  • This was recorded from the Treasure Planet BD disc via an old PlayStation 3, which used a composite analog (CVBS) signal for video output, as well as the analog stereo LR audio channels for audio output, which was fed into a Panasonic S-VHS VCR, onto an S-VHS format tape (TDK XP Super Pro tape stock), in anamorphic (16:9) widescreen mode (as set in the PS3 video output settings, and as set in the S-VHS VCR settings, to ensure true widescreen playback. I then fed the recording of the Y/C (S-Video) color-under signal encoded on the S-VHS tape from the component signal output of the S-VHS VCR into a Digital Betacam multiformat playback VCR, which transformed the signal from analog Y/B-Y/R-Y (YPbPr) format into an SD-SDI signal containing 720x486/10-bit/4:2:2-'Y'Cb'Cr/59.94i converted material, which also had 3:2-telecined material from the 23.98p .m2ts stream on the Treasure Planet Blu-ray disc that was performed in realtime during playback from the PS3 in analog NTSC output mode (525/2:1/59.94).
The signal was captured via the SD-SDI output into an AJA Kona 3 capture card, upconverted in realtime to a 1920x1080/10-bit/4:2:2-'Y'Cb'Cr/59.94i uncompressed format and wrapped in a .MP4 file container with digital stereo audio embedded in 24-bit/48 kHz LPCM format. I imported this file into an NLE, performed a 3:2 detelecine with a field offset of 3, to generate true 23.98p material from a 59.94i source, and then rendered the final video in HDR using MPEG-4/H.264 (AVC) encoding in High10 4:2:0/4:0:2 10-bit format. This is the end result.
