Violent crime and theft is higher than ever. I know some city police that work in major crimes and they have ‘opinions’ when it comes to traffic enforcement behavior.
Tint tickets are easy. It's work they can do that a judge won't throw out. Probably why the officer questioned the color of the truck. One little off thing these days and everything is tossed.
Oh, absolutely thrilled the cops are laser-focused on the truly pressing issues, like window tint and other vital vehicle modifications. I can practically sleep with my doors unlocked now 🙄
I say this as being a Retired Law Enforcement Officer for 36 plus years. When I was working the road, vast majority of my career, I did not have the time or interest of bothering Motorists for issues that did not involve Safety or Impairment. I was both a Street Cop and later became a Certified Traffic Crash Reconstructionist since 1988. I worked in our Traffic Division and focused only on Reckless driving and Speeding that were at a minimum of 15 mph over the posted limit. I don't understand today's agencies and some Officers for the need of minor equipment infractions. I guess I am too Old School and would rather be seen by the Public enforcing laws for Safety related issues only. My only caveat to any of this was Window Tint where I could not see the driver. Window Tint (My Opinion) Tint can go two ways, not only as a Safety issues for Police, but also posses a "Vision" threat for other vehicles, especially at Dusk, Dawn or Night time. I have investigated the death of a Motorcyclist with Headlight On in the Daylight and the other driver not able to see the Motorcycle due to too dark tint on there drivers window. Enough said about all this now. All this is in the rear view mirror now. (I miss the work and reconstruction challenges, but I don't miss the Politics and the Drunks or the idiots. Don & Mrs Don, keep up all these great videos. They are always great and informative. Sorry for being so long winded.
Thank you for taking the time to respond, as well as your service. My tint is 35%-50% on our vehicles. We choose to have it for heat protection and some privacy. We can still be seen, but fine details are lost in the contrast. I 100% agree that too dark of tint is hazardous for many reasons. Even if it was legal, I would stay with the ranges if specified above. Thank you for being part of the Donslife community!
You such a bad ass! LOL! Must be slow in Stoon these days, I was pulled over on my peddle bike yesterday for riding to aggressively through the down town! He chased me down!
That's too bad man that it happened but keep in mind that one officer shouldn't label all officer's as asshats/traffic nazis lol. I mean clearly someone that can afford an AT4 and mod it out is USUALLY not a "turd". We have similar laws in Oklahoma on the wheels sticking out past the wheel well but that law was primarily intended for 18 wheelers. As far as the light bar goes, here in Oklahoma, you can't have blue and or red lights of any kind emitting from the front while the vehicle is in motion. Most officers here don't jack with tint as their own police and personal vehicles are tinted. One thing I may have missed on your video, is nothing was said about your modified exhaust (sounds nice). It's against the law to have a modified exhaust unless it's from the factory, but again its one of those laws that are not enforced here because many people have it on their cars and trucks. At the end of the day the officer was doing his job love it or hate it and I admit Don had I seen your AT4, I'd just keep driving but maybe up there in Canada they are stricter on some traffic issues. Take it easy man.
I was recently pulled over because of the step bar on my vehicle, which has built-in turn signals. The officer said I can’t use them on city streets or highways. I've been using them for four years, and this is the first time anyone has mentioned an issue with them.
Definitely picking on ya, I’m in Alberta, I’ve run tint since I could drive, only gotten 1 ticket, 5% front doors, 2.5% rears and 43% windshield. I’ve also installed tint and PPF for 3 yrs recently, now back in at the oil plants but we would do at least 3-5 Windshields a week. And yes we even installed tint on several cops personal vehicles, 5% at that.
Tint, has been and always will be a bullseye on your vehicle. It allows them to stop you, then the fun begins. My understanding of mudflaps was, it is only required if the wheels poke out of the the wheel well. Otherwise, it's not required. Lights, yah that'll always catch the police's eye. Are you saying a white DRL running light on an aftermarket lightbar is illegal?
Sorry Don. Glad we don't have laws on mudflaps down here, had to delete mine to clear 35x12.50s. Just roll up to inspection with all your windows down and hope they don't think anything of it. Edit: Got to the inspection portion and see that you did roll em down!
