- This video shows you how to remove the heatsink and fans for future cleaning and repasting/repadding of a 2023 Lenovo LOQ gaming laptop.
How to open bottom cover/teardown: • Lenovo LOQ 2023 Teardo...
This design is a big disadvantage. If after 3-4 years you need to replace one faulty fan then the whole thing will be replaced.
I think this is just Lenovo's strategy to get users to buy new laptops
@zansabilhudaianggara1652 yes, discouraging repair
no need. you can unscrew the small screws on the fan, and the bottom frame with the fan will come out. only the top frame is bonded together with the heatpipes..
@@kimberly_lippington It this true? Have you done this before or know a video of this? Thank you kind stranger, I was really torn on buying this laptop because this is a dealbreaker for me.

this is legion 5 pro, but i opened my LOQ to change SSD, and I can confirm there are small screws on the fans to open up them, just like Legion 5 pro
How difficult would it be to replace the fans? Mine make a slight noise at 30% fan speed.
Hi. The other comment here is correct. After unplugging the battery you should also press the power button to completely flush out any residual electricity. Also, you 100% need to repaste your CPU AND GPU, because when you removed and placed back the heatpipes you essentially introduced a lot of air bubbles into the paste, severely reducing it's heat conductivity.
Not really. It doesn't affect performance much, that's a load of bullocks. You can test it yourself and take the heatsink off and put it back on, temps are the same. It's just a dumb myth like "you used too much thermal paste" you cant actually use too much cause its just squished out to the sides by the mounting pressure and its none conductive so if you dont care about the mess it makes, it does no damage and does not reduce performance. You can however use too little.
Can you change the fan only?
Step 1 Use gloves and Step 2 important to Disconnect battery ....
I have this laptop. Was thermal paste or liquid metal used?
Hey i just want to confirm, did you really measure the thickness of the pads?
Does it have phase change compound on the CPU and GPU?
Si los ventiladores le fallan hechenle WD 40 o algo para lubricar me funciono re bien ya no hace ruido
Hola amigo, ¿cómo hiciste esto? no puedo quitar el ventilador
Need reply please, i consider to buy this laptop, so i wanna know, is it posible for me to remove the fan without removing the heatsink?
I don't believe it's possible to remove the fans without removing the heatsink. It looks like you would need to remove the heatsink, turn it upside down, before you can undo the power cables.
It's a big disadvantage. If after 3-4 years you need to replace one faulty fan then the whole thing will be replaced.
Do LOQ uses honeywell PTM7958 thermal pads like the legions?
It should its not like the ptm is thermal metal or expensive
@@c0r5edepends on the manufacturer sometimes they do sometimes they don’t that why you never see same temps for loqs. if you bought a prebuild model that one has more chances to have ptm. in my loq they used normal paste sadly
where is the void warranty sticker ?
There were none.
So basically we can add more gpu memory since there is a extra slot
No, not GPU vram. They are soldered to the motherboard.
did replacing the thermal paste decrease temps ? any advantage over stock paste ?
No benefits. I think it only helps after a few years of usage once the original paste has dried out.
What's the heatsink made of ? I mean is it Aluminium or Copper heatsink ?
I think it was copper but not 100% sure.
Is the lego separator a must?
No :P
I just happen to have a bunch of them laying around and they seem to work. You can use any thin and study piece of plastic.
The right fan is bad making my laptop vibrate. Do I have to replace the entire thermal module or do the fans just pop out too? Thank you for the vid.
I believe you can pop the fans out. I saw screws for those but I didn't try to open them.
@@ComputerizedCanada Hi friend, can you make a video of this then? I've tried everything and I can't open it
Great Video!
I have a question.
Is the pre-installed 8 GB ram enough if I DO NOT do any gaming?
I will probably mostly use Microsoft word, browse on chrome (simultaneously opening at least 15-20 tabs at a time) and running some software (Stata, Adobe Photoshop, low-key light video editing etc). watch UA-cam and some movies, play videos
N.B. I have just ordered the one with 8 GB RAM version. Waiting for it to get delivered now. But still beinga college student, I can't afford to buy extra ram at the moment. Maybe will buy extra ram a few months or a year later. Hence asking
Hey! I know it's a month late but I also have the same laptop as this, though if you don't do anything heavy like heavy editing or even programming, I am sure 8gb should be enough (but you might feels a bit of lagging maybe).
But if you could I would still recommend adding another 8gb ram ddr5 because the difference is huge.
Also try adding another ssd of instead of relying on the pre-installed ssd from purchase. That would help too and relocate your top priority or heavy duty software on that better ssd too.
