But I think her working with target for promoting 1989 was a good move too and loved the commercial. I loved the album at the time but I don’t think it’s her best, currently. I think Reputation left a mark on me. It’s a different yet best side of Taylor that no one has expected. Plus, it totally degraded Kanye after what he did to her so her being very successful and happy in that era was the best. I love Taylor but I’m just saying her success isn’t always based on how good her work is but her smart, business tactics help her more in the long run.
I feel like people REALLY started to notice her career taking off in a major way when we are never ever getting back together went to number 1 on the billboard hot 100 in late 2012
Yeah Red was the album that completely made her all up in your face with the singles (it had 4 top tens, which has been her most in an album second only to 1989), but 1989 was where she really went in on that
One of my favorite aspects of Taylor Swift is her excellent song writing. I never paid much attention to her music before 1989, although I picked up that she was a strong writer through her early albums in country and RED had some singles that caught my ear sonically and her writing. Taylors voice really is clear through her song writing. Her singing is average but I respect her musicianship mucho.
Yeah, her singing is Ok, though it has undergone massive improvement since her teenage years, and her blossoming lower range (like, that Grammys performance...🙀) is truly lovely. Of course, she’ll probably never be a vocalist like Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, Mariah Carey, and the like, but she can sing on pitch and belt some good notes.
Reputation was her defining album for me. It's my favorite album by her, but it's also the album that showed just how brilliant she was and how brave she was. She went into a world that hated her and considered her over and released a successful album followed by the highest grossing tour in the U.S.
Taylor has 2 peak eras (which is very difficult to reach this century) #1 1989 - y'all prolly know that this is her biggest era and one of the biggest eras in history. 1989 has it all. streams, tour gross, album sales, chart longevity, #1 singles etc. 1989 is THAT bitch. #2 Fearless - people who aren't fans of taylor prolly doesn't know that before 1989, she already had a peak. swifties didn't thought that her crossover in pop genre will give her a bigger era than this. Fearless became her first ever diamond album. Love Story & You Belong With Me are worldwide hits up until now. This is also the most awarded country album of all time.
if you really think about it, folklore is her third peaking era, and that's a huge accomplishment, tbh i don't see any other artists or future artists doing this
@@mrm4734 I dont think Folklore is her third peak i mean its great and sold well but its not as successful as Fearless and 1989 which both sold like 12million copies worldwide (and 8milion in usa alone)
Mehdi mazzouri and folklore is her only album to spend 6 consecutive weeks at number 1 not even 1989 accomplished that it did spend 11 weeks at number 1 but not consecutive
actually 1989 wasn’t available to stream upon release and the first streaming service it was uploaded to was apple music when it launched in summer 2015. 1989’s debut came from a mix of physical and digital sales lover was the album that showed her fans would still pay money to purchase the album because it was available to stream upon its release. and folklore further solidified that
fearless, red, 1989 and folklore are the albums that impacted her career the most in my opinion. with fearless she basically started being known, with red she matured a lot, with 1989 she dominated the world and with folklore she cemented herself as one of the greatest songwriters of all time. love that for her
I mean she really did transition from 1989 onwards and she said that this gave her the confidence to experiment with a new genre. My fav has to be Folklore. I can see like a mixture of country taylor and pop taylor transitioning into this new inde taylor and i love it! But this album would definitely not have been there if it wasn’t for 1989. I feel if the totally country taylor would have made this, the album would not have this different inde feel. This is my opinion.
I remember when 1989 was released, I swear I never stopped listening to this album. I liked her in her red era...but then my love for her grew more in 1989
For some reason 1989, Reputation and Lover haven't really done it for me but after watching Miss Americana, it ignited in me an urge to revisit these albums and your video has definitely made me check out 1989 again.
yeah I totally agree 1989 is her most important album, I mean if you see it as a whole, the era had such a big impact in pop culture that it's hard to really compare it to other albums of hers or other singers. 1989 was the perfect pop album with the perfect videos, perfect singles, commercially succesful, won a lot of awards and broke a lot of records.... But if we talk about her best album in terms of quality and cohesiveness, I think Reputation is her best body of work.
Been listening to her since i was 7, nearly 12 years ago and she’s one of the only artists i listen to constantly. She’s like the only singer i actually listen to.
She took the risk to change her genre again + her album was a whole surprise and she didn't even give a warning sign and still got everyone to love it . Legend 👏👏
This is well-done! I love how you remained neutral and didn't resort to lowkey shading her like the other videos similar to this one (ehem, vox). Thank you for this! I agree that 1989 is really her most significant album. The success of this era was unparalleled. Put her at the top of the game alongside big names and now three albums later, no one can take that away from her. She's become an icon. However, that humongous success also brought upon her a maelstrom of hate which wasn't surprising in retrospect because like TS said herself, "people throw rocks at things that shine." Society likes to tear down anything that thrives. It took a huge hit on her mental and emotional health, her friendships, etc. But because the world works with balance, she lost but she also gained. What's important is that now, she's at a better place mentally, emotionally and physically. She's doing better than she ever was.