Money grabbing communists. Our state (ny) now has cameras and sends out tickets for speeding In the mail for even 7 mph over ... Welcome to hell pretty soon you won't be able to fart In public either
Out in NB, it's 172.50 for a window tint violation and 2 points. I'm 29 and I've had 2 window tickets since I've been 18 on 2 different vehicles. I find it's just better to eat it, unless it's a fix it ticket, then it's up to you
I live in NC where they would not inspect my truck unless I removed the window tint. I had a conversation with my wife's doc and he said send him the wavier form and he would fill it out. Haven't had a problem since. Check your states to see if they have a wavier that can be filled out by a doc and turned in. I have a sticker under the window tint and a letter from the state that says the tint is allowed.
hahha I liked that. "Use the miss's to "distract" them from asking about your tinted windows." When I had a Toyota Supra with tinted windows, I had a certificate stating the tint is needed for Medical reasons. I forget the details on how I got it, but it was straight from the state DOT. I did not get a doctors paper saying i needed tint. IDK, maybe you can look into what it takes to get a medical pass for your tint.
Sheesh, obviously they have nothing better to do, which is sad considering you've mentioned that theft and crime are at an all time high. I used to get hassled in my 20's and 30's regarding tint, but haven't had any issues in probably 15 years and I still tint every vehicle I buy to match whatever the factory is. Both my Sierra and Highlander have 23% which matches perfectly. Yet the laws around here state you can't go below 35% 🙄 I think it's an outdated law....or one that needs to be adjusted to match the society we live in. I think it's perfectly fine to have a degree of tint that matches the factory. Not only does it keep the heat down significantly, it reduces the UV rays as you mentioned. With that said, I don't think you should be able to have blacked out windows and I understand why LE doesn't like it. The mud flaps issue...eh, I get it. Where I'm at there are a ton of 3/4 ton diesel trucks, mostly Dodge or RAM, with no mud flaps flinging crap everywhere and it drives me up a wall when I'm behind them. Here I am trying to keep my vehicles nice and the person ahead of me just picking up and flinging stuff at me. Personally I removed the AT4 ones and put on the slightly longer standard ones from GMC on my own AT4 because I wanted the extra protection
I just think it's funny that the cops can't even be bothered to come and do a 5-minute inspection.... the cop that gave the ticket had nothing better to do, and the one that was supposed to inspect was to lazy too... Saskatoons finest!!!
Many Officers drive around with much darker windows then what the law allows and ticketing those with Window Tint on the roadway, being a Hypocrite. I have heard all the excuses, but it's B.S. Police must operate with in the boundaries of the laws.
Tint is an offence right across Canada. If the manufacturer of the vehicle tints the windows, via dipped like your rear windows, then they can’t do too much. The only other way is you’d have to provide a prescription proving that you require tint. I’ve had 3 tint tickets so far. The officers I’ve dealt with were fantastic and didn’t give me a hard time, just use caution with the highway patrol or peace officers, they have chips on their shoulders and typically are not nice to deal with
I don't disagree with it being "total BS"...however, if you are the vehicle behind a truck/jeep with limited flares and/or no mudflaps and a stone is thrown do you think they care that the vehicle behind them gets damaged?
A friend had similar issues, tinted windows and loud exhaust..... so he rented an exact make, model, color, and year of car moved license plate to car and drove to the state inspection... he showed the paperwork and I couldn't believe they let him past and fooled the inspector. The paper worked match up, and he said the inspector didn't even look for a vin number....amazing. 😂😂😂😂 He said everything is back to stock and that was that. 😂
Most US law enforcement will pull a person over for window tint if their state does not allow it. Not uncommon at all. Same as the states who require a front license plate. On the mud flaps not sure why someone here would post we don’t have these laws but I’m going to say most if not all states have some mud flap law. It’s a safety issue. No one wants your roadspray, mud and rocks off of your tires. Like all things UA-cam many people don’t even look at the law or their car warranty before they do something. Measure twice cut once folks.
@@Donslife yes you did. It’s a constant here in Texas as well. There’s so many trucks here that police are generally far too busy to do that unless it’s flagrant and unsafe.
DonsLife, I am pretty sure since the mid to late 80’s maybe early 90’s manufacturing of vehicle glass has UV protection built into the glass. I drive 1000’s of miles a year and never had my are sunburned laying on the door while driving. I have moved it because it was getting too hot.
Police do not appreciate nice vehicles!!! Don if you ever find the polarizing tint please give the source. It was at SEMA and it does exist but I cannot find any. You energize it with varying voltage to go from clear to limo black. I think the Tesla cyber truck has all of their windows like that.
