Sarah, I have realised something and that is that you are so beautiful. Inside and out. I have told you a little at times about myself and I am sixty now. Sixty and still struggling to find my creative self. You are so inspirational and deeply calming and gentle on my soul. I truly appreciate how much you love and need nature. Nature is the most healing of spaces. As you learnt about your own needs you worked towards them… paraphrased. You are a remarkable and brilliant artist and person. Thank you for reminding us all to be grateful. I am grateful because beautiful people like you embrace all the specialness of life.

Sarah, I think you would really enjoy an outing to Dundreggan to see for yourself the work being done at "Trees for Life" by employees and volunteers to rewild Scotland. Keep the great videos coming. Hello again! I’m glad to hear your trip was great! Trees for Life is an incredible project! Their new Rewilding Centre looks like it will be amazing. I actually found out their office is in Findhorn, where I just attended a plein air painting event. I’m planning on contacting them to see if they have any need for a volunteer artist to contribute visuals for anything, plus I would like to start a grove and help contribute to the project.
Anyways, thank you for bringing it to my attention. It’s exactly the kind of project that excites me.

I'm sorry to be that person but it makes me angry when someone is like "do you know how lucky you are-" like no you've worked your butt off to be where you are. I remember you had a winter vlog talking about the incredible amount of planning and direction you have with your goals and business. Like the success you've had doesn't just fall out of the sky. Yes, there's an ounce of luck in it but 98% of it you've WORKED for. Anyways angry rant over haha.

Working hard doesn't allow anyone to move to Scotland permnently. You have to meet the eligibiity requirements set out by the Westminister government. There have been reporta of some having to leave because they failed to meet temporary visa requirements. Being very wealthy skips the barriers to most. It's extremely expensive too. Maybe there's a grandparent route. No-one should get false hope that hard work can overcome the hurdles though, should they be keen to move here.
It works both ways. As a UK citizen/subjcect, I can't even enter the US green card lottery system.

@@sarahinscotland all so true! Yeah I am not so much trying to leave for reasons of politics etc (though it is rough out here) as for other reasons related to weather, money, and a desire to actually follow a lifelong dream of living in the UK. You're right that every place has its challenges and its beauties. No place is perfect, though some places might be more or less perfect for an individual person's needs. I live in an incredibly beautiful place that is magical and flawed and I do my best to enjoy it as much as I can while I'm here.

I've lived in Scotland, Canada (and visited most states in the US) and now Australia so I feel I can provide an informed decision.
Scotland is very beautiful (like Canada in miniature). While not poor it has been held back by being part of the UK. The resources such as oil, gas, renewable energy, banking, whisky are all London based as such about 50% of the economies true output is not accounted for. What makes matters worse is that half of the taxes currently raised in Scotland are spent in England so they see the benefit. Scottish independence while bringing long-term benefits will undoubtedly cause major disruption in the short-term. The weather in Scotland is cold and damp frequently. The people are friendly and warm. Universal healthcare is provided to all and is the highest standard of the three countries I've lived (aside from Australian private which is exceptional).
Canada is truly stunning, with I find the most friendly and genuine people you'll ever meet. It is located next to the US which has its pros and cons. But mostly benefits! Finding a job is more difficult than the other three (job wise and career wise US is the best). People are educated and informed politically and more cultured than either Scotland (and definitely more than Australians). Americans are diverse very cultured (especially New York/New England area) or uncultured (parts South, Mid-West, and West Coast).
Australia large country, sparsely populated. Best of the four for city living with the exception of (Montreal, Canada). Balance of job prospects, cleanliness, salaries, medical treatment (private only which is probably better than US as you won't go bankrupt).
All three countries are very safe to live and do not have pockets of urban decay and poverty which is now appallingly bad in US. Australians are loud and brash like Americans but are a bit more uncouth. They have a veneer of friendliness....easy to make friends with but lacking the depth of friendships you'll find in Canadians and Scots. Americans fall somewhere in between.
I currently live in Australia, which has sooo much sunshine which imparts colours with almost a super luminosity. Beaches are wonderful. But Australia is in the middle of nowhere....whilst it is a lot more cultured than it once was it is a million miles away from Edinburgh or Montreal.
For me Canada and Scotland are on a par for overall best places to live. Close to US and Europe respectively. Culture and safety are paramount for me in a country to live. Australia and America are pretty even....but if I live in US I'd need to find a town or city with low crime.

@@andrewwotherspoona5722 thanks so much for sharing your thoughts/experiences in such detail! I really appreciate it 😊
If you don't mind me asking, what was your experience on the cost of living/housing in the places you lived? Obvs where you are in those countries (whether you're in a city or more rural, etc) will effect that, but I'm curious to hear what your experiences were.
Canada has been a consideration, it checks some of my boxes (some even better than other places like Scotland) but others not so much. I live in New England so the eastern part of Canada weather-wise is pretty similar to me (just colder). My ideal weather is mostly rainy, and never super hot or suuuper cold. I'm disabled (not legally but it affects my ability to make money as well as my ability to handle the more intense temperatures, noise, etc) so finding someplace where the cost of living is lower than New England is super important to me. Somewhere quiet with easy access to nature while maintaining at least semi-easy access (aka not hours or days away) to the resources of more populated areas. Finding someplace that meets all those needs and also is a safe enough place to live as an LGBTQ+ person in America (or anywhere) is a tall order. I expect that I'll have to make some compromises, but those are some of the things I'm considering.
I also have just always felt intensely drawn to the UK and Scotland in particular my whole life, so moving there at least for a time would be following that curiosity and pull. So it's definitely not just a desire based solely on logical checklists.

    • @andrewwotherspoona5722
      @andrewwotherspoona5722 2 роки тому +1

@@teatime114 Hi Elli, Based on what you've written I think Scotland is best for you. LGBTQ rights in Canada and Scotland are very similar. But I read that Scotland was considered the best place in Europe for queer rights.
Canada aside from British Colombia is very very cold in Winter. Although Summer in parts of Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia are quite warm. BC Is quite expensive for housing which is a disadvantage. Scotland with the exception of Edinburgh is reasonably cheap to buy a property, but salaries are lower, but with very low housing and living expenses actually balance out....particularly compared to Australia where house prices are now so high most ordinary people cannot afford a home (without the help of Bank of mum and dad)!

Sarah, you're such a big inspiration ❤️ I'm in love with your videos, I watch both of your channels and I started taking your Skillshare classes for rocks (they were also a problem for me) and painting in nature. I've learned a ton not only from the painting techniques but also from your approach to life, it feels humbling in a way but with a pinch of magic, it's so beautiful. I'm currently in maternity leave and at a crossroad with my career and I use the time to paint as much as I can, while teaching myself how to film and edit my videos and manage an online shop and it's so overwhelming sometimes. Watching some UA-camrs who moved out of big cities I wonder if I would be able to live this way. I live in the suburbs of a big city, but there's so much trees around it feels almost like countryside. Yet I struggle because of my noisy neighbours, and the general hustle. What is it with people today, that they can't live without the noise, or music constantly playing in the background (to me it's the same really). What are they running away from? Life is to precious to waste it away like this, atleast for me. And The older I am the more I want to live in the "now", not seek shelter in so many unhealthy things. I'm not judging, it's just that life is so special, so unique, and it's so easy not to see this. But enough about that. I musi say I love your hat Sarah, I can't imagine you without it.
