Mr. Fox and my father were friends when I was a little girl. I used to love listening to that wonderful voice and it brings back sweet memories when I do.
I loved Noel's voice. I heard The Oaks in person a couple of times when Noel was still singing with them. Richard Sterban may sing lower than Noel, but Noel had more range and a smoother voice.
Noel was a great bass. He had such a mellow voice. I saw them at the Harrisburg Farm Show Arena at an all-night-sing. JD and the Stamps were there also back in 1970.
I thought Noel was terrific also, that smooth melodic bass voice. Listen to "the son shines down on me" this was my favorite oaks line up as much as I like the others
Mark is my step-dad...and a TRUE LEGEND!! I wish THESE GUYS would have stayed together after the "split." They would have done great....LOTS of talent right here!!
Are you talking about when William Lee Golden left for almost a decade? If there was a split up of the group, I never heard about it. I'm so young in my age range, but got to love the oaks. What split are you talking about anyway (if there was one)?
@@downtownjerrybrown6053 Willie Wynn and Mark left about the same time and the new bass and tenor came in. Golden did not leave for almost a decade after this
I hadn't heard this version by the Oaks, and had forgotten just how much range Noel Fox had. It's a shame that he didn't 'fit in' with the group...if things had happened a little sooner for them, he would probably have been encouraged to stay with them. Nothing against Sterban, but Fox was there when they got their first Dove award.
Wow, he was good. This is the first time I have ever really seen and heard him. I think Richard is definitely lower but Noel has a better voice. Does anyone know where I can read and learn more about him?

Wow! Noel has such a smooth voice for a bass.
Noel Fox sang with so much soul that came from deep down within him. It wasn't anything "for show". It was honest, pure and heartfelt.

Noel was great. One of my favorite singers. Thanks Dean.

Good video and good quartet...love this beautiful song.
Great song.
I loved his bass lines on Jesus Walked All The Way. He nailed the bass on it! It was the first song on a record called Performance.
The Oaks do a great job on this song.

Google his name!
The forgotten bass from Oak Ridge Boys...
Do you know what year this video is from Dean?
Noel was in the group from 1969-1972. My guess would be 1971 or 72 before Richard Sterban came over from The Stamps Quartet
Fox can't get as "smooth" low as Sterban, but he's a better bass singer, I believe.
