Yes so true, and a lot of OEM PC's from old office buildings can be purchased for £60 or so and have the GPU and CPU upgraded for a cheap and surprisingly capable gaming PC
Please don't use MSAA in CPU testing - it stresses the GPU and has nothing to do with CPU performance. Could cause bottleneck on GPU side. If you don't get higher FPS on OC'd CPU, you have GPU bottleneck.
I hope this channel keeps on growing, because the vast majority of us are low and medium budget gamers. I also love learning new stuff and seeing how old parts compare with the new releases. Great videos!
Bought my i5 2500k approx. 3-4 years ago and on 4.0 Ghz undervolted to 1.16v (it can do 4.6 Ghz on 1.34v but there is no need to push it higher than 4 GHZ at the moment) still plays newest games on ultra! The only things that i changed was adding SSD for OS, 8gigs of RAM to 12 and GPU from hd 7850 to r9 280x ;) This CPU was best choice in my entire life ;)
I have a GTX 1060 6GB, 2500k (At 4.5GHz) and 16GB DDR3 1600MHz. This chip is still kicking at stays under 60 degrees celsius with a hyper 212 Plus playing Battlefield 1 at Ultra. (Very CPU demanding.) If you have this CPU, do not worry about upgrading anytime soon.

I'm still packing the 2500K's bigger brother, thei5 3570K, runs reasonable at standard clock speed. CBA overclocking. Will definitely be looking to upgrade in the next 12 months though!
I'm glad you specified which ram you were using. Back in the day ram speeds didn't matter much and I settled for the cheapo 1333mhz Kingston 2x4gb kit. Digital Foundry tested 2500k ram speeds last year and found that it now needs faster ram to perform at peak speeds. So I bought a 2133mhz kit (DDR3 are pretty cheap) and it did help, especially with framedrops and minimum framerates. The memory controller on my 2500k does not like 2133mhz though, so I also settled for 1866mhz. Thanks for the video
The 2500k CPU and an overclock-able motherboard was the reason behind future proofing in your previous video. The overclock ability was over 1.2Ghz stable even though it's a 3.7Ghz boost. Loved the FPS of 60+ and beyond! You don't see that much of an oveclock with Intel CPU's nowadays. Now I run a 3770K as it has more threads and cache. After some fine tuning I have it up to 4.75Ghz for the past 4 years. Thank you for making this video.
I'm in the 2600k group, and it has been running at 4.5Ghz stable since late 2011! My video card, the Radeon HD6970, is still running strong too, but newer cards could certainly show their benefits, whereas any new CPU benefits just aren't eye popping enough to get me to consider a new platform.
I'm running basically the same setup (2500k at 4.5ghz and gtx 1060 3gb) and I play at 1080p. This combo plays everything at high/ultra settings with over 60ps easily. I plan to hold onto my 2500k for at least another year until I feel the need to upgrade. Killer CPU!
I've got my 2500k at 4.5 GHz as well and I agree with everything presented here and more. This CPU still carries it's weight in 2018 and when paired with a 1070, the only game I've seen be really bottlenecked by it was BF1. Even then, it's not a constant choke and I can still enjoy fairly smooth 60fps at 1080p with only minor stutters occasionally. All high/very high video settings. Long live the 2500k!
I''m still using the i5 2400 and it has not let me down yet. I can still play all modern games on the same settings and framerate as with higher end cpu's (a little lower fps, like 2 fps).
Been using my i7 2600K since 2011. Never seen reason to upgrade as it has clearly stood the test of time and is still more than any game needs. I can't really imagine upgrading out of this until Intel moves onto another architecture.
I have the i5 2400, great CPU. However I saw your recent review on that new Pentium with Hyper Threading, and AFAIK it can match this i5. Which is great for anyone looking at building a new system.
