Analyzing Justin Fields' throwing mechanics | Chris Simms Unbuttoned | NFL on NBC
/ nflonnbc - Спорт
I feel so privileged to hear from the legend Chris Sims how to throw a football and a punch all in one video…
get over his throwing motion. kyler and mahomes has that whip like motion. it comes from playing baseball, so get used to it
Thank you
Much improved since college but as a Bears fan I want to see him tighten up that wind up a little bit more.
can't, that's his limit (sorry my dad doesn't understand this concept)
@@AbdelSibaran your dad makes sense, you not so much
Chris Simms was so amazing at QB, he can show us how it's done.
are you dumb??? Was Belicheck a great NFL player?? Whose the most popular QB whisperer I’m the league? Jordan Palmer. How was his career? How was Bill Walsh in the NFL? sounds like you don’t know anything. Besides, Simms was becoming he good starter in the league until he almost died losing his spleen
Yep, Belicheck was such a great nfl player right, literally the reason why he’s such a good coach. And Kyle shanahan who was Chris Simms WR in college that Chris was throwing too, he was a such a great WR in the league, and it’s why he’s one of the best offense play callers and offensive player development coaches in the league.
By that logic Wayne Gretzky should have been the best NHL coach ever (his record was 88-153-66)
😂
When? I live in Texas. He had the best talent at Texas & still wasn’t worth a damn.
Actually yes, the idea of trading Justin Fields did "Come out of nowhere".
Literally came from a TV personality
Yeah, real Bears fans knew they were never going to trade Justin.
It's like he learned to throw playing baseball as a kid.
The next stage of Fields' development is making correct decisions sooner.
Of course we also want to see the mechanical portion improve, but arm strength and accuracy aren't necessarily what kept rhe Bears' passing offense dead last in the NFL last year.
Edit; passing offense instead of just offense
lol we werent dead last in offense bro. we literally had the best rush attack
@@LesPronto dead last in passing offense, 5th worst in total offense.
@@thevoxdeus yeah passing offense for sure. It wasn’t even close lol. We stunk like hell. I do think fields is going to take that step of getting the ball out faster. I really hope he develops that same chemistry he has with Mooney with claypool and dj
Markell Fultz... this dude is a good thrower. He just needs to become more comfortable in the system and learn NFL open and a little bit more anticipation in throwing too receivers. But that come with being familiar and comfortable with the playbook and teammates.
lmao i just said that he's fultz, but no he's not a good passer and his yips will make him worse
Well said
This funny! They said the same about Josh Allen
It's hard not to lose faith in humanity after reading a UA-cam comments section >.
his throwing motion looks good, the season to make stuff up.. i remember last year the media had tape on Tua under throwing Tyreek Hill. And for weeks made stories about it. Silly Season in full swing.
tuahiga never had mechanical problem, he just doesn't throw the ball far and can't, basically a jimmy g. Fields not only have mechanical problem, he has footwork problem and can't throw with anticipation (cant read defenses)
@@AbdelSibaran i doesn’t matter what problem you perceive. Point is Tua was talked about at this time as being trash, and his WR would regret leaving KC. So whatever you perceive is Fields problem matters about as much as people arguing online 😂. The games and season will eventually start and things will unfold and prove you wrong (or right). But in that video his mechanics are fine. Also I remember a time when Tua told the media he didn’t study hard enough in his playbook with Flores and that was a thing. So miss me with the reading defense you pulled out your ass. 😂
@@AbdelSibaran
ua-cam.com/users/shortsjbYp8gkYYRI?feature=share
just type in Tua can’t throw or tua bad mechanics and you’ll go through a rabbit hole of youtube experts that said he was trash.
Even the most loyal Fields fan has to recognize that motion looks atypical
He has the same throw as Fields, Simms is just part of the Williams lobby trying to hype their boy
@@truijs65you know this was before the 2023 season right
I'm a huge Fields fan but Simms isn't wrong about his throwing mechanics. None of that matters if the kid can throw with rythem and within the timing of the offense.
No two people do the same exact things. Some athletes have a unique style. You witness this especially in Track and Field, where people commentators always trying to criticize their unorthodox running, jumping or throwing abilities. Jesse Owens and Michael Johnson, had very different running styles than track coaches teach. But, yet, they were great champions in the Olympics.
Everybody wants to bash Sims for actually breaking down Justin's real issues.
Say what you want but every QB that comes into the league has to work in throwing Mechanics it's just what it is.
Every QB, not some all. If your mechanics are off anything can happen when that ball is released good and bad. But all QBs want to take the guesswork out and actually place the ball where they intended.
Chris Simms…what an expert.
Phil rivers have to most unorthodox throwing motions but it hits the target.. JF wil be find he just need his wr to get separation
After that Buccs game, I wonder how Bears fans feel about Fields. Also, he just threw his coaches under the bus accurately.
