I don't think it's just about the conversation, it's the possibility of conflict. I am a follower of Milena (and a few other christian influencers) and what I find fascinating is their desire for peace and harmony. On some level most of us strife for peace in our lives, but only few go so far as to avoid anything that could possibly lead to a disagreement, let alone an argument. And if you whatch Milena's videos, she talks about that one of her biggest struggles in life were the first years of marriage when she "wouldn't submit or tame her tongue" (her words). I think that people like Milena take the easy route. It is easier to submit, close your eyes, pray to God, easier at least than to face your fears, have the fight, talk through the argument. Watching Milena's videos, she seems more at peace now. And this is the danger of the conservative movement: it provides you with a sense of peace. People are not conservatives just because they are dumb, mean, lacking of education etc., but because it makes them experience more peace, happiness, content. Based on my observation of my parents' marriage, and the marriages at church, I came to the conclusion that everyone in a marriage is a little miserable, but that's just being married. Im a catholic woman and was with a « traditional » guy during two months this year. It was my worst dating experience. He put so much pressure on me and made us fall into the sin-repent-sin-repent cycle. I did not have any kind of shame related to intimacy before him. Staying with him would have meant that I would have had to abandon my voice, my individuality, would have had to basically sacrifice my heart and my soul. There’s so much repression in these relationships. The woman is meant to disappear and to be silent (praying lol). Sometimes I think these people are not mature, have no experiences outside of church, don’t have a real identity outside of Christ and they force themselves into these relationships with all these rules. They are afraid of themselves, repress things. Their white interior shows an absence of personality and a will to constantly appear as white doves. Now I see that as highly suspicious. I would prefer to remain alone with a bunch of birds than getting married with these parameters.

Ex Christian here who is also aroace. Everything spoken by the Christian couple is what I heard in the church. The pressure placed on women in every aspect over men was extremely common. As a minor, abstinence and purity was manditory because that should be reserved for your husband. Women were expected to do everything in a relationship. On a practical note: If you ever do think about coming out when you go to college I would weigh how much financial support you get from your parents, the potential of them withdrawing that support, how much that would affect you, and if that’s worth being able to openly do as you please. Even in college I have friends who really rely on their parents and they would be devastated if that support was withdrawn but I also have friends who would be fine without it.

They understood it wrong and out of context and now you picked it up wrong aswell..as to what Milena was referring to by saying you should pray instead of picking on your significant other, was that praying helps to take the momentum anger away and after you can talk things out calmly and more reflected (you can't tell me you never had moments you acted out of anger and didn't regret saying things after). And then to what her husband meant(which is referring not to a specific situation). He's basically just saying that praying for your wife and family is something that bonds you together since you share the faith and love in God. He never said he expects her to pray for him or anything like that. I think you probably never experienced a religious household but since I was little I had my family pray for me whenever I was Ill or was stressed anxious and I did the same for them whenever they were going through a bad time. Praying is never and nowhere an obligation. I hope you can understand it better now:)

I'm an athiest and so is my wife. We haven't been 'physically intimate' beyond hugging or the occasional kiss in 13 YEARS (we've been married 15 and I've known her for 20) and we have an AMAZING relationship. I'm asexual and didn't really figure that out until we'd been married for a bit but once I realized that I didn't /have to/ be sexually intimate with her or anyone else in order to maintain my relationship it was like a weight was lifted from my shoulders and I could finally just relax. It was wonderful. Sometimes she talks about wanting to find someone (we're poly and open) to be sexual with and I always encourage that but she's never, ever pressured me or even spoken suggestively about sex to me since we sat down and talked it through 13 years ago. I like to call our relationship "Platonic Romantic" because we're best friends who love each other but we're not what most people think of when they think of a married couple. I get super weird looks if I try explaining it to someone but I wouldn't have it any other way and I've never been happier or more at peace with anyone than I am with her.

I am a devout Christian, but I really appreciated watching this and looking at how traditional norms can sometimes be harmful. It's good for me to expose myself to the ideas of people who are not religious. There are definitely aspects of this that I am taking into account for personally understanding what I would like to have in a future marriage, along with being in a agreement with you guys on some teachings that might not be healthy or productive. ♥ love!