I had a I5 750 just untill november last year. Overclocked to 3,2 Ghz it was enough for most games. Fallout 4 ran with 40+ FPS on the high preset at 1080p, plus some adjustments. It ran on an old P7P55d mainboard with a GTX 660 TI and 16GB ram. I upgraded only because I wanted some more power for videos and streams. The I5 750 worked for about ~7 years.
i bought an i7 2600k in august 2015 when it was already 4 years old, and now its almost 1.5 years later and this CPU still has the power to run all of my games even maxed out - only in some few new games i need to reduce some settings to get 60 fps, but when you consider the age of this hardware, thats very impressive (i run my 2600k @4,5GHz by the way)
THank you so much for this, I Was considering an fx 8300 for around 100 bucks, but found this review, the i5-2500k is literally 60 bucks right now, and it out performs it by a long run, I know what I'm getting now.
RGHD!!! Love the content you're coming out with!! Some of the hardware you review is actually still stuff I'm using at the moment lol! Currently rocking a OC'ed Core 2 Quad. A video idea, perhaps Current GPU pairings with older CPUs? Not sure if it's something you've already done but it'd be awesome to see what older platforms can rock with the current market! Cheers! Keep up the awesome work!
Yes, thank you for doing this video! Was waiting all this time for this :) im also running the i5, also overclocked. Still capable of running anything you want, play all games, and with a modern graphics card, should give this pc another 3 years to live... I just need to save up and buy a gtx 1060 soon...
Old processors are in general very underrated, i made a system six months ago with a i7 2600k, and i do not regret gettting it, since it is a beast for the price :D
I still have this processor in my second computer with a gtx970. Still works great and can run most games at highest settings at 1080p. One of the best buys I ever made in regards to technology.
I run a i5 2500 (non-k) with a gtx 660 and it runs very well, although I don't run the latest games, games from a couple of years ago run great: Shadow of Mordor, Batman Arkham Origins, Sniper Elite 3, Splinter Cell Blacklist all run quite well
Great to see it still runs very good. I'm using i5 2300 and I can say that I'm still satisfied with it. I could probably push it even more by upgrading my GPU which is XFX HD 7770. But it's totally alright for now. And yeah, I got it like one year ago for around 80$, since I was coming from a single core Celeron and I was on a tight budget.
A legendary CPU, best one I've ever had. Still have it since 2012, just clocked it to 4.5Ghz with a decent 212 Evo cooler and I don't feel I need an upgrade yet.
I have this CPU at 4GHZ and I love it. Paired with a 7970, old but still playing everything at 1080p really well! Next upgrade will proably be Zen in 2018 or something. I'm in no rush to upgrade this beast of a chip!
Still running the 2500k @ 4.2GHz on air cooling with 8 GB RAM and dual GTX 970s. I have absolutely no problems in any game on 1080p with High to Ultra settings. And since I'm not planning to upgrade to 1440p, 144hz or even 4k any time soon I'm probably gonna rock this chip for the next few years.
I still got that CPU and it's terrific. Got a nice cooler for it and set the turbo clock to 4 GHz. Barely any game maxes this thing out! ♥ This is the only hardware purchase I never regretted, not even for a single second.
If you are going for OC and good bargains - take a look at the i5 750! It was an awesome CPU. I got to run it on 3,5 GHz at all 4 cores on air cooling (norm. 2.66 GHz)... ebay shows them for only 15-30 Euro - which is quite a nice price... Mainboards go from 35-60€ - so you can get quite a nice package for only the price of the sandy bridge CPU - maybe worth a look!
just picked one of these up for £53 for my girlfriends build and a gtx 970 for £130 and couldnt be more pleased with the price to performance of the whole build. It's a great time to be buying these parts for a budget build :)
Running My i5 2500k now for 6 years at 4.5 Ghz almost 24/7. Can be pushed to 5Ghz but i keep it toned back a bit due to temps. I have it paired up with my R9 390 and it still runs like a beast. Hard to believe i started out with a GTS 450, then 2x GTS 450s, to a 7870 up to an R9 390 and the CPU is still chugging along nicely. If Ryzen lives up to the hype i'll be very tempted to make the jump to the AM4 platform. If not looks like it'll be kaby lake or possibly the next gen of Intel.
this channel is great, very educational, and entertaining as well. keep the good work up.

