- Time to strap on the spurs and up the challenge level on this ruleset. Absolute Emperor works okayish with Foot and Guns, but without Horse it's just not Napoleonics. Let's get crazy and do some charges.
Another great video. Rules Notes: Per the rules 1) "The Corps Commander (CC) controls the movement of all divisions within his corps. His figure moves in a straight line to his objective (see orders, page 15) if attacking, remaining motionless otherwise." 2) It is likely that the French cavalry could not charge the British line unit (at 12:31), as they would have to swing around the French line unit to do so, see page 23 under Charges: "All charge are measured directly ahead with no deviation or turns." 3) Also, per the British cavalry charge (at 13:27) charging is not mandatory, it is an option (it is a "may" not a "must," see Charges page 23). In addition, remember that infantry units on Defend orders may not charge (see page 16, under Defend/hold). 4) Per your confusion regarding what cavalry do after a charge (at approximately 16:20): see Post-Resolution Combat Results. Failing to best an opponent (p. 31) likely means that they have not destroyed the opponent (see page 32, read the first few bullet points). 5) At 23:03 you talk about a must charge situation. Again, charges are an option not a requirement. See above. [note that infantry units with defend orders can not charge. You would need to use and élan point to change them to an attack order to be able to charge]. 6) At approximately 24:07 you talk about moving the British CC who has defend orders. A commander on defend orders can not move. see page 14. 7) Again at 24:32 you talk about the French unit being 'obliged' to charge. See above comments. Charges are not mandatory. 9) 26:04 the British CC can not move on hold orders, see comments above. 10) Cavalry can only enter a BUA in March Order (page 12). 37:35
It is great watching you play through these scenarios...you are learning the game...we are also learning the game, and we are all making mistakes along the way. The main thing is that it is great craic!!!
This rule set is a lot of fun...irrespective of any errors we make with the rules along the way...I am looking forward to when you get to demo Waterloo!!! Keep it going.
That was a lot of fun to watch as the French seize Victory from the jaws of Defeat, as their Cavalry saunter into Bumville! (Doing, no doubt, their best Maurice Chevalier laugh impression... Oah, oah, oah!) Although I will admit that I am a little disappointed that the 2mm version of the Lanciers De Post-Its did not make an appearance! The next Battle Of Bumville... with the different qualities of infantry AND at least one Grand Battery should prove to be just as instructive as the previous encounters. Keeping the units within the Corps Commander's range is a lot more of a challenge that it appears at first glance!
once again- mr. wargaming makes it easy to learn a new system with a series of awesome videos- thanks!
The napoleonic war drags on - the battle of Bumviile will go down in history
At 2:05. Given all 3 stands are in the same division in these rules - it seems if ANY part of the division is within 4" command distance, then the FULL division is automatically within command control. That is pretty consistent in most rules - and naturally makes it easier to keep divisions under control, given the very short 4" leash.
Yes, the buys you a lot more room. With four stands in a cavalry unit you could conceivably get one stand that's about 8 in away. That's still pretty tight, but it does allow you to get multiple corps on to a 3X3 table.
It was interesting to see the "mirroring" that can often develop in solo gaming when you play both sides, with the development of the squares. I felt like the allied commander looked rather exposed, close to the French square. I'm unfamiliar with the rules but I did wonder whether a valid COA would have been to scamper across and engage him?
Nice crescendo from the number 1. Cavalry use if timed right ( as it should ) is pretty devastating ( I suspect even more if you catch them on disorganized status ). Nice battle.
Been keeping an eye out for this.
There is a better qrs on the Facebook page
All the best QRSes seem to be there.
