@@oddassembler you're right but also i would say that setting the right tone would allow us to change the status quo gradually over years. the system isn't going to radically change overnight unless the whole thing collapses and we have to rebuild. slow gradual change is the best we can expect from the status quo we have built.

Not really, I'm sorry - registering to vote is stupid. it's an artificial obstacle to democracy, which doesn't exist in most countries. notice it's always the right who defends it, alongside every measure that makes voting harder, because they know they don't have the majority of citizens on their side and will have less and less with every new generation.
Registering to vote should be abolished, there are better arguments to defend gun registration - for one, you are not likely to have your brains splattered when your neighbor exercises their right to vote
Voting is a societal function and the Founding Fathers did not clearly define who can and cannot have the right to vote when they wrote the Constitution. The 2nd Amendment however is an individual liberty we are born with and is clearly spelled out in our Bill of Rights. Maybe you people should learn to think for yourselves instead of listening to some comedian without a clue.
voting isn't a right. if it was a right you wouldn't have to be a citizen to do it. if i tried to vote in a US presidential election i'd be arrested and fined, possibly imprisoned.

@@s.d.6252 perhaps you should learn what a fundamental human right is, and that the Constitution does not grant rights, it protects them. Voting is a fundamental human right in any democracy. The unenumerated rights clause (9th Amendment) of the Constitution specifies that any other fundamental right that is not guaranteed by the states or explicitly guaranteed in the text of the Constitution shall still be guaranteed by the Constitution. Basically, listing of specific rights in the Constitution does not mean that people don’t have additional rights that weren’t spelled out. And while it wasn’t explicitly spelled out who could and could not vote at origination, Amendments 15, 19, 24 and 26 have explicitly laid out who can vote by guaranteeing the right to vote for African Americans, women, and anyone 18 and older.
And before you start on the “we are a constitutional republic, not a democracy” line, I’m going to head that off with the fact that ALL constitutional republics are administered by democratic process, therefore making them a form of democracy. The difference is we are not a direct democracy, we are a representative democracy in the form of a constitutional republic. This is just playing at semantics.

I always respond to those against a national registry for guns with a list of everything in their lives that they register: Their birth, their marriage, their kids, their house, their car, themselves, their boat. And then laugh in my head as they look at me dumbfoundedly.
Add to that any insurances they have, any licenses like selling that insurance, doing hair/nails, selling food/beverages at a business, etc.
Which of those is clearly outlined in the Constitution? I'd be more than happy to have the government out of all of the things you listed.

I believe there are federal laws concerning needing a social security number to use federal insurance programs like Social security and Medicare. I'm sure there is a Immigration law that requires employees to have social security numbers. Of course, we all know how easy it is to overlook those laws. Most of the others are to show ownership and/as a revenue generator for local governments.
Do you know that there is nothing in the constitution concerning marriage? Nothing codifying it or identifying it. Or prohibiting any form of marriage.
@@catherinewilliams9680 The second amendment clearly outlines that the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Social Security is a product of government over reach. Laws and such as you have stated are a product of government over reach. Theoretically, the Constitution clearly outlines what the duties of the Federal Government are. None of what you mention are there.

If registering to vote doesn't infringe upon your ability to vote? Explain to me how registering your two dozen semi automatic rifles infringes upon your right to bear arms? If anything registering your firearms will make it easier to retrieve it in the event it's stolen.
No amendment is absolute. Every amendment was written in such a manner that allows for societal changes of attitudes towards each right. Their wording also allows for exceptions.
We've had the 1st amendment since day one, with its protections of the press. But, in 1917, congress passed the Espionage act and SCOTUS upheld it and now agents of the 4th estate can be tried for espionage.

Gun registries! Been saying this for like 5 years now. The problem with an assault weapons ban (which is indeed a step in the right direction and which I do support when it comes up) is that gun manufacturers will find ways around it. "Assault weapon" isn't really a well-defined term; so whatever criteria the law specifies for a banned weapon, they'll just tweak their designs accordingly. Gun registries are the better way to do this. You need a license to drive a car, you should need one to shoot a gun.

I hate seeing factual inaccuracies in trailers., it tells you the entire thing is BS and is just meant for comedy, while pretending to be an open discussion. Loisana is a Democrat Run state And is one of the highest gun deaths per capita in the US. So it's not all Republican like the trailer claims. A video just came out today of a guy on video casualty executing a homeless man in the street in broad dailight in loisiana. And when you look at death rates per city democrat cities top many of the charts with Baltimore, New Orleans, Detroit, four of the top 5 cities for gun deaths in US are Democrat run. Saying the gun problem can be divided along party lines is ludicrous.
Louisiana has a Democratic Governor, true, but it is nearly a Republican supermajority in the house (off by a single vote to override the Governor's veto by a party-line vote). To call that a "Democrat Run state" is more than a little bit of a stretch, lol.

If you bring up some of the GoP cities that have clear gun problems I will agree with you because they both have problems.
And you dialogue is exactly why the gun problems will never be fixed. No one wants to come to the center or ever admit that their side has problems, because niether side has a solid solution.

The broken media could be regulated though much like in EU countries, there the media cannot publish anything they cannot prove in a court of law, and the US could do something about tightening the definition of what speech encourages violence. As that is something everyone is accused of these days without ever meeting the legal definition.
