I'm 1970s ex soldier, in the Cold War we were safer then than now, because of the MAD principle & Detente which did work. After the Soviet break up & regions becoming independent & based on religion or affiliations East & West. NATO became aggressive by putting into NATO former 'East' Europeans Poland Hungary Romania of which the last 2 have fascist leanings, Ukraine also, the Azovs Battalions neo Nazis & anti Slav on racist grounds & began persecuting ethnic Ukraine Slavs. If only they said to be NATO neutral this very risky war would not have happened. Ukraine keeps upping the ante & we sheepishly give them weapons costing billions & very destructive, as the Russians surprisingly are now cap in hand to Iran & North Korea, 50 years ago it was in reverse. Putin will be deposed in 2024.
