    Your installer described the DC coupling really well, I now understand it! Cheers

    I've just discovered your channel, it dropped as a youtube recommend, a good recommendation as I am researching solar to get a better understanding of how it works.
    I too will be embarking on my new home journey, I'm currently in temporary accommodation awaiting to complete so I'm keeping busy, and trying to maintain excitement by forward planning. It is a newbuild which already has a solar system installed so I'm keen to hit the ground running by researching and learning about how it all works.
    There is no battery but it is something that I am considering doing a a later date.
    I have found your video interesting and informative, delivered in a non egotistical and relaxed fashion, so I have subscribed and I'm looking forward to catching up with your videos, no just the solar but your DIY stuff too.
    A question about this video... it mentions "clipping" when the panels produce more than the inverter which in your setup is sent to the battery, so what happens if you don't have a battery to store it in?

      Thankyou for your kind works, Im really pleased you’ve found it useful.
      By clipping, with no battery the power in the easiest way to describe just “dissolves” and disappears.

    Don’t know how available they are in your area, but a fire extinguisher ball might be perfect near your solar set up in the garage. They’re designed to go off if there is a fire (without a human operator).

      We have installed a smoke alarm initially, and believe the battery may an extinguisher build in. Will have a look at the balls though

    Hi, very interesting. Have a very similar system installed and considering adding more panels. Are your 20 panels on 1 string or 2 separate strings?

    • @DIYJourney1
      @DIYJourney1  Рік тому +1

      Hi, thankyou, ours is 2x strings, I believe thats mainly due to the cable route

      @@DIYJourney1 It will be because the two strings are facing different directions.

    Great talk through guys! Couple of questions. If you're not planning on exporting to the grid, was there any benefit in grid tieing at all? If you don't grid tie do you have to still get DNO approval once you go bigger than 3.6kw on the inverter? Seems logical to stay clear of the grid and use it as a reserve power source, then size your inverter and batteries accordingly to maximise your 8kw array?!? I appreciate your DC coupling theory but am I right in saying the car chargers are predominantly taking AC and transforming to DC for domestic use?

    • @DIYJourney1
      @DIYJourney1  Рік тому

      There will always be time when the battery is full, the car is not home or is fully charged and we are out, at those times when I cant do anything else with it, id rather export than waste it. Such as a recent holiday we had, 270kwh was exported helping cover the cost of the small amount if grid use and the standing charge. Regardless of grid I would still choose the size inverter to your max powered appliance in my instance the car charger. What I am finding it, the max I can charge is 5kwh and if I want to charge at max the full 7kwh I then have to buy in 2 kwh at 38p/kwh gets expensive quick. But with 5kwh in the car zero from the grid, at least I can still utilise any additional over that to go in the battery to support the rest of the house at times when its needed. A battery in experience is an absolute must

    Great video and system.👌 What other brands of integrated systems like this you've considered? Thanks

    • @DIYJourney1
      @DIYJourney1  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you, I was pretty limited as I wanted the solaredge, but did look at Givenergy, or not integrating, such as using an Alpha battery AC coupled rather than DC Coupled like the solaredge is

    • @VideoEngineering

      @@DIYJourney1 what are the main advantages and disadvantages of DC coupled system?

    • @DIYJourney1
      @DIYJourney1  2 роки тому +1

      Its explained probably clearer in my solar installation video prior to this one.
      But basically if for e.g, my car is on charge maxing the inverter at 5kwh, but my panels are producing 7kwh, it allows that extra 2 kwh to be put in the battery rather than just dissipated and wasted

      The cost video has been filmed, Im just doing a fact check on it to make sure its all correct. So hopefully be live very soon.

    How often do you need to replace the battery?

    • @DIYJourney1
      @DIYJourney1  2 роки тому

      Not sure, its only been installed 2 weeks.
      Id hope never, but based in stats I think at least 10 years maybe reasonable.
