or you can simply press the wireless button on your printer, the lines will start glowing one-by-one indicating that a hotspot is created. Then simply open your phones's wifi and connect to hp wireless and START PRINTING.
NO NEED OF ANY ROUTER OR MODEM
But you cannot use internet in that mode.

Did you try the wifi Direct method?
this has got WIFI DIRECT however in 3636 deskjet model we have WIRELESS DIRECT PRINTING ..so both works in same way or not? like i dont need a network to connect and print? only turning wifi button on device and printer will suffice? please do clarify.

I used WPS to connect the printer to network.

Where in printer display or in mobile? In mobile if it is showing - sign as greyed out, it means 'not connected'. Check both are in same connection.
