Today I used your recipe and made the potato bread. Oh my!!!! Words do not describe how delicious. I thought the bread and rolls I make was good, but it cannot hold a light . Thank you for sharing. Prayers ❤
@@crystalfields6067 Thank you for sharing. I’m glad you like it.
I live in an apartment and I really like it. Before this apartment, I lived in an over 50 apartment complex. I didn’t like it because a lot of people there were one step away from a nursing home. Smoking outside constantly despite health issues, some in wheelchairs or walkers, dying or ill. It was too depressing. So many died while I was there. I like the variety of all ages here. No children running around, very peaceful. Thank you for your bread recipe.
Thank you for your comment. I feel the same way. The laughter of children makes my heart happy.
Oh yes, by all means move close to family. I did the same thing when the grandchildren were small. I treasure the time I got to spend with them!
Thanks for your input.
You have the cleanest stove
Thanks.
Hi, Carolyn! I found your channel today and spent a happy afternoon binge-watching. I am a retired nurse, and I am grateful for each and every day that I am able to wake up and look forward to doing the things I love, such as quilting, crochet, cooking, and embroidery. I also enjoy gardening and preserving food. You are truly an inspiration! Have a wonderful Birthday!
Thank you for joining.
Hi Carolyn, I'm so glad you started this channel :) I'm fully retired since 2024, living in the Pacific Northwest near my daughter. I enjoy your cooking ideas, your hobbies, and your goal of creating a community. I live alone and currently own my mobile home, but I rent the land it's on in a lovely park. I can relate to your situation where big decisions face us. I moved here from Kansas in 2015. A close friend of mine gave me some good advice: "Enjoy making all the decisions that lie ahead". This would never occur to me. I can't ever have enough information to make a good decision, I say to myself. So, she set me on the right path. My mother lived in an over 55 apartment complex and had a wonderful life there, but I would miss my container garden :)
Thank you. This is a journey and constantly changing. We will see what 2025 brings. Thanks for joining.
I sold a large home and moved to a small apartment, it was a very good decision and I am very content. Never fear change when the Lord is in it. ❤
Thank you. I’m praying constantly and I’ve moved every 4 years. when I moved to this senior community I planned to never move again. But as I say, nothing stays the same very long, and this is a totally unexpected bump in the road.
Move near your family! It will be a blessing and a safety zone.
Your home situation is happening to a lot of senior, myself included. I live in a condo, but because of all of the increases in ins, HOA fees, assessment fees, increase in utilities etc, make it harder for people on fixed incomes to live. I am 76 and still working but I wish that I didn't have to. I am fortunate to love my job. I love your channel and I learn something new every time I watch your videos. I will keep you in my prayers that God provides for you and keeps you safe. 🙏
Thank you. when I moved here 5 years ago, I planned to never move again. But nothing stays the same very long.
What a joy
Thank you.
Please keep your channel going, you are so positive🎉 Kathy Ut.
I've moved to a small apartment in a retirement village, in New Zealand. Best decision ever. 😊
Thanks for letting me know.
Very good directions thank you
Thank you. I hope you enjoy the bread!
And I forgot to tell you how much brighter you have made my days with your videos! Thanks!

Thank you. I’m glad you like it. no she lives in an apartment and Im checking her area to possibly get an apartment close to her.
Your potato bread and buns look so good! I can't believe you're going to be 80 this weekend, you look amazing and have so much energy! I think moving closer to your daughter and grandkids would be lovely but lots to think about I'm sure.
Thank you for your kind words! I’m really enjoying the journey.
Thank you for the bread recipe! I cannot wait to try it. I do not have a stand mixer I hope it turns out ok. Yours looked awesome! I really like your channel here on UA-cam. ❤
You’re welcome. You can use a hand mixer, too.
I love your owl dish sooo cute. What’s the history? One thing I LOVE about your channel, is you are QUICK and get right to the point ! You. Look very young ! For 80….. best wishes. Brenda, Portland Oregon……
Thank you so much! The owl was a thank you happy after a style show I coordinated at a senior living facility.
I’m so happy you decided to start a channel. I look forward to them. God bless you and take care.
Thank you for your comment.
Hi, Carolyn! What a wonderful recipe and it was clear as a bell; you are a very good teacher. I love your blue mixer. I would like to tell you my thoughts about moving. First of all - prayer! You knew that. My husband and I had tried for years to get my parents (with our help) to move close to us {they were in Colorado; we are in Virginia). I felt that they would surely do so when my Dad retired at 74, but no, they didn't want to be a bother and they were used to where they were. By the time they were in their early 80s, I could only get out there every year ot two. On our last visit to see them, we found that they had not been telling us that they were in trouble and everything was a shambles, including their health. My husband and I had to spend 6 weeks (luckily he could work remotely) helping them and packing up their stuff. Sorry to be longwinded, but do think about how much harder it might be for your family if you don't get settled near some of them in the near future, before the calamity comes. It always does. God bless you.
Pam in Virginia
Thank you. I’m thinking that too
Happy Birthday!
Thank you. it’s a milestone.