The 1989 Era (as fans call it) wouldn't be half of what it was if Blank Space didn't exist. That song was a highlight on the album, as well as a brilliant career move for TS. Not only is it an extremely well - written song, it really helped to demonstrate the songwriting versatility that a lot of people didn't know she was capable of. It takes IMMENSE self - confidence/awareness to be able to use your skill as a lyricist, for one song, to embody the false portrayal of yourself that's been drawn up by someone else for the masses to pick apart. And a lot of people still don't realize that. However, what made this song the full package was how successful it was. I personally view it as the first hint that she was growing out of the naive, airy, agreeable, good - girl persona that, while appearing genuine, still managed to garner backlash from critics. Blank Space sent, arguably, TS' most assertive message yet, and the media was taken aback by it. In her own words, in describing the song on the 1989 Tour, she smugly commented: "if you want to play this way, we can play this way." Six years later, Blank Space is still one of the best songs in her discography - lyrically, sonically, and commercially. It MADE 1989.
Another excellent video. I'd love to see your ranking of her albums. To answer your question I think the big 3 turning points in her career was the years between Red and Rep. She evolved and kept reinventing herself again and again with each record. I think Red established her as a writer, 1989 established her as a pop star and Rep established her as an icon. 1989 was still truly the bridge between all 3 of those things though.
I have never lived through an album more popular than 1989. I remember 2 years during middle school where every month it seemed like Taylor had a new song that was playing everywhere starting with 22 and i knew you were trouble leading into 1989 singles. That album is stuck in my memory as the most popular album i’ve ever witnessed.
To be honest, 1989 is the 5th place in my favourite Taylor's albums (My top 4 are Reputation, Lover, Folklore and Red), but if asking which album change Taylor's career forever and made her become a superstar, hands down it's 1989.
I love that this video doesn’t promote hate against Taylor - instead, you’re trying to understand her. Like I can barely videos that doesn’t promote hate towards her. New subbie here. And yeah, 1989 is her most successful era.
1989 is my fave album (I even have a keychain of the cover, lol), but I feel like Rep is the mature, more condensed version of 1989. I have recently just started listening to Red, and 1989 is definitely in there. It’s really cool to see.
It was soulless and pop-ey but I personally think the pop genre perfectly represents what she felt. Harry Styles fling with no deepness but it was fun and that's basically what pop is. And she felt like she was at the top of the world and everyone knew her but she had noone to come home to.. she didn't have her soul at that time so the entire thing represents what she felt but swifties aren't ready for this conversation yet.
tiptop Yet that emptiness is what makes it so personal and relatable, which is what's great about a taylor album, different people can interpret it both ways ... 1989 & folklore are my no skip album. best
She can still set Sunshine as bright as 1989 if she chose Rep- Getaway car, Idsb .... Lover-Cruel summer, iftye Cornelia street As singles Ig she personally wasn't comfortable with that amount of fame or publicity and she's happy at the place she is

To me, folklore was the biggest "jump" for Taylor because most of us had no idea we would hear another stripped down, acoustic guitar in her music ever again since 1989 came out. folklore also feels like a farewell or ending of some sort.
1989 is a masterpiece. I’ve been a Taylor Swift fan since 2008, but never has an album impacted me like 1989. “This Love”, “You are in love”, “Clean”, and “Wildest Dreams” hit so different after a bad break up and deep depression I went through in 2014. Taylor is a lyrical genius. ❤️
I feel like you would be perfect to create a video explaining the true art behind reputation and why it was the biggest and most successful comeback album in music history.
exactly, people downplayed it because of lwymmd but in reality there's so many great deepcuts in that album. It was her one of the most personal album especially when she was at her lowest point and imo, it was the most iconic comeback on 2010s
My favorite album and there is a song for everyone. I like the ending and my second favorite is Lover, not just because of the great songs, but she owns it and we all know that means a lot to her.
1989 has always been my favorite! It’s an incredible incredible album!!! But I think she’s going to do it again with folklore, this indie/folk album could be part of a plan so big only Taylor Swift could pull off. I love her music and her art so much I can’t wait to see what’s next
I smiled when u we’re talking about the physical CD sales bc lil 16 year old me definitely bought one! Besides just bonus songs, the album also included all these cute Polaroids of Taylor that featured lyrics. She definitely incentivized u to buy the physical albums nicely. Whenever I first think about 1989 I tend to write it off since reputation is my #1, but then I remember all the songs off it I love and am like….hold up. Style!!!!! Wildest dreams!!!! Blank space!!!! 1989 is POP PERFECTION! You cant deny it, everything on that album just screams pop. 1989 will always be the most PERFECT pop album ever. Almost everyone in the 2010s can name 2 songs on that album, even 80 year olds.
