Aristotle the Greek wrote that skin colour is determined by climate. I tend to agree. Europeans are pink or red, not really "white". Ham is pink. But roast it in an oven and it turns brown.Same thing could happen over many thousands of years in a warm climate to human skin.. Here on the beaches of California, I have seen blue-eyed blondes with very dark skins. Very dark indeed. But that still leaves the question of hair and eye color. Well, couldn't eye color change also to adapt to more or less light or light of a different kind? One wonders. Sun glare would be different from snow or ice glare. Interesting fact: The dark skinned "aborigines" of Australia are often blonde. What is one to make of all this? Of course, it is pretty certian that the facial features, skin colour, the languages and music and religious ceremonies of North Indians link them at least to the Greeks, Romans and people of the Caucasus regions in Russia, as well as many Romanians, Spaniards etc. "Indo-European" is no myth.

If climate alone determines skin color Australians and South African Africaaners would be darker and Indian babies would be born very fair,. Genetics has a lot to do with it. A dark skinned Indian does not become as fair as a European just because he lives there, though I agree that darker skins evolved among people who lived under intense sunlight as the melanin which causes pigmentation, increases. You may want to know that all humans have blue eyes. It is simply a thin layer of pigmentation that changes that blue eye to a darker shade.
Majority of Indians are of indo-aryan race. They speak various indo-aryan langauges that descended from Sanskrit which has similarities with Latin, Greek and other indo-european languages.
Sankrit has been spoken in India since 1800 BC. Vedic Hinduism has many similarities with other ancient indo-european religion .
These all indicate that indo-aryan of india are indeed of Aryan race.

India's obsession with white skin is derived from culture where gods like indra and goddess saraswati are not only white,pure and water like glowing transparent shiny deities but also indra rides several headed pure white elephant(airavat) while goddess wears pure white robe like greeks.

Regarding north-south divide, no, northerners don't look down upon south indians but reverse is true. They never adopted to any society regardless of how advanced or primitive these societies were. In fact they expected the host societies to adopt to their ways., and when they became the power they insisted that European ways are the best.
Just think of that level of indifference. European dress was often too uncomfortable for the tropics yet women wore several peticoats under their dresses and the men stayed overdressed. In places like Hawaii they shamed the Hawaiians into changing their attire. As you know the Judeo/Christian society adopted the dark and light concepts from the Zoroastrians and evil was portrayed as dark and light for good. the 18th and 19th century slavery was along racial lines. There were white slaves but it became dominated by Africans so the idea of being dark was seen as a negative by the 18th century West. As for Europe's refusal to adopt I believe only China had laws which stated that foreigners must adopt to Chinese manners and clothing including learning the language if they planned to stay.

If Hollywood has a powerful hold on American minds then various Indian movie indusries were many times more powerful partly because the Hindu Epics were performed for eons and Movies made "Gods" out of Actors. Well you are wrong about these obession from vedic age this is a much recent obession u may know the reasons as well but this wasnt the case in vedic age. infact indo europeans were multi ethinic as egyptian described hittes as having east asian looks also we know many of indo europeans had brown skin and dark brown eyes and dark hair and only early farmers in europe had such european blonde hair and white skin.