I've just started watching your channel.. love it!! I would have never guessed you were 80 years young!! You look a lot younger!! Also, love the backsplash behind your stove. Looking forward to more videos. Have a great day!!

Hello Carolyn! I just found your channel sometime last week and I just subscribed to it. You remind me so much of my grandmother, you talk like her and you even look like her somewhat. She was the consummate lady. She died when I was 22 and I miss her. Happy birthday this weekend! My birthday is on Feb. 4th. Thank you for the video on making the potato bread. I've never mastered making homemade bread, mine usually comes out like hockey pucks, but I might get brave and try this recipe. I wish you the best on your channel's success. Blessings, Bobbi in Virginia.
Thank you for your comment. My mother made wonderful yeast rolls and I never could until I found this recipe and another one I’ll share later. please give it a try.
I just found your channel. I’m retired 65 yr old and I enjoy your recipes.
Welcome, you will enjoy this recipe.
Thank you for posting the bread recipe. I will try it at some point in the coming weeks. Still in a house, bungalow😊 - Ontario Canada ❄brrr its snowy & cold where I am.
Thank you. Stay warm.
I enjoy your videos. You are such a warm and kind lady. I wish you well in your future living decisions
Thank you for watching and joining the journey.
Thank you for another video, you do such good video work and voice is excellent, and the bread baking is great !
Thank you for your encouraging comments.
Our home is paid for and I will be staying here as long as we can.
Thank you. that’s great.
I moved after spouse passed and moved across Texas to be closer to kids. I now live in a 55 and older condo style apartment with elevator and a big lobby area that locks down at night. I love it and feel very safe as an older, single woman. It’s great financially too, due to if something breaks I just call maintenance.
That sounds like a great living arrangement for you. Do you have HOA or maintenance fees?
@@Retiredhappyagain No fees! It’s a really small community, only 45 units. The only rule is you have to be 55 or older. Of course, this is in Texas and every state is different involving rent and fees.
I just discovered your channel a few days ago. You are incredibly interesting, talented and Maizie is a real little gem. You most definitely do not look your age.I sincerely appreciate your smile and look forward to your future videos. Thank you for sharing! Greetings from Ontario, Canada!
Thank you
Thank you to all my new Canada friends.
I just found your channel and I’m so thankful I did, You make really good videos! I hope your channel takes off and turns into an income for you.
You have a big decision to make. I know I hope to always live my daughter. We have 4 grown children but this daughter is who we can count on. There has been a lot of good advice in the other comments. Keep your eyes open is my only advice.
Thank you for your support and advice.
Thank you so much for putting the recipes. It makes it so much easier.
I am so glad you enjoyed the recipe!
Love the idea of making bigger rolls for HB buns. I use a bread machine to make loafs of bread.
Thank you.
My house is 28 by 50 With 3 bedrooms 2 baths. I was use to a rather large house over 2,000 sq ft. With an upstairs and small basement, I loved this larger home but now I like my smaller home. It is all electric.
This size house is just right for me. I’m anxious to try your bread recipe.
Thank you for joining and your input.
Hi from Michigan. I love your channel. So interesting and nice to watch. You’ve done so well with your filming for just starting a month ago! It would be nice to hear how you got started and what you had to learn to film, edit, and post your videos. 😊
Thank you for watching and your kind words. I had fun learning how to use the new camera.
I think apartment living has good points. I lived in an apartment twice in my life, but years ago. Last time was in 2005. I like that I had a balcony where I could have privacy and sit outside. Was able to have a few plants outside on the balcony to satisfy my desire to have plants around me. And when things break down the landlord will repair things, although maybe not always in the timeframe you’d like. But the responsibility is on them. Best of luck to you.
Thank you. Those are very good points.
The bread & rolls look amazing, i can smell them from here! I will be trying the recipe soon
Thank you. It gets easier each time you make it and it hard to eat store bought bread after eating your own homemade bread.
Hi, Carolyn! I moved from FL to TX a few years ago to be close to my family and lived in an apartment for 15 months while looking for a home to buy. Frankly, apartment living was an awful experience for me. I lived on the bottom floor and the noise at all hours of the night was unbearable. The management of the community was virtually nonexistent, so the rules in place to keep the community nice were not enforced. When my lease expired, the rent increased by over 100%. I bought a small single family home just under 1500 sf with a small yard and the cost including HOA fees, taxes, and insurance is very similar to the monthly rent I was paying. The only added cost is the maintenance. However, the maintenance is reasonable since my home is small.
Thank you for your input. Things to consider.
Happy Birthday sweet sister in Christ!🎉 80 is the new 55. 😊
Thank you.
That's 👍
I don't have a printer, and I use paper cookbooks.
Thank you.
Is your cookbook sold? I just found your UA-cam videos and subscribed right away. Best wishes to you.
Thank you for joining our journey. I sold all the books I had on Etsy and Im checking on getting more printed.
When I was contemplating retirement, I had a small mortgage and of course taxes and upkeep on a mid size house. I made the decision to sell. So stayed with daughters for awhile, but really wanted my own place. I decided to try senior apt living. There have been and still are good and bad points. I have found my one bed apt is just big enough for me, also I must say neighbors can be a problem at times. The rules and regs are an onus. And management and maintenance have changed 4 or 5 times in 6 years! On positive note the apt is quite roomy at 765 ft, one level, convenient post. Looking back to be honest, I would have kept my house and worked it out. But each person is different. Good luck!
