That "Duel" was as great a sign of respect as Ainz could have given Gazef. He could have killed him any number of ways, but he chose to use extremely powerful spells rather than weaker ones that still would have done the job. He took the fight seriously, as if Gazef was a level 100 player from the game. Then he also chose a spell that would prevent any normal person in the New World from being able to resurrect Gazef, since Gazef said he did not want to be brought back. He killed Gazef by treating him like a true opponent, using a strong magic combo he had to master to make Gazef's death as swift, painless and as honorable possible. He killed Clemontine without casting a single spell, crushing her slowly to make her death as slow, painful and disgraceful as possible. Because those two were roughly the same power, but Ainz liked one and hated the other, they make a great contrast to clearly show Ainz's values.

Ainz Ooal Gown's Relation to Gazef Stronoff.
They first met at Carne Village. Ainz introduced himself as the one who saved the village. After Gazef left to face the Sunlight Scripture, Ainz admired his courage and strong will to face his own death. He saved Gazef's life from the Sunlight Scripture and defeated them in his place. Despite being a lowly human, he viewed Gazef as a respectable man. When he met The Head Warrior again at The Katze Plains, Ainz unwilling to kill such a magnificent warrior, did his best to convince Gazef to surrender and swear his fealty to him. Even after Gazef refused Ainz's offer and was killed, the magic caster expressed no hatred for Gazef's defiance, stating with remorse that he never hated him. Ainz respected the Head Warrior's acceptance of death and casted an anti-revival magic on his corpse to ensure that the great warrior would remain in eternal peace. Long after the Head Warrior's death, Ainz still holds him to be the pinnacle of warriors in the New World, setting his personality and strength as a standard.
Gazef Stronoff's Relation to Ainz Ooal Gown.
Gazef saw Ainz as a friend to the Kingdom after he saved Carne Village and his life from the Sunlight Scripture. He highly respected Ainz and considered the magic caster to be stronger than him. Gazef tried to defend his savior when The Nobles suggests to capture him and he wanted to avoid making an enemy with a powerful magic caster who might be comparable to Fluder Paradyne. His fears of Ainz Ooal Gown's power are proven to be true at the Massacre at Katze Plains. Despite seeing the slaughter of his countrymen, the Head Warrior still managed to maintain a civilized conversation with him. Gazef was even comfortable with allowing Ainz to examine his sword, knowing full well that he was a fearsome undead, but is not a dishonorable thief.

Ainz was Ainz, Momon was Pandora's Actor....
Albedo was easily able to speak to Momon without breaking character, but blushed when Ainz showed up...
Also Ainz had his world item with him...
Remember, the spell killed more than 70k. The first part of the spell killed 70k, the second part of the spell (baby goats) killed another ~100k.
Dang!! That is freaking insane! They were like, yeah he's worth about maybe 7k troops. A grave underestimation!

