Nice car. But a bit overpriced. Should be 10-15k cheaper. The premium brands deliver a more up class interior. But the Toyota delivers a more reliable product.
Toyota seems overpriced at first, but is it really? In Russia we have 2 trims only for Highlander, with 3.5 V6 (starting at 51.5k USD and up to 60k). No hybrid is offered here. But there is not much choice if you want full size SUV with third row: Kia Sorento or Hyundai Santa Fe are better priced (29k to 43k), but smaller. Or Mohave from 45k to 51k. Not much of a choice here, and Toyota is far cheaper than German alternatives. So I would say Toyota is competitively priced.
@@AlexGonoff What about Pajero Sport? Does it still available on Russian market or does MMC takes plug out from this market as on all European countries as well? Do you have Lexus RX as they both look similar in size?
@@user-uq7io2os3r we do have both MPS and Lexus RX here. Pajero Sport is not really a competitor for Highlander, more for Toyota Fortuner (both are build on small pickup truck chassis). 14:04 Thomas, for once, is not good with numbers! :-) What do you think, Thomas? Highlander vs XC90, what is your preference? I would need occasional adult use on the 3rd row!
You get the great reliability of Toyota and Honda cars. They are not over engineered unlike German cars. I can attest to that because I'm a mechanic. Japanese cars will take you 3 steps to do something, but Germans technology will take you 15 steps to complete the same task.
I don't like the car mainly because of the interior, but it was worth to check the review for the Querox song. I'll test JBL system with this music in my new RAV4 plugin hybrid when it finally arrives :-)

Another great review from Thomas. It’s a nice car but way too expensive, as Toyotas have become lately. I’d rather get a Volvo or Audi at this price level
For us in the US, the Audi Q7 with similar equipment is $25000 more, and for the Volvo XC90 about $20000 more. You get more luxury for the price with the Audi and Volvo.

But where will I park it? Skoda Kodiaq is big inside and small outside good for us Europeans. This is sooooo bigg, and fuel is expensive, our roads are too small, clearly not made for us Europeans.
Not all of Europa has small roads. Stop generalizing. It’s really not that large, plenty of European SUVs are bigger. I’m sure Highlander will find plenty of buyers. He said that the consumption was only 6.5l per 100km in their test. That’s very low, especially in that size class.
Let's be honest the hybrid and CVT transmission is to get the tested CO2 values down enough so that Europeans are not over-taxed with those daft CO2 taxes... I always think Toyota (in fact all Japanese vehicles) miss out on design and technology... The interiors are always dated in looks and their GPS, infotainment systems are really very poorly thought out...
Disappointing expensive for Europe, as most cars are now. How can it be almost half the price in the US? Also I think a Volvo XC90 is a much better buy for similar money.

I love leather seats - people love to eat beef so it’s a sensible use of available resources which would otherwise go in the bin. It smells great too and has more give. It’s also so much better than the painfully dull softex leatherette which doesn’t breathe and makes your bum sweaty! No character. Ethically sensible I say! Shame it costs a lot to spec it. Long live leather.
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. Please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: ua-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/v-deo.html In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which exact body part you would be murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse? The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination. If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: ua-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/v-deo.html Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car. In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. And if you want the slick look or something to wipe clean easier, that is possible with animal free leatherette. And there are also new leatherette materials available which are superior in every aspect: ua-cam.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/v-deo.html Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all it is just common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.
This car is far overpriced in Europe. It seems Toyota believe too much in themselves after record comeback in 2020. If we compare it with Kia Sorento for 10/15k you get better electronics, infotainment, plug in version and still usable third row. Prices are even crazier in the Netherlands. I said that to the dealer and I will be surprised if this is a success. Very nice product - very boldly priced in Europe. Hyundai/Kia will kill it !

Why don’t Euro-spec Highlanders get the 12.3 inch infotainment screen that the US-spec ones get, and instead we have to make do with only an 8 inch screen?
In the UK, only the smaller screen in available. In mainland Europe, top trims get the same 12.3-inch display as in the US.
@@dashiellstanford1892 I heard it was because the bigger screen wasn't RHD-compatible, but I have also heard that the new updated Highlander for 2023 will be getting the bigger screen on UK cars.
If that's the case, why couldn't Toyota make the bigger screen RHD-compatible initially?
@@joshbacon8241 the 2023 models have a completely new display and software. Even though the display is the same size, everything about it is totally overhauled (functionality, graphics, pixel density, speed, etc).
I suspect this new software was built from the ground up to be RHD compatible, while Toyota's old Entune system (which powered the last 12.3-inch display) was not.

@@jsponson ha true, thanks
We have both RX and RX L here (the latter is 7-seater), RX L is priced from 64k to 79k USD. RX L comes only with 3.5 V6, regular RX can be hybrid or 2 litre turbo.

Odd, since they do these reviews in english 😉
You get the great reliability of Toyota and Honda cars. They are not over engineered unlike German cars. I can attest to that because I'm a mechanic. Japanese cars will take you 3 steps to do something, but Germans technology will take you 15 steps to complete the same task.
I don't like the car mainly because of the interior, but it was worth to check the review for the Querox song. I'll test JBL system with this music in my new RAV4 plugin hybrid when it finally arrives :-)
Review the facelifted 2021 Land Cruiser 7 seater next since they're basically the same price lol.
Same price? Highlander in the highest configuration cost €56k where land rover just starts with very poor equipment.
@@bedrock111 I don't know my countrys Highlander price yet, but Thomas said it's up to €65k, in Germany I assume, so probably the same in Sweden.
I live in Belgium. My preference is the XC90 but it’s so expensive that this might be a good alternative. It’s not as luxurious but I’m sure quality is great as will be resale value.
I guess in smaller cities Toyota may be the only alternative. Volvo and Audi is not a option.

X6 IS similar size, Noone says it isn't for europe?!
US allways get the best versions. They ca pay for it
Disappointing expensive for Europe, as most cars are now.

Ethically sensible
I say! Shame it costs a lot to spec it. Long live leather.
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. Please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: ua-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/v-deo.html
In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter.
If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: ua-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/v-deo.html
Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
And there are also new leatherette materials available which are superior in every aspect: ua-cam.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/v-deo.html
Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all it is just common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer.

Toyota spent a decent amount of money to bring it to Europe but the projected sales are probably pretty low therefore unit price has to go up.
