentary
Thanks! I sometimes over criticize how I sound in these videos, but it's awesome to hear they're coming out ok.
Same here
Thanks for the review :-)
The cool thing about the story /setting for me that nobody seems to mention is that it's not just an MMO.
Emilie is one of the best sidekicks in gaming,
This. Just This. All of this! :D
Every bit of it.
This game looks awesome! I wish it was on PS4
The PS4 controller would feel perfect for this game! Let's hope it does well enough to get ported.
Great vid but 20 bucks for early access? I'll wait thanks.
There's nothing wrong with that. I would be on the same boat, if I hadn't have started it up without knowing it was early access.
It is out now, so if you haven’t yet, and wanted to but just forgot, here’s a reminder to check it out.
I like it a lot. The most I’ve ever been emotionally invested in a game’s plot I think.
Damn, this looks so fucking cool.
It's the coolest!
I am not sure you can call it a classic when it has yet to properly release. Also character looked much better in Bahamut Lagoon.
The puzzles can be bullshit sometimes... Who do they think I am? The Flash? There are way too many timed puzzles!
March 2017? HAHHAHAHHAHAHA Don't make me laugh.
The build I played only had a few timed puzzles, but I haven't played since then.
It legit such because it's just fetch quest the game
march 2017? The year is 2017, but they didnt say March... the actual date is First Quarter of 2017.
That's the first entry when I googled "crosscode release date"
Avalanche Reviews Oh, wierd... But no, is not march, is the first quarter of the year.
Nice! That's not too far away at all.
Avalanche Reviews Not at all, no.
I mean, after the next update (to be released this month if everything goes smooth) everything that they would need to do is endgame content (And post-game, but maybe that will be after 1.0, dunno their plans on that)
I'm debating on weather I want to play the next update, or wait for the whole thing to get finished.
One... More... Week...
Hey! This is coming to Switch, hopefully more people will be exposed to this certified TRASHED CLASSIC! (sure I will) :D
nice man game looks cool.
It's soooo damn cool
better than pizza pop!?
Nothing's better than pizza pop
good god why havent i played this one yet?!?! oh yeah please do that breath of fire 4 episode
+Smiauu now that I can record my framemeister, I will definitely get around to making a video on breath of fire 4.
Well this is an interesting game It looks great and I'll have to take a look at this one I like the fact that your a char in an MMO it made me think of sword art online and .hack. and it looks almost snes like so thats really cool.
It feels exactly like that. Plus, there's just soooo much content, I thought it was made by a big, established studio.
IM WAITING FOR THIS GAME ABOUT A YEAR AND IS STILL NOT FINISHED ;-; (awsome style gameplay story better even than undertale )
It absolutely is!
Secrets of grindea when ;)
It looks cool. I'll have to try it out. I', always up for a good indie rpg.
the two games often get compared/ mentioned in the same sentence^^
Since both draw from Zelda/Secret of Mana.
If you decide to buy it i would switch to the frontline branch on steam.
so had a look yet? there also is a demo for it.
I was JUST going to mention, this game seems very .Hack-ish but you beat me to it.
It really does have that feel. I love it!
EPIC!!!!!!
View # 201, my area code is 201
very nice
It's all connected
Keep up the great work man
+The Shroud I will definitely try
but if the game isn't complete how can it be a classic? xD
I was ready to call this game a classic, 20 min in. I don't know, this game just hit me like a ton of bricks. I just had to give as big of a shout out as I can.
Avalanche Reviews
man I was so disappointed when I saw that it was early access. I kinda want it now but I'm not sure if it isn't a mistake to play it now when its not completle :/
There is a good 15-20 hours of content so far. It turns out, the game is coming out in the beginning of 2017, so not too long of a wait if you want to tuff it out.
It is really fair to call a game that hasn't officially reached its release build a "classic"?
Well, you got a point...but
At least is a classic nowadays!
@@panuru9175 sure!
You just never know before a release. Games like Owlboy looked liked that, but that ended up just being a pretty face.
Ha back when the release was March 2017. The game being fully released September 2018, still isn't complete. A lot of the subplots and side quest chains remained open without proper conclusions to them. Its like the devs just forgot about that when polishing up the inner mechanics for release.