The 2 gloves Mare had on were 1 world item that had 2 gloves that were a part of the item. Mare's one is also not a world item used for combat (it essentially allows the user to store exp in it and the other essentially allows you to give stored exp to someone else). The reason why they both had a world item on them is because as long as you have a world item other world items cannot effect you. Essentially making the items primarily used for defense. The exception is the 20 world items (out of 100) that are single use, which can bypass the protections of other world items.
Can't wait to see you guys on Season 4. I can tell you that Overlord start in Season 4. Season 1 to 3 pretty much feels prologue compare to this season 4.
Regarding the world items in question, firstly, Avarice and Selfless (the gauntlets Mare was wearing) are a pair, therefore technically a single world item, second, the effect has to do with solely the collection and distribution of exp, it's not suited for combat, thirdly, the world item Ainz has, I don't believe we know it's effects exactly, but I believe it just applies a bunch of buffs passively, so not exactly "nukes".
The reason Mare has a world item, is because you can resist the effects of a world item if you have one equipped, for example, if Shalltear had a world item on her in s1, Downfall of Castle and Country wouldn't have been able to brainwash her, and she would've massacred the black scripture, after that whole ordeal, Ainz tends to keep at least one world item on every guardian at all times when they're out for that reason.
A small correction here: Ia Shub-niggurath, the spell that Ainz used to summon the tentacle onions is actually one of the strongest spells in Yggdrasil. It's a wide AOE, instant death, super tier spell that summons a number of level 90+ baby goats depending on the number of kills caused by the initial spell.
Back in the game it was actually one of the more popular opening spells to cast, because even though instant death effects can be negated, it fully just drops as many as three max level mobs on the map, and that is after dealing some big damage with the instant cast effect.
That blush Albedo got when Ains touched her confirms that is the real Ains and Pandora's Actor is playing as Momon. Now looking for an opponent for Ains? Hmmm, maybe. More Albedo/ Ains interactions, hmmm, maybe. Characters from past seasons reappearing, hmmm, maybe. Twists you didn't see coming, oh yeah. Hang on to your hats lol.
His not taking the deal was a great showing of respect that he has for Ainz. Sure the people of his kingdom would have preferred he surrender but never forget the goblin brained people in charge of that country would never see reason if the war didn't end in their utter defeat. You'll see in season 4 what I mean by that. Yes his death is senseless but if he took the job with Ainz, those who already didn't respect him as the strongest human in the world would have respected him even less or even disrespected him actively and in public. Gazef can't win with the people of his kingdom so being the kingdoms warrior until the bitter end is all he could do. It seems selfish but it's really the only option he has. AInz is no idiot either, he didn't have to agree to a duel. He respected that man far more than he did any other trash person from that kingdom and ultimately freed Gazef from the burden of working for such a dysfunctional kingdom.
I like this perspective. That is another reason I love this show so much. There are just so many different perspectives on the events that occur and hearing the different viewpoints y'all have make it all the more worth it. Thank you for this.
Some clarification for a couple things that you guys talked about. Avarice and Generosity, the world item that Mare was wearing is a pair of gauntlets that allows the wielder to take, store and redistribute EXP. It's not a combat oriented item but Mare had it to protect himself from anyone using world item against him. The only way to protect yourself from world item effects is to use/wield world items. The orb that Ainz has in him is, like you correctly guessed, a world item. What it does is not entirely known but if memory serves it should give him a buff against dragons and of course it protects him against world items. Also fun fact, Mare is a stupid powerful AoE (Area of Effect) magic caster. I believe he is like the 3rd strongest character in Nazarick when it comes to pure power. Shalltear should be 2nd and the 1st place is not Ainz. (Don't crucify me if i got something wrong. This is all from memory.)
SLIGHT SPOILER WARNING:
I believe the strongest in Nazerik is Rubedo, Albedos' youngest sister, who's on the 8th floor. She's stronger than Touch Me, someone who PvP'd Momonga multiple times and won every single time. In Nazerik, the only ones who can defeat her are the rest of the 8th floor. Like, all of them. The entirety of the 8th floor would have to fight Rubedo to beat her. In a 1v1, no one in Nazerik could beat her except MAYBE Sebas in his true form.
@@keegansantoroski9042 Yup. I didn't mention her deliberately because i didn't want to look up if she's in vol.17 or 18. We haven't seen her in the anime yet and she was only mentioned in vol.7 of the LN so i wanted to keep myself and others spoiler-free.

5:21 trying to defend out brave knight: he's a typical honorable man, that values his honor more than his life. From such person perspective, switching sides, and becoming servant of enemy is such offend on honor, that it's worse than death (even if that ment battle would end here, and all other people would survive). And his swapping of sides would be seen as betrayal (if not, if would be portrayed as such by nobles. Climb and Brain word wouldn't mean a thing... if anything - they would be accused of being a traitors, only because they would try to defend what Stronoff did... so in terms of reputation, honor... Gazeff does everything he needs to and he has no other choice...
2:28 The creatures are called "Dark Young" and are 10 meters tall, not including the tentacles.
Fun Fact: Dark Young are level 90 and have higher defense than Ainz. Also, in Yggdrasil, the spell that summoned them almost always only summoned 1 with a few cases of 2 being summoned.
Amd even that would have been more than enough ^^ One could destroy the whole kingdom alone.
Funny thing is (It wont me shown in anime) the kid was told to throw the rock by a unknown man (propably someone from Nazarick)
Fyi, from the novel: Stronoff is like 1-2 levels lowers than Clementine. Only around 29-30. Ainz is lvl 100 in both class & race.
One thing I didn't tell you about Gazef is that with all the items he has equipped and his great strength, he already has one foot in the kingdom of the 13 heroes 😅 what do I mean by this?? Well, I mean the strength that he had at that time, it could be said that he was close to that of the 13 heroes, who were very powerful beings and whose power was considered almost unattainable for the humans of that world.
As a second fact, Clementine (the girl Ainz killed in the cemetery in the first season) with all her items she would already be completely in the realm of heroes and yes, that's what they think, she was much more powerful than Gazef 👍 in a few In words, Clementine is the most powerful human that Ainz has faced in these 3 Seasons and Gazef is the second, they were 2 prodigies, that is, they were very rare cases of very powerful humans, that's why Ainz saw someone almost as strong as Clementine wanted have it for him as a subordinate, since they are very rare to see, I mean humans that powerful 😅😅
Clementine, killed without even using magic, spine crushed to death, despair and agony while dying slowly, bloody body fell to the ground like trash.
Gazef, killed using Ainz's perfect timing instant death magic/time stop combo, no damage to his body, instant and painless death, Ainz held his body as he fell and gently laid him on the floor like a hero.
For real! It's wild and a good send off for Stronoff. It was very symbolic of the way Ainz views honor when it comes to combat and just who is opponent is in general. Loved it. Thank you for pointing this out, it's the fine details in this show that keep me wanting more.
Gazef, with the treasures of the kingdom, was considered strong enough to be a deterrent against invasions from other countries.
Much like Flüderer was a deterrent against the Empire getting invaded.
Gazef was basically their version of a nuclear weapon.
Gazef thought that, Ainz killing him in single combat, was meant to send much the same message to the other countries of the world as emperor El-Nix wanted to send, with Ainz opening spell.
"This is not a being you can ignore, no single country has anything remotely capable of standing up to this level of power.
The countries of the world will need to band together, or the world might be doomed"
Even the throne on which he sits is a world item , I do not know when but in some time there will be a movie in which you could see a good fight, should be set between the second and third season, but I do not remember well
The movie covers the story arc between the events of the third and forth seasons. The forth season has some references to the events from that missing arc, but the story itself was too much for TV - from what I heard. I think it's coming out some time next year. Very exciting!