The part that got me was when they talked about him taking the kids out. She said that she can do the dishes in quiet when he does that. He THEN said that when he does that, she can put her feet up for an hour. What happened to that first tip of listening to her? So, this doesn't apply only to your husband, but any man in your life, according to christianity I guess (my family is protestant). My brother was agressive verbally and physically, not only to me but also my mother! I got out of the house but my mom would not kick him out and I'm just done trying to make her see the abusive relationship she is in but nope... He's almost 35 and still lives in her house! I think its important to say too that "Notice the little things" is gonna vary within any relationship, if your partner is autistic for example (like me) theres a chance they might miss some things and you can't hold that against them every time. You can ask that they try to improve (within reason), and you can be affected by it and say that, but being poor at noticing social queues can be an actual diagnosis, and theres only so much you can do at times. About that going to bed at the same time thing: I've been in a relationship for 15.5 years and married for almost a year now, and my husband and I almost never sleep in the same bed (maybe like 10 times per year). First of all, we have completely different sleeping cycles, with me going to bed way earlier and also getting up at like 5 to 5:30 am every morning. And second of all, I hate sharing my bed, even with my spouse. We still have a strong and stable marriage.

I just realised that you two have a kind of similar format to many of these Christian couples in sitting down and discussing relationships/marriage and what works and how you should treat each other and I remember how people told Drew (and I think Taylor too but I can't remember?) how he should become a pastor or Christian counsellor or something and he really considered it. So right now thinking of this format and how evangelical church (small groups etc) would function with a "leader" who is basically your equal but mentors you (and keeps you "accountable" lol). I don't think it's just about the conversation, it's the possibility of conflict. I am a follower of Milena (and a few other christian influencers) and what I find fascinating is their desire for peace and harmony. On some level most of us strife for peace in our lives, but only few go so far as to avoid anything that could possibly lead to a disagreement, let alone an argument. And if you whatch Milena's videos, she talks about that one of her biggest struggles in life were the first years of marriage when she "wouldn't submit or tame her tongue" (her words).
I think that people like Milena take the easy route. It is easier to submit, close your eyes, pray to God, easier at least than to face your fears, have the fight, talk through the argument. Watching Milena's videos, she seems more at peace now.
And this is the danger of the conservative movement: it provides you with a sense of peace. Im a catholic woman and was with a « traditional » guy during two months this year. It was my worst dating experience. He put so much pressure on me and made us fall into the sin-repent-sin-repent cycle. I did not have any kind of shame related to intimacy before him.
Staying with him would have meant that I would have had to abandon my voice, my individuality, would have had to basically sacrifice my heart and my soul. There’s so much repression in these relationships. The woman is meant to disappear and to be silent (praying lol).
Sometimes I think these people are not mature, have no experiences outside of church, don’t have a real identity outside of Christ and they force themselves into these relationships with all these rules. They are afraid of themselves, repress things. Their white interior shows an absence of personality and a will to constantly appear as white doves. Now I see that as highly suspicious. I would prefer to remain alone with a bunch of birds than getting married with these parameters.

Women being more "emotionally observant" could be because 1) It's expected of them to do all this emotional labour and 2) people put in a subservient or oppressed role by society tend to be tone-policed a whole lot and conditioned to walk on eggshells and pander to other people. What I find most troubling about this advice is how it infantilizes the husband. Christianity forces its worshippers into childish subservience as it posits that everyone is god's child. But think of how a woman treats a baby. She feeds, clothes and burps it. She wipes its bottom, cleans and nurtures it and does it all with no expectation of reciprocity. Ex Christian here who is also aroace. Everything spoken by the Christian couple is what I heard in the church. The pressure placed on women in every aspect over men was extremely common. As a minor, abstinence and purity was manditory because that should be reserved for your husband. Women were expected to do everything in a relationship. Even in college I have friends who really rely on their parents and they would be devastated if that support was withdrawn but I also have friends who would be fine without it.