Wow I can't believe their so obsessed with stopping people with tint and other mods there. Haven't heard of this happening so much in b.c. but seems to be a huge issue with the saskatoon police. Bummer
Not complaining or anything but I’m a truck driver and I do take loads into Ontario Canada. I cross through Windsor Everything is fine love Canada. But I notice that Canada customs seem to not like American truck drivers I always get the ones that give dirty looks and yell at me saying pay attention when I’m trying to gather paperwork to hand them I’m not sure what the issue is I don’t disrespect them or argue I just answer the questions best I can and move on but it’s always Canada’s customs that give me a hard time other then that the people are nice and kool with me
In New Jersey there is a form called an MR-15 that your eye doctor can fill out to allow the tint on the vehicle. It lasts for 5 years then a renewal is needed. Is there something like that in Canada?
It’s always something. I’m sure you thought about just adding some type of rubber or the original ones back on. I don’t think it looks bad with the flares and flaps. As for the color can’t disagree with them on that. If the vin comes back to a white GMC. And you report it stolen you can’t blame them too much if a green one goes by. I was stopped years ago for reverse lights not working. I explained to the officer that they were an option for that year 1962 never had them just the lens and the rubber plug inside of the trunk.
That's BS. I live in Vancouver Washington and we also have law's about tire width outside the fenders. But the police hear don't stop people for anything anymore.? I have seen tires stick out pass the fenders 3/4 of the tire is outside the finder!! I think it looks ridiculous. A couple of inches 2 or 3 pass the edge looks good.
Hi Don its called roadside taxation, i have a lot of experience on this subject unfortunately, more so with rcmp than city cops but if you drive something nice, they know you will pay your ticket, if your driving a POS they will leave you alone, or maybe it was quota day you just never know
Do you have a annual safety inspection your vehicles have to go thru? Where as you get a sticker they place on your windshield saying it passed. In some states they have this. PA does, I'm from there.
I guess you don’t have real crime where you live, so they get busy writing tickets with things that do not matter. Those are light modifications where we are in Texas.
Technically the window tint has to do with officer safety, if you have window tint, and your windows are rolled up when the officer approaches they can not see the occupants of the vehicle, or what those occupants are doing, protocol has officers in an escalated state, with holster snap un done, and in a ready to draw position…. Just roll down all your windows when you get pulled over. You just need to have respect for the law, and they typically leave you alone. You should just move to the land of pick up trucks, Deep in the heart off Texas, where you pretty much can get away with anything.
Sask police are a little more harsh on modifications. Actually, right across Canada the restrictions on modifications are really high. Alberta, while we fall under the same restrictions, we have a better police force and really won’t bother anyone unless you give them reason.
Probably safe to assume there are a million cars running up there held together by rust and chewing gum, but they waste their time on this truck. Lame. On the bright side, the US is cracking down on Carolina squats.
Sounds like they have nothing better to do... Here in New Jersey, USA, you cannot have any widow tint in front of the driver. And you can only have 4 lights lite at once... weather is low beams and fogs or high beams and driving... and you have to have switches to turn them on or off at any given time... On my 2002 GMC 2500 HD i used to have KC Dayliter fogs and driving mounted on my grill guard. As for the grill guard you cannot block your headlights so i had to remove that part of the brush guard to get the truck inspected. Them there comes to the next one... my 2015 wrangler has a cat back dynomax exhaust no one likes cause it is kinda throaty and no one likes it when I'm shifting gears. The cops always pull me over for revving my engine when all I'm doing is driving. Oh and i forgot you cannot have anything at all anywhere on your windshield other them you DMV inspection sticker.
@@Donslife *ditch, not fitch- ha, but you got what I was talking about. Thanks! I have a ‘24 Yukon XL and unfortunately I can’t find anyone who makes them for my vehicle.
Sorry to see your local LE has nothing better to do than to harass people with very minor infractions of motor vehicle regulations which shouldn't be in the code to begin with. Where I am in the States this kind of harassment is reserved for motorists who are otherwise obnoxious… loud exhaust/music, aggressive driving and so on. I can tell you my 23 AT4 is a HUGE offender in comparison to yours. I have twice the amount of tire poke you have and of course no mud flaps either. I use 2 inch spacers and run 295/65-20 which are 35x11 tires on a 4 inch BDS lift. My front door tint is two shades darker than what the code allows. I wanted the tint to match the rear door tint. The truth is these kinds of vehicle regulations are only in place to generate an income stream for the local government as the conditions they are meant to address have no real safety value at all.