I have been noticing the exaggerated elbow motion which brought me to this video. At times he looks like a shortstop throwing from deep in the hole. Coincidentally from what I understand he was a shortstop in high school. I’m watching Lamar Jackson as I write this and notice a similar motion but less exaggeration. Jackson also scrambles and as soon as he has space he’s back in a loaded motion. Sights up finger on the trigger. As he scrambles he’s always looking to get in a lock and loaded position. Justin at times gets sloppy with this. Football is a game of timing, space and anticipation. I feel like the exaggerated motion might be throwing off his perceived ability to read. That split second can often be the difference in making a read and throw vs making a read and the window closes. If he can make up the split second by fixing his mechanics I imagine the subconscious mind will make the timing/read adjustment.
😂actually that is how u throw a left hook with ur elbow up
not its not
I saw many times last year where Justine threw accurately and he didn't have anyone capable of catching. Either they couldn't get open or they just could catch a ball that was thrown right to them.
Chris Simms is an absolute dope
It doesn't matter how it looks and it looked good to me, as long as hes acurate its fine
I’m no QB expert but to me that looks like a great throwing motion. It’s much better than his rookie year for sure. The WB coach I’m sure is working with him to get the motion right.
No pass rush, easy when you can sit back and focus on each detail. In game is where the inconsistency happens
@@ericfichter5226 I’m sure with 2 years under his belt, he’ll be better. Some folks really don’t have patience when it comes to young QBs.
@syed quadri As long as he improves each year. He's fine, his breakout on the ground last year is enough to hold his spot. I think he's a better Lamar.
@@ericfichter5226 same.
I just wonder why our quarterback coaches aren’t addressing this if it’s a flaw in his game. Because Justin has had issues in short field accuracy and it feels that the elbow certainly can play a big factor in that.
Because Simms says it, you believe it is, huh? Wasn't Simms, one of the idiots saying Justin, was a last man in and first man out the gym? You believed that too, didn't you?
@@eddiejames9827 I know this is an old comment, but I never heard Simms say that about Fields for the gym part. But, after watching him play and continue to be trash every week, and seeing him on vacations all the time in his off season, i can TOTALLY see what Chris simms meant, and I entirely believe it. The fact that he caught that early on, makes him a lot more credible to me. Just because Simms didn't win 6 superbowl rings, doesn't make his opinion any less relevant. Chris Simms throwing motion was way better, and he was a better passer than Fields too. You're going to see the same thing happen to Justin Fields in Pittsburgh. He'll be there for just a few years until they draft or trade for a new QB. For Justin to work on a team as a passer, the WR's need to be a step or two ahead of the corners, wide as fuck open. That's the only way in the NFL. He was fine in college because the competition was below average. In that Ohio State game, one of the opponents best corners landed in the 6th round.
You know what Justin Fields is? He's like Tim Tebow. Even the javelin throwing motion is kinda close. Fields was always going to be a bust, primarily because of his below average ball placement. If you scroll through the shit Chris Sims said about Fields, he was very accurate.
It’s the number 1 criticism for black QBs
Chris Simms, a QB analyst. That's funny.
All he needs is a better offensive line and even one decent wide receiver. He'd be as good as Joe Burrow if he had 2 or 3 decent wide receivers.
Stop it
Here is how it should be done: ua-cam.com/video/0ViWaCVB3ng/v-deo.html
These same guys love Zach wilson and Mac jones mechanics
running back, better than me tho
better QB than you too lol
I can fit in a 30 min jog before his windup completes
He's no Aaron Rodgers with that wonky elbow
Im never going to agree with everything simms says but it gets real annoying in the comments when people bring up a persons career as a player to determine their value as an analyst
Well, if Simms, can nitpick about a qb, can't people nitpick about his nfl career?
It's like golf swing, learn to swing the club properly, them it's like see target hit target
@chris Simms why didn't you critique yourself , maybe you would've had a career in the NFL. Your opinion don't hold water
Love the Simms podcast. Seems good guy but respectfully,, please ask the new guy to stop answering his own questions. It’s Simms opinion we want.
If you looked at the top ten qbs of all time, they all are not cookie cutter perfect mechanics. Mechanics matter. But, in the analogies they are using…basketball and baseball has multiple games a week. Only one football game a week.
Phillip Rivers had one of the ugliest throwing motions I've ever seen and he was able to make it work.
Not trying to be that guy 😂.. but for some one that barely seen the field..I bet his throwing motion is what made him 3rd string on most maddens.
Gee thanks, Chris 🤨
😂 Chris Simms has NEVER been as good as Justin Fields.
Bro I was not ready for this 😂😪
He doesn't have to be. 🤦🏻♂️
He can talk, that's it supposedly a guro plz show me on tape Goofy JF1 BEARDOWN well be ok alright!
Guys don’t be mean. Chris wasn’t all that great at the NFL level but Fields hasn’t been either. He has 5 wins in 25 starts and averages 150 passing ypg on a horrible ypa and below 60% completion percentage. He’s legitimately the definition of a bust at the position, but he can run… and that bought him an extra year as a starter. He will not be a starter in the league next year, meet me back here in about 6-8 months if u disagree :)
@@TheKustms 😂😂😂😂 you're so lost
Your elbow is not in to throw anything except to worms
I see what Chris is saying, too much arm action rather than short and concise. You can have the greatest arm but if you have wasted motion you're gonna get picked off.