Thank you for your input. I’m weighing the pros and cons both ways.
❤❤❤
Thank you.
I’ve watching your utup channel. Wish I knew were in Mississippi you live. I live in Pontotoc.
Thank you for watching.
The rolls and bread look amazing! I don’t have a large mixer with a dough hook, only a small hand held electric mixer. Do you think that would work to mix the dough as I would love to give it a try?
You can use a hand mixer for the first part but when you add the last 2 cups of flour have to go to hand stirring so you won’t burn up the motor of your hand mixer. 👍
Happy Birthday.
Thank you.
I would like to buy your cookbook. Could you let me know where I send the money? ❤
Thank you. I’ve sold all I had on Etsy but I’m checking on getting more printed.
@ okay. Please let me know when you get them printed and I will go on Etsy and purchase one. Thank you so much!
I moved to an apartment 25 years ago. I would prefer to live in a senior building at this point. My younger neighbors can be quite noisy. Especially those with teenagers
Thank you for your input.
What mixer do you bave?
This one is a Frigidaire. It works really well for what I do.
I have suffered from vertigo for the past 4 years since I had covid.I had cateract surgery on both of my eyes in October and November.
Thank you for your comments. I hope you didn’t have any bad effects from your cataract surgery. Every day I have to deal with the vertigo but I’ve learned exercises that help and way to deal with it.
When it comes to an apartment, a lot depends on the area of town it is in, if children are there, and the management. Some management really do not enforce rules on the property, and can be very intrusive, finding reasons to enter your apartment that really are not necessary. Some take excellent care of their property, others do not and jury rig a lot. Kids are great. But as a senior, many of us need to live on the ground floor. Kids run just being kids make a lot of noise even at the apartment swimming pool and hot tub. I would see them standing on the side going to the bathroom in the pool to the point, I would not use the pool, but yet my water bill had a surcharge on it every month for the water that was used in the community pool and a water the grass. And a lot of the parents just do not monitor their children like we used to. And they can recap it sometimes kids or kids. I love them actually, but I really don’t wanna live in an apartment complex with them. I have lived in apartment complexes. Also that always followed the law before they entered your apartment they gave you the proper notice we’re gonna come in and change your air conditioning filters. We’re gonna come in and do some maintenance work whatever they needed to do because it was always a problem for me when I was a nurse and I worked 12 hour night shifts and here they would insist that they had to enter my apartment after I had been working all night and needed to go to work that night and I had no options to sleep and get ready and if I made an error at work, it could mean someone’s life so if that was an issue for me. So I think a lot of it depends on going out walking the property looking around seeing if there are kids hanging around people sitting around smoking outside also looking at the quality of the apartment inside don’t just look at their model apartment asked to see an empty apartment. If they don’t let you see an empty apartment there’s an issue. Because a lot of times the model apartment has higher quality cabinetry everything in it and then you move in and you’ve got cheap cabinetry. It’s jury rigged, repairs, etc. and really you’re gonna know there’s a problem. I don’t really trust on line reviews of apartments because you get one person that’s had a problem and actually maybe that person was the problem And they can leave some pretty bad reviews. But what I got to where I did when I had to live in apartments was I went out and walked the apartment grounds talk to people that lived there before I ever even bothered going into the office and looking and do you know taking up any more of their time it was just not worth it to move in and then find out that it’s miserable once you get there. But there are some very nice apartments, especially if you can find a nice one that seniors live in. They’re usually quiet not always grandkids do visit, but they’re not there all the time and if there’s someone that lives above you who babysits for extra money, you’re gonna hear all that noise so you need to ask if they’re allowed to open a business like that because I ran into that one time in about two years I will be moving back into an apartment. So I really do hope to find a decent apartment I live on some family property right now. That really doesn’t work well other than I travel a lot right now as part of my retirement plan, and so I really only need a homebase. I’m only here3 to 4 times a year, but I learned during the big pandemic to have a homebase.
I totally agree with your post. I have lived in various apartment complexes and it definitely depends on the management and the area of the apartment. Most of my experience of apartment living has been in the Houston TX area. Due to a family situation I lived for a little over a year in the Austin area. The manager was constantly visiting the apartments and I believe they were concerned about activities some residents might have been involved in. When lease was up I moved out.
If you are respectful of others I truly feel you can have a good experience
Thank you for your input.
Be prepared to look for apartments that accept pets. They usually have limitations on pet size and breed. They will probably charge rent for Maizie. I pay $15.00 per month for one Chihuahua. There is a pet deposit also. Rent goes up every year; I lease for 12 months, but for more money I could rent month to month. 🙏🏻 for the Lord to guide you and bless you favorably.
Thank you. yes the ones I’m looking at are pet friendly and have poop bags and collection stations around the property which is good.
I love bread, but can't have gluten.........gluten free bread doesn't taste good to me.
Thank you.