That's a bummer Don, Sorry to hear that. What is you tire size? I have the stock good years on my 23 AT4 and they hum big time at 50-55 mph I was looking at the toyo open country MT or AT. Looking for your input. Thanks!
I had the same problem with my 21 at4 with the stock Good years replaced them with kenda klever A/T 2 and love them, quite and all around a great tire.

You can probably buy a bigger better house still do your videos and have amazing life. Nobody’s gonna say shit about your tires. your mudflaps your fenders nothing.
This is what’s going to happen with these blue states. I was in Oregon and thank Hod I was only working there or else I would have to do the same shit.
Ok, so I can only assume that particular cop is just jealous that he doesn’t have a truck like yours. Best guess is his wife made him buy a Dodge Caravan
You need to seriously consider running for a city political position where you can help turn these BS laws around. This type of stuff is asinine. The only way we stop the craziness is to get involved.
What’s a load of BS. You truck is an everyday truck here in Texas mine and yours are very similar but I have a 2022 Ram Limited 2500 Mega Cab. Window tint is much darker than your plus I have the full vehicle window visors/sunshades on both back windows and the very back window got a digital rearview with the Limited. And we don’t need mud flaps on 3/4 ton truck only the dullys. They got you for a lot of BS. Traffic law enforcement for stuff like this usually isn’t followed here in the US unless you just happen to get the one dick of a cop that ain’t got nothing better to do.
Cops need to give out a certain amount of tickets a month to make there monthly duty so at the end of the month that's when they will pull you over for any stupid reason
Oh come on - truck drivers need window tint for skin cancer?! That's a bunch of hooey and you know it. The police would like to see in the vehicle when they pull it over so that they don't get surprised by someone with a weapon that they cannot see because of your dark tinted windows. Get rid of the dark window tint and stop making lame excuses. Most provinces will not issue a safety inspection with dark tinted windows like that. Really! In my province, if you change the colour of your vehicle you must go the Motor Vehicle office and get a new registration. Did you bother to check what the motor vehicle rules were before you made a bunch of mods that made your truck illegal?
According to GM: All 2022 and prior passenger cars and trucks: Ultraviolet Ray Protection: Windshield reduces UV rays down to 4% or less. Front side door glass reduces UV rays down to 35% or less. Rear window, doors, or 1/4 glass reduces UV rays down to 35% or less (Without RPO AJ1 or AKO). Rear window, doors, or 1/4 glass reduces UV rays down to 10% or less if equipped with Privacy Glass (With RPO AJ1 or AKO).
How is that big infotainment screen you installed performing? My original in-dash infotainment screen packed it in and the local dealer wants $1600 to replace it. I'm thinking that the one you installed might be the way to go but the price will be about what the Chev dealer wants for their original parts. My dilemma is that I'm likely only going to have the truck for another year. When I go to sell/trade it will need something otherwise I'm going to get penalized on the value of the Silverado.
For fun I looked this up! Who knew?

Police do not appreciate nice vehicles!!! Don if you ever find the polarizing tint please give the source. It was at SEMA and it does exist but I cannot find any. You energize it with varying voltage to go from clear to limo black. I think the Tesla cyber truck has all of their windows like that.
I had a lead for something like this and suddenly it fizzled out. One day maybe! I will be at SEMA this year too
Wow I can't believe their so obsessed with stopping people with tint and other mods there. Haven't heard of this happening so much in b.c. but seems to be a huge issue with the saskatoon police. Bummer
Not complaining or anything but I’m a truck driver and I do take loads into Ontario Canada. I cross through Windsor Everything is fine love Canada. But I notice that Canada customs seem to not like American truck drivers I always get the ones that give dirty looks and yell at me saying pay attention when I’m trying to gather paperwork to hand them I’m not sure what the issue is I don’t disrespect them or argue I just answer the questions best I can and move on but it’s always Canada’s customs that give me a hard time other then that the people are nice and kool with me
Officer did you a favor, those flares are hideous! Get your eye doctor to prescribe the tinted windows.
😂 Love it
In New Jersey there is a form called an MR-15 that your eye doctor can fill out to allow the tint on the vehicle. It lasts for 5 years then a renewal is needed. Is there something like that in Canada?
Mrs Donslife looked into it years ago, she only found US examples. Maybe it is worth a revisit?
@@Donslife maybe it’s time to relocate.
