All New AUDI Q5 Sportback Coupe 2024 - Visual REVIEW, exterior & interior

The coupe-like crossover trend continues with Audi's take on a sleeker Q5. The 2024 Q5 Sportback brings a dose of style to Audi's compact luxury SUV, but does it bring enough substance to back up its fashionable looks?
Sloping Roofline, Compromised Utility
Like its coupe-SUV rivals from BMW and Mercedes, the Q5 Sportback trades some practicality for a sportier profile. The steeply raked rear hatch cuts into cargo space compared to the standard Q5, dropping the capacity from 25.8 to 24.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats. Rear headroom also takes a hit, making the back seats feel more confining for taller passengers.
On the plus side, Audi did an admirable job preserving rear legroom. There's still ample space for adults, and the loss of headroom isn't as extreme as in some other coupe crossovers. Up front, the low roof doesn't impede visibility or make us feel cramped.
Premium Cabin, But Lacking Refinement
As you'd expect from Audi, the Q5 Sportback features an impeccably crafted cabin with a rich mix of upscale materials. The front seats provide exceptional comfort and support. However, a few nitpicks prevent the interior from achieving best-in-class status.
Audi's latest infotainment system looks sleek with its integrated screens, but the touchscreen's tablet-style positioning atop the dash feels a bit tacked on. We also noticed an unusual amount of road noise and suspension impact harshness intruding into the cabin on rough surfaces.
Uninspiring Performance
Powering the Q5 Sportback is Audi's ubiquitous 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder producing 261 horsepower. That's enough for adequate acceleration, but nothing to get enthusiasts excited. A 0-60 mph time of 6.3 seconds feels lazy for a model with "Sport" in its name.
The powertrain's sluggish responsiveness further dampens driving excitement. There's an annoying delay when you put your foot down, with the turbo engine feeling lethargic off the line. The seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is crisp and responsive when hustling, but fails to deliver the refined low-speed engagement you expect in a luxury vehicle.
Handling is competent if uninspired, though the Sportback grips respectably in corners. But with its comfort-tuned suspension and numb steering feel, there's simply nothing viscerally engaging in how this sporty crossover drives. If you want something livelier, you'll need to step up to the higher-performance SQ5 variant.
The Verdict: An Acquired Taste
Overall, the 2024 Audi Q5 Sportback brings undeniable curb appeal thanks to its fashionable coupe design. It preserves reasonable utility too, avoiding the extreme sacrifices of some rival models. However, the Sportback's dynamic shortcomings and lack of outright refinement prevent it from achieving class-leading status.
Unless you absolutely must have the Q5's sleek style, you're better off sticking with the standard version and its blend of space, performance, and value. The Sportback is an acquired taste for buyers willing to sacrifice some practicality and engagement in the name of fashion.