He's basically just saying that praying for your wife and family is something that bonds you together since you share the faith and love in God. He never said he expects her to pray for him or anything like that. I think you probably never experienced a religious household but since I was little I had my family pray for me whenever I was Ill or was stressed anxious and I did the same for them whenever they were going through a bad time. I'm an athiest and so is my wife. We haven't been 'physically intimate' beyond hugging or the occasional kiss in 13 YEARS (we've been married 15 and I've known her for 20) and we have an AMAZING relationship. I'm asexual and didn't really figure that out until we'd been married for a bit but once I realized that I didn't /have to/ be sexually intimate with her or anyone else in order to maintain my relationship it was like a weight was lifted from my shoulders and I could finally just relax. It was wonderful. Sometimes she talks about wanting to find someone (we're poly and open) to be sexual with and I always encourage that but she's never, ever pressured me or even spoken suggestively about sex to me since we sat down and talked it through 13 years ago. I like to call our relationship "Platonic Romantic" because we're best friends who love each other but we're not what most people think of when they think of a married couple. I get super weird looks if I try explaining it to someone but I wouldn't have it any other way and I've never been happier or more at peace with anyone than I am with her.

I am a devout Christian, but I really appreciated watching this and looking at how traditional norms can sometimes be harmful. It's good for me to expose myself to the ideas of people who are not religious. There are definitely aspects of this that I am taking into account for personally understanding what I would like to have in a future marriage, along with being in a agreement with you guys on some teachings that might not be healthy or productive. ♥ love!

The part that got me was when they talked about him taking the kids out. She said that she can do the dishes in quiet when he does that. He THEN said that when he does that, she can put her feet up for an hour. What happened to that first tip of listening to her? As a 63 year old woman who has been married to the same man for 28 years, I don't think I have enough experience to give other people marriage advice, because every couple is different. What works for my husband and I may send other couples to divorce court. Each couple just needs to find what works for them.

About that going to bed at the same time thing: I've been in a relationship for 15.5 years and married for almost a year now, and my husband and I almost never sleep in the same bed (maybe like 10 times per year). First of all, we have completely different sleeping cycles, with me going to bed way earlier and also getting up at like 5 to 5:30 am every morning. And second of all, I hate sharing my bed, even with my spouse. We still have a strong and stable marriage.
"Women are very emotionally observant". Maybe some but not all. Personalities don't go along with your sex. I hate how so many religious people think that being female means that you must have all of these female personality traits. That's one of the many reasons why my dad could never get along with his daughters. He had a preconceived and unchanging idea of what they must be like. I told him that really wasn't me but he'd just laugh and go on with his assumptions.

That’s a great recommendation! That book was responsible for a lot of bullshit in my parents and grandparents generations, and I’d love to see a takedown of it from Taylor! (And possibly Drew too? I don’t understand why Christians and Muslims don’t like one another, they are basically the same thing. But, it gives me hope knowing women and queers have more right among Christian majority countries, hopefully it will soon be the case in Islamic countries! Of ourse the best scenario be a religion free society but that’s just too hopeful.

Of course he approaches this in gender essentialist terms. He says this about women as if being emotionally in touch with themselves and others is an exclusively feminine trait. So he doesn't interrogate in the slightest why he believes that men are intrinsically incapable or stunted in this regard.
Thus his advice has absolutely nothing to do with actual empathy; its all about surface level aesthetic and materialistic things, like noticing her new haircut or new clothes.
But perhaps if he keeps going, he'll begin to interrogate why he believes these things, and why the religious systems he is within WANT him to believe these things. Why do they care so little about his development into a well-adjusted, balanced and emotionally healthy adult human being?
Can I just say, your channel is a breath of fresh air. I’ve deconstructed myself not as much from christianity, but from New Age dogma (which is similar). now as an agnostic, I really appreciate and stand by logic, critical thinking, progressive values, tolerance, embracing feminism, disestablishment of colonialism and harmful patriarchal beliefs, etc. This rhetoric they are pushing is so harmful, and I see it everywhere. But channels like yours really give me hope in humanity ❤

I just realised that you two have a kind of similar format to many of these Christian couples in sitting down and discussing relationships/marriage and what works and how you should treat each other and I remember how people told Drew (and I think Taylor too but I can't remember?) how he should become a pastor or Christian counsellor or something and he really considered it.
So right now thinking of this format and how evangelical church (small groups etc) would function with a "leader" who is basically your equal but mentors you (and keeps you "accountable" lol).
The format is almost like you two are actually like the opposite goal of church leaders (yours is deconstruction and de-indoctrination rather than reassuring people to keep following the teachings) but the format at least feels like a kind of "mentoring" or "leading" role for us via your platform similarly to those Christian videos where a couple takes on a guiding role (and you are sharing 10 years of marriage experience)... so.. since you're not pastors, Taylor your channel is more like... the ANTIPASTOR!(pronounced "antipasta"). 😉