Personally i'd argue that the LGA1155 is the best line of CPU's to buy into on a budget
Epecially because the intel 3000 series is also on the lga 1155 platform, if you really want to squeeze some extra juice out of that platform.
Yes so true, and a lot of OEM PC's from old office buildings can be purchased for £60 or so and have the GPU and CPU upgraded for a cheap and surprisingly capable gaming PC
No, the LGA 1150 uses the 4000 series. I'd know, I have one.
they´re both, haswell and broadwell on the 1150 socket
PeanutButterSavage I assumed he ment LGA1155, as it does support the 3xxx series
Please don't use MSAA in CPU testing - it stresses the GPU and has nothing to do with CPU performance. Could cause bottleneck on GPU side. If you don't get higher FPS on OC'd CPU, you have GPU bottleneck.
I think he was testing to see how well the cpus handle with everything maxed out - presuming both cpu's have MSAA, its not a problem/
kratzeni Why not? I don't follow.
Assuming you're going to max settings with a similar ranged gpu, its a more realistic test, isn't it?
Violent higher settings are more GPU stressing, making a graphics card bottleneck more likely

Forgot to mention that if you disable the integrated CPU graphics in the bios you get higher overclocks.
Another great video on older parts. Love your vids 😆😆😆
After watching a lot of videos I finally saw how this man looks, and that was pretty cool. Keep up the good work man! :)
I'm liking the mix of game footage and face cam footage.
I have the i5 2400, great CPU. However I saw your recent review on that new Pentium with Hyper Threading, and AFAIK it can match this i5. Which is great for anyone looking at building a new system.
No, it can't match this i5. Not even close.
He reviewed it on the weekend, take a look, I think these new Pentiums will be the next budget CPUs to get.
Hmmmm so my overclocked i7-4790k should last me for some time. Love the video's. If only I found your channel sooner before I dropped 2k on a pc
hey dude great videos ive been watching u since along time and just to says thank u for that :D
greets from germany
Your video output is amazing :)
This video is great! My friend used this CPU for years and it never failed him :)
AMAZING VIDEO!!! i5 2500k still impressive!
i bought an i7 2600k in august 2015 when it was already 4 years old, and now its almost 1.5 years later and this CPU still has the power to run all of my games even maxed out - only in some few new games i need to reduce some settings to get 60 fps, but when you consider the age of this hardware, thats very impressive (i run my 2600k @4,5GHz by the way)
I watch all your videos !! Great content mate !!
You were featured on awesome hardware! Those noobs didn't even knew about the g4560 haha
Still have this running in my system from 2011 and it's running like a charm
Yes, thank you for doing this video! Was waiting all this time for this :) im also running the i5, also overclocked. Still capable of running anything you want, play all games, and with a modern graphics card, should give this pc another 3 years to live... I just need to save up and buy a gtx 1060 soon...
Old processors are in general very underrated, i made a system six months ago with a i7 2600k, and i do not regret gettting it, since it is a beast for the price :D
i5 2400 second hand owner here!! amazing cpu
I still have this processor in my second computer with a gtx970. Still works great and can run most games at highest settings at 1080p. One of the best buys I ever made in regards to technology.
I've got an i7 2600k in my Sandy Bridge rig and it's a beast of a processor.
Can confirm good chip! Still running my i5 2500k with a GTX 970FTW and going strong.
This is the only hardware purchase I never regretted, not even for a single second.
Nice video mate! I would suggest testing battlefield 4 or battlefield 1 for future videos :)
bro your videos are entertaining with some knowledge so keep up the good work
great content, subbed, ty for making videos!
