The lead singer lady, she wheels out this tall mirror, and everyone can see that it is a mirror, but with some slight of hand tricks, a look alike/twin of the singer jumps out with inverted colors of the outfit that they're wearing and they do some cool stuff or whatever.

A lot of people argue about whether this is about DID or BPD (Bipolar Disorder) But with us being a DID system we definitely relate to this a lot, especially the beginning describes dissociating pretty well. Our threat isn't invisible right now but people might suffer flashbacks. And when faced with extremely stressful situations, we often find ourselves switching - different alters could perhaps be described like different channels on TV. They display different things, at different times, have different times, but it all comes out of the same TV. Two alters switching with different personalities can feel like your brain is switching between black and white and definitely feels strange. Our most prominent example of this was when our abuser was leaning over us, and shouting, and we cycled so fast that we looked absolutely psychotic just switching between sobbing and yelling "I'M SORRY" and pushing themselves into the corner and the other angrily yelling insults telling them to fuck off basically, and the two were both using the body for it... Now I'd also like to explain that normally one takes the head appearance of us - not clothing or makeup, but how we act and react to things, speaking, texting, etc, instead of multiple alters talking at once and trying to handle it. It ends up in us usually sounding pretty consistent and the differences in typing style usually get passed as being in a different mood. If two people are in front we're used to one being in the "passenger seat" aka watching things happen. I just want people to pay attention to know how terrible it feels and how far we were pushed for the person in the "passenger seat" to come out too and start shouting just trying to protect ourselves. And with that I also want to urge people to never "fakeclaim" systems. We're fake claimed a lot because we intake a lot of media and therefore have a lot of introjects/fictives (alters based off people or characters from pieces of media). We experience so much pain and it doesn't help that just because we have them we're assumed to be a fake. And since medical sources like to perpetuate stereotypes on DID, here's how to make your loved ones with the disorder comfortable. - If your loved one comes out to you as being a system, STAY CALM. Alters are NOT dangerous, they are a sign of prolonged childhood trauma and they're people just like you. The only way they're going to lash out is if you provoke them, just like a normal person. - Ask them if they're comfortable with you asking who's fronting and their pronouns when you meet or if they're uncomfortable with that and want to be called by a collective name and pronouns. - If someone brings up that they're an introject and it's a source you know, DO NOT bring that up. Also don't fangirl over them. Just treat them like people. It makes us so uncomfortable when people claim to recognize our sources or go "OMG you're ??!?!?" (It IS ok to give compliments; but remember introjects are not their source and while every system is different, this behavior makes us extremely uncomfortable.) - Ask if they're ok with you treating every one of their alters as your friend or if they want you to treat each alter as a new person. If they want you to do the latter, DON'T get pissy about it. It's for comfort reasons. - Since DID is a trauma disorder, you may want to ask your friend if they have any triggers. This will help you avoid topics that gives them panic attacks. - Like with C-PTSD, people with DID can go nonverbal from stress and anxiety, or randomly. They can also start dissociating. It might be a good idea to work out a signal for them to use towards you if they go nonverbal. - If you're not already on Discord, the site has a bot called Pluralkit where alters can set up fake profiles proxied by the bot with their own avatar and name attached to it. Suggest this. It can help with dissociation and identity crisis, and it's also a good tool for keeping track of switches should your friend take a liking to Discord/Pluralkit. - Sometimes certain alters will be a different age than your friend, or they may be nonverbal by nature. Or they might have triggers specific to only them. Ask them for this information. - Just remember communication and support is important. If you don't know how to help, ask them what would help them. It's ok to ask a lot of questions because you're trying to help them. Keep in mind they might not like certain terms used for them (for example we hate being called "personalities") and there might just be something that you don't like. It's important to stay with them and NEVER ever abandon or break up with someone because they have the disorder.