I think taylor is so different but so similar to the other singers is bc its the wording and how her aesthetic on her music like she could write a whole poetry book💗 *im sorry if im not using the right wording, im not that smart of writing (but know some meanings) and music*
Taylor, as I've learned, has a clear-cut strategy, a pattern with her musicology and discography and that's what makes her legendary. She'll be absent for a while, and then come back with a banger album. And in those times she's absent, she's filling them diary pages with deeply personal and highly sensible imageries of lyrics complete with oddly funny rhyme game. Only her presence fades, but not the music she makes. She's definitely not putting her talent to waste....not for several more decades to follow.
Taylor became one of the most successful singer in the world by doing her works that is very unbelievable that no one can change the fact that she's just a natural talented human.
She wasn't wealthy whatsoever when she grew up. More like just financially well-off. You never see Miley Cyrus, Alessia Cara, or those fake started-from-the-bottom rappers like Travis Scott or Lil Mosey ever being told this, yet those artists came from the same economic status as her.
A. Stab but not SO wealthy that they can buy their daughter’s career, they were able to move to Nashville to help her launch her career, but from there it was just her and her success
I think Reputation is my favorite Taylor album, because of what it stands for. I love the ongoing themes in all of the songs and I felt like I could relate a lot to that album during that time in my life.I truly needed that album when it was released. I feel like Lover was a nice transition, from the dark "Reputation" to the lighter "Lover". I understand why she released Lover right after Reputation, it makes sense.
I can recall my time during elementary school where she was my computer backdrop. 😌 This was right after the release of Speak Now, one of my favorite albums.
Also possible to argue that each album changed Taylor's career forever? amazement/try out, giving everything to the max, flexing her muscles, writing solo, discovering new sides/facets to herself, writing deeper than world criticism (out of the box), being loved for herself/reflection/the other/beloved, writing for others/any context/any genre MS 2weeks ago @UC79rnBlvh5Cq7yWZ0qB-SMw Fearless - made her famous Speak Now / Red - made her credible 1989 - made her a superstar Reputation - made her cool Lover - made her an icon Folklore - made her a legend

I agree that 1989 is her most important album. It really took her to another level. I was never a big fan of hers until 1989. I was a fan just not a BIG fan like I am now. She has been so consistent since then and she really outdid herself with Folklore. It's one of those rare perfect albums. I think she's brilliant and she just keeps getting better. It's time she gets the recognition she deserves.

Plus, it totally degraded Kanye after what he did to her so her being very successful and happy in that era was the best.
I love Taylor but I’m just saying her success isn’t always based on how good her work is but her smart, business tactics help her more in the long run.
Thank you! I heard streaming and I was like no, there was a huge battle in 2014 Taylor was fighting against.
I feel like people REALLY started to notice her career taking off in a major way when we are never ever getting back together went to number 1 on the billboard hot 100 in late 2012
The way it’s been 8 years and her recent albums are a completely different genre. She is still breaking records which is compra insane to think
Shake It Off is not about the media. It’s about the internet bullies and internet trolls
Blank Space is about media on how they created a fictional T.Swift who was a sociopathic serial dater..as seen in her MV.
what's the difference?
@@__-bt5ry the media includes magazine and that kind of stuff
@@guadamartellotta4731 yeah but what's the difference? have you seen the bs they write about her? they bullied her too.
@@__-bt5ry I think that's true too
Reputation was her defining album for me. It's my favorite album by her, but it's also the album that showed just how brilliant she was and how brave she was. She went into a world that hated her and considered her over and released a successful album followed by the highest grossing tour in the U.S.
Agreed!🙂
Reputation also really grows with age. I wasn’t big on it when I first heard it, but it kept pulling me deeper and now, we ✨stan✨
Taylor has 2 peak eras (which is very difficult to reach this century)
#1 1989
- y'all prolly know that this is her biggest era and one of the biggest eras in history. 1989 has it all. streams, tour gross, album sales, chart longevity, #1 singles etc. 1989 is THAT bitch.
#2 Fearless
- people who aren't fans of taylor prolly doesn't know that before 1989, she already had a peak. swifties didn't thought that her crossover in pop genre will give her a bigger era than this.