I know yall love displays of power and recently started doing reincarnated as a slime but that show is GOATED (pun intended) for power flexing in an isekai like this
Funfact that the show leaves out:
The Guild members actually filled the library of Nazarick with real books.
They copy pasted whatever they could find, this includes history, but also science books including biological and chemical weapons and more.
Yet what Ains fears is that an NPC with genius level intellect like Demiurge, Albedo or Pandora's Actor discovers the books about nuclear energy and weapons.
Those NPCs might be capable of comprehending and recreating the content of the books so Ains removed some books from the library.
I am glad that you have reached one of your production goals with the new mic. The quality of your releases has been good, but it will be interesting to see your reactions when you aren't bound to a single spot. I liked seeing your theory-crafting, and it was good to see you work together to recall past faces, names, and events. I like that you paused the video for your sidebar discussions. There are even more details that can be hard-to-see with only a single viewing... like the fact that Brain's four-fold slash-of-light is actually a step above the variant developed by Gazef. Brain is a genius when it comes to the sword. I think he just needs motivation and a goal to pursue...which Gazef provided.

FYI -- Season 1 covered LN volumes 1-3; Season 2 covered 4-6; Season 3 covered 7-9; Heads up for next season. Season 4 covers volume 10,11 then skips volumes 12-13 since they'll be covered in the up coming movie. Season 4 concludes with LN volume 14. so there will be a gap but the anime doesn't mention it much.
Some dialog was missing from the last episode between gazef and raven. Raven informed that if Ainz tries to take territory from the kingdom, then the war must be completely one sided so the kingdom army can't do anything and so the citizens will be to afraid to rebel / fight back.
Keep in mind that Ainzs is not just a lvl 100 player, but also has the gear of a top pve player and guild master.
Affinity and gear can make up a 10-15 difference in level and that is not counting world item and Nazarick itself.
Even if a new world inhabitant reached lvl 100 they would still be outclassed gear wise.
Worst of all Albedo's youngest sister also exists, Rubedo.
Nigredo, Albedo and Rubedo are the sisters.
Albedo and Nigredo follow the them of beautiful on the outside and ugly inside and the reverse of it, well unless you trigger Nigredo's scare jump mechanics.
Rubedo is not yet shown, but a level 100 player is nothing to her from what is known.
TouchMe was the Yggdrasil world champion and even his guild mates couldn't beat him in PVP.
So the guild mates behind his back created an NPC in the most broken way and even used multiple world items to create Rubedo an NPC that literally goes beyond the stat, lvl, race, job restrictions of the game, for example under normal circumstances certain races cannot be mixed, the same goes for jobs or jobs and races to prevent a player or NPC from being to broken.
You know like completely negating all elemental weaknesses.

4th Season is a lot of fun tho it skips a whole arc that is SUPPOSED to be made into a movie so it might feel a bit confusing after episode 7
So heads up:
Just assume there’s a Time/content gap to be filled by a movie between episode 7 and 8 of Season 4

So the spell he used in this episode was not the most powerful he had, that would be wish upon a Star would he used in season one. Depending on the experience expended casting that spell it can cause most anything to happen. More experience used the more powerful the effect. But that isn't a super flashy spell, this spell was suggested by demiurge as a direct show of force because he didn't believe the humans would understand the real powerful spells.
Whoa that is wild! Great suggestion by Demiurge on that one. I mean despite it being used to massacre thousands, the spell served it's purpose very well!
yeah, Ainz also have things like being able to stop time and a fucking massive mana pool. he _is_ powerful, but not always in a flashy way (im sure there are better examples but thats what comes to mind lol)

Loved the finale of this season, momon showing up was such a huge twist when I first watched it lol. But man did they do it right. And if I'm being completely honest, I think I like season 4 more personally. No spoilers, but duuude you two gonna love what happens next