Hey Don, what is the model of mud flaps that you had ordered? I have the EGR liners as well and would love to see compatible flaps
I ordered the 12” kick backs from Enthuze (in Canada). I am uncertain if they are the best match with the EGR flares.
Someone wanted a payday. That's too bad
Hi Don its called roadside taxation, i have a lot of experience on this subject unfortunately, more so with rcmp than city cops but if you drive something nice, they know you will pay your ticket, if your driving a POS they will leave you alone, or maybe it was quota day you just never know
Thanks for saying my truck is nice 😉
Do you have a annual safety inspection your vehicles have to go thru? Where as you get a sticker they place on your windshield saying it passed. In some states they have this. PA does, I'm from there.
No annual inspections here. Just if a vehicle was purchased from another province
Sorry to hear that….. really there are more worst offenses to worry about: murderers, human traffickers, drug dealers, etc…. Just sayin🤦🏻♂️
Sask police are a little more harsh on modifications. Actually, right across Canada the restrictions on modifications are really high. Alberta, while we fall under the same restrictions, we have a better police force and really won’t bother anyone unless you give them reason.
okk i'm bringing the tacoma to SK for a little love
Probably safe to assume there are a million cars running up there held together by rust and chewing gum, but they waste their time on this truck. Lame. On the bright side, the US is cracking down on Carolina squats.
😂
Off topic…where did you purchase your fitch light mounts from?
Putco. Luminix, I think they are called
My stock tires have 40K km (25K miles) and they hum the most at 90kmh-55mph, it’s really pretty irritating
Protecting and serving the regime, not the citizens. Business as usual.
I see more vehicles with tint than ever before. So many blacked out too
@@Donslife Become ungovernable.
where do you live? I’m a retired state trooper and I have never seen anything like this nor have I seen the DOT enforce this on pick up trucks
Saskatchewan, Canada. The city police seem to have more of an issue with these things than the RCMP (Federal)
@@Donslife oh ok gotcha I’m here in the United States not very familiar with Canadian laws not to get political, but it’s a shame that it’s come to Petty stuff and not actual law breaking criminals!!!!
"Deez nutz" I see you Don. lol
I knew it when I said it and left it there for you! 😃
I mean, seriously I’m no disrespect. We don’t want what Canada does down here in the states. They are they are and now you know, but come down to Florida bro you have the time of your life. You can probably buy a bigger better house still do your videos and have amazing life. Nobody’s gonna say shit about your tires. your mudflaps your fenders nothing.
Tempting
This whole video made me think god bless USA
This is what’s going to happen with these blue states. I was in Oregon and thank Hod I was only working there or else I would have to do the same shit.
sounds like it is just a money grab
Ok, so I can only assume that particular cop is just jealous that he doesn’t have a truck like yours. Best guess is his wife made him buy a Dodge Caravan
Sounds like California laws....
Theres ways around this.. I hope you do some research.
Ur country should be going after bad guys not people in 80 k+ autos.
12:01 😂😂 perks of having beautiful wife I see
You would think the police have better things to do 🤷♂️
You need to seriously consider running for a city political position where you can help turn these BS laws around. This type of stuff is asinine. The only way we stop the craziness is to get involved.
😂 I’be been told that before for other subjects too
Wow that’s assho**e. They probably hate you and targeting you for long time
Commies
3L Duramax teaser at the end????
Can’t rule anything out right now
You're a real criminal Don. Lol
According to laws passed in a different era
Did he get you for your exhaust?
You should move to America and vote for Donald Trump. We would love to have you here. You do a great job.
2" spacer, that cant be any good for things.
I know it is a contentious subject
Cops need to give out a certain amount of tickets a month to make there monthly duty so at the end of the month that's when they will pull you over for any stupid reason
Canada vehicle regs Suk A$$,, feel bad for y'all,, come to the U S , no more BS, except Cali,, they suk as well,,
Time to move! What a joke your providence is.
One day we'll move again
wtf bunch of bullshit
According to GM: All 2022 and prior passenger cars and trucks:
Ultraviolet Ray Protection:
Windshield reduces UV rays down to 4% or less.
Front side door glass reduces UV rays down to 35%
or less.
Rear window, doors, or 1/4 glass reduces UV rays
down to 35% or less (Without RPO AJ1 or AKO).
Rear window, doors, or 1/4 glass reduces UV rays
down to 10% or less if equipped with Privacy Glass
(With RPO AJ1 or AKO).
