Much better Alex, nice one. I always glue the rocker cover gasket to the cover, it saves so much faffing about getting the bone-shaped gasket to sit nicely on a rectangular head. 😆
FYI, I swapped a twin SU set up on my Midget 1275 for a Metro Turbo inlet manifold and single HIF carb. It ran like a dog until I swapped the needle. Sorry cant remember what I swapped it too. I think I got the info from Idle Chatter the 1100 magazine.
Well done you🎉, sometimes walking away and refreshing your brain is the right thing to do. Interesting variations in bodywork colour, almost like he was stored under car port with both ends sticking out.
I find that SU carburettor needs to have the dash pot filled with a bit of oil; our Lady Alex explained the reason to me why it needs to be filled. The poor Riley does sound a bit rough, especially at idle, but I know you will get that all sort in time! Is the suspension Hydrolastic or Hydrogas? If I could ever afford an Austin America (I believe here in the US it was only a 2 door import) I would love to own one; one for sale, an automatic, blue. Static three point seat belts. The suspension needs sorting, it looks just like the Riley. And these classic Austin's are extremely rare, especially here in the US! Another excellent job Alex!
Its had a later Metro engine with HIF carb fitted. Yes out of the factory it would have, but trying to find all the linkages, correct manifold and carbs would take some doing, and be very costly.

Nice motor! Such nice styling which adds a touch of class to the roads!
I admire your resilience. 3 1/2 hours without tea...!
Good to see them still working :)
Fascinating work, loving this series on the Riley. Fantastic project.
Well done! Great progress 👍
A lot of work to do Alex.My Wolseley had the good old BMC green engine and rocket box cover!
Super little video on a super little car. Can't wait to see the finish on the head gasket. Stay safe and enjoy.
You should put a mg turbo in it alex coolest sleeper 😎
What a gem.
Good video

Me too, with a 1275cc MG Midget engine in a Minor Traveller, except I used a Maestro 1.3 HIF44 with an MG Metro needle.

SU carbs were set up for each type of engine, the needle measures out the fuel, each engine has different requirements!
I know this, both carbs were/are from 1275cc engines so the metering should be the same.
@@AllThingsAlex not necessarily Maybe you will be lucky they are set each different model
Hi great to get a video on the car, shame head gasket gone but look forward to seeing that video.
Spares department 😅. You should see my spares department! A right mess it is!

New rocker cover looks much better in that car.
Dashpot oil?
Didnt the Riley have twin SU's as standard. Rocker cover looks good compared to the Metro
Thought they all had twin carbs?

No, scrub that it's the middle section that looks faded...
Give it a name then you'll have to care about it and stick with it !
I did, its called "Kes"
