  • In this video, I discuss a random comic book thought I had recently while visiting a local comic shop here in Minnesota. Are comic book run packs a clever or sneaky way for comic book shops to unload some of their non-key issue inventory by bundling them with key issues?

I've picked up mini series this way from my LCS. I agree with how it's a toss up with not being able to see condition of everything. Once I bought a full run on ebay but had pics of everything.

For sure. It is definitely an easy way to get a full run of comics if that is what you are looking for. I also recently bought a full run of Fairest on Ebay. The comics were all in very good condition.

I don't think there's anything sneaky about it. Individual issues from a mini-series can be really difficult to sell, especially if they are non-keys. By selling them as a bundle they are appealing to the completionist, or to someone who simply may want to read the entire story.

I absolutely agree. I don't think I did a very good job clarifying in the video that I don't think they are doing anything wrong. By "sneaky," I mean it in a good way for them to move their excess inventory. I think it is a good way for comic shops to get rid of their less desirable/non-key inventory. As I discussed in a recent video that many shops have a TON of comic back issues collecting dust because of their prices. That they should lower prices or do something to move it. Putting together full run bundles is a good way to do so. My only real gripe with run packs is not being able to evaluate the condition of all the books before purchasing them. Thanks for you comments. :)