Name a QB who hasn't been picked off?
WHY THE FUCK DO WE HAVE TO HYPER-CRITIQUE EVERY SINGLE FUCKING THING!! IS EVERYBODY FUCKING PERFECT!!!!!
Chris - have you seen him throw at practice this week? He's one of the most accurate deep passers in the league. Relative to Justin Fields...what do you know, seriously? You're a rec league QB.
"deep passers" everyone can throw to an open man, can he throw in tight windows where its the bread and butter of nfl qb? NAH
This whole discussion is gonna look stupid by November
Why?
@@ngc-fo5te Because this is hyper May analysis for NFL off season talk. Bears biggest problem and Justins passing woes was not because of a slight hiccup in his release.
His deep ball in particular is fascinating, it really comes off his fingers pretty. It’s like an elite shooters stoke in a way. Hurts has the same thing.
If he can really shore up his short game to allow the deep ball to open, he’s gonna really be wowing. Which I think he will.
@@jacobmckenzie8793 I think he'll be mediocre and not the long term solution for the Bears.
I think if Caleb Williams was in the draft a couple of weeks back they'd have ditched Fields in a heartbeat. They couldn't have driven him to the airport fast enough.
@@ngc-fo5te well that’s in fairytale land and not reality.
@@jacobmckenzie8793 Well my first point, so far, has been true. Though to be honest he hasn't even been up to mediocre.
The second is not reality - but what they would have done in that hypothetical is not. There is not a chance in hell you don't dump fields if you could get Caleb Williams.
So no off line no real wr's you tell me what he was in college a passer he wasn't running that much in college just look at the tape
Chris simms was a terrible qb he hurt himself , by himself, and took himself out of the game after he went 3and out again
Who cares how Fields throw? Its pointless to "critique" on 💀
I always thought Fields whipped the ball funny. Chris described scientifically what I was seeing. It's the elbow flopping that looks unnatural. This is why he's so inconsistent and has accuracy issues.
Really? Now, explain him being the most accurate qb while in college? 😅
So Justin Fields is either a running back with a great arm or an inaccurate quarterback with wheels. The Bears traded Bryce Young, a natural thrower of the football, for this guy? There’s Caleb Williams in the 2024 draft but unfortunately no Lovie Smith to help you win the #1 pick. JoM
Chris Simms was a way better passer than Justin Fields
This is the type of content y'all are coming up with nowadays ? Y'all desperate
I have taught throwing mechanics for more years than simms has been alive and he is full of BS.
I know they are doing their job, but something has always rubbed me the wrong way when I see guys like Chris Simms, Sean Salisbury, Tim Hasselback and Trent Dilfer analyze these QB’s when they themselves never were good QB’s. If they know all this stuff why didn’t they do better?!
because they have physical and other limitations? why do failed boxers become trainers? why do failed players become HC? i hate ppl with shallow outlook
Cuz there are other factors that go into a player's success besides understanding the game, as well as some people are late bloomers and understand things better later in life.
What an utterly silly comment.
Exactly. Well said most of the time it Black quarterbacks. Yes I said it
Chris simms has never said a good thing about fields.
He is not an NFL qb
He literally is.
@@Jpope0528 OK correction...Fields is not skilled enough, accurate enough or quick enough in decision making to be a long-term solution as a starting NFL QB.
@G thanks for showing us how little you know about football 🤡
@@rcguy902 riiiighhttt and good luck with your delusion about Fields!
@@user-jc6pr5el5g it's fact not delusion little boy
As an Eagles fan, if Justin Fields fails to get the Bears to the playoffs in 2023 next season, then the team will part ways with him and will draft an QB in the 2024 NFL Draft like Grayson McCall from Coastal Carolina University since he has an great cannon of throwing the football, won alot of awards in college and got the team to the playoffs. Justin Fields isn't the QB the Bears were hoping for since the 2021 NFL Draft. Justin Fields hasn't played his best against other NFL teams so the Bears will let him go anyway and the team will draft Grayson McCall in the 2024 NFL Draft as their new starting QB in the 2024 season. Grayson McCall will be an perfect fit for the Bears. Justin Fields needs to go.
Justin Fields doesn't need to go. That's a stupid statement.
This is the stupidest thing I seen today including twitter. If the bears make the playoffs that’s cool and that would exceed expectations but as a bears fan 7 to 10 wins is the goal this season and be in the hunt by December and if they do that we’re on track then in 2024 is the year to push for a deep playoff run. It’ll be nice to make it to the playoffs especially in the weak nfc and I can see the bears pulling it off but if the bears don’t make it to the playoffs but is competitive and have a sub 500 record then Justin isn’t going anywhere
If you were the GM, you would've part ways with Jalen Hurts a long time ago with that kind of logic. Glad you aren't, right?
@@matterwelonz This exactly. Not that Eagles fans often get accused of being smart, but damn.