Mehdi mazzouri folklore is not even 2 month old 1989 is almost 6 year’s and fearless 12 years old
In reality all Taylor eras could be considered peaks at least compare not to herself but compared to other artist
Mehdi mazzouri and folklore is her only album to spend 6 consecutive weeks at number 1 not even 1989 accomplished that it did spend 11 weeks at number 1 but not consecutive
actually 1989 wasn’t available to stream upon release and the first streaming service it was uploaded to was apple music when it launched in summer 2015. 1989’s debut came from a mix of physical and digital sales
lover was the album that showed her fans would still pay money to purchase the album because it was available to stream upon its release. and folklore further solidified that
Absolutely love your narration, you've got a very soothing and pleasant speaking voice!!!

1989 is one of the pop albuns that i grew up listening to. yes i love every song and i'm so glad to live a generation where taylor swift lives
fearless, red, 1989 and folklore are the albums that impacted her career the most in my opinion. with fearless she basically started being known, with red she matured a lot, with 1989 she dominated the world and with folklore she cemented herself as one of the greatest songwriters of all time. love that for her
It was reputation for me. I was thrilled when I saw the LWYMD dropped.
According to me, Red was that album, cause Red was that foundation on which 1989 got that huge success.
You’re completely right
I remember when 1989 was released, I swear I never stopped listening to this album. I liked her in her red era...but then my love for her grew more in 1989
For some reason 1989, Reputation and Lover haven't really done it for me but after watching Miss Americana, it ignited in me an urge to revisit these albums and your video has definitely made me check out 1989 again.
You're in for a ride, saathi. Good luck. Reputation remains my fav of all three.
wulfric the reason why I like reputation more than 1989 is it’s more sonically cohesive and well-produced.
1989 didn’t get old... it’s like it was just yesterday that I got addicted winking before singing “and I’ll write your name”
Jack Antonoff was not a powerhouse producer when he worked with Taylor on 1989.
yeah I totally agree 1989 is her most important album, I mean if you see it as a whole, the era had such a big impact in pop culture that it's hard to really compare it to other albums of hers or other singers. 1989 was the perfect pop album with the perfect videos, perfect singles, commercially succesful, won a lot of awards and broke a lot of records.... But if we talk about her best album in terms of quality and cohesiveness, I think Reputation is her best body of work.
Agreed! And Reputation has a real edginess. I loved that about that album.🤘
taste!!!!!
Yas, reputation is her best body of work and i think folklore as well
not when folklore exist
@@nazriel8307 you have your opinion and we have ours.🤷♀️ So whatever.✌
Been listening to her since i was 7, nearly 12 years ago and she’s one of the only artists i listen to constantly. She’s like the only singer i actually listen to.
Do this for Born to Die by Lana del Rey. Cultural reset for alternative music

Simmy1 true!
IMOGEN RUSSELL true!!
All of her catalogs sound the same.
A. Stab me when I’m desilutional. If you haven’t listen to any of her albums in complete you can’t comment
In her own words, in describing the song on the 1989 Tour, she smugly commented: "if you want to play this way, we can play this way."
Six years later, Blank Space is still one of the best songs in her discography - lyrically, sonically, and commercially.
To be honest, 1989 is the 5th place in my favourite Taylor's albums (My top 4 are Reputation, Lover, Folklore and Red),
but if asking which album change Taylor's career forever and made her become a superstar, hands down it's 1989.
Speak now??
@@mehdimazzouri7662 it gave her fame but compared to 1989 that was what did it for her
I love that this video doesn’t promote hate against Taylor - instead, you’re trying to understand her. Like I can barely videos that doesn’t promote hate towards her. New subbie here.
And yeah, 1989 is her most successful era.
Are we gonna talk about how the album that followed this one was about how she actually couldnt really shake it off with "reputation"
I like this album a lot.its so freeing and fun
1989 is my fave album (I even have a keychain of the cover, lol), but I feel like Rep is the mature, more condensed version of 1989. I have recently just started listening to Red, and 1989 is definitely in there. It’s really cool to see.
1989 was LITERALLY so important
1989 is my favorite album but folklore is her best album
For me 1989 is the least personal TS album. That's why it's low on my ranking. I still prefer the unfiltered petty teenage emotions of Speak Now.
@@shreyaadahall wow that's a great observation

This video made me tear up a little, 1989 means so much to me, I’ll never forgot that era, so many incredible memories, 1989 always and forever! 💙✨
To me, folklore was the biggest "jump" for Taylor because most of us had no idea we would hear another stripped down, acoustic guitar in her music ever again since 1989 came out. folklore also feels like a farewell or ending of some sort.
Taylor is one of the few artist that have 2 peak eras, which are 1989 and folklore. Her best albums
Actually she has 3 peaks; Fearless, 1989 and folklore.
not me pausing the video so i can think about about how red should have gotten a grammy for two straight minutes
She peaked at that era. Her face and her music are literally everywhere during 2014-2016. No TS era can even compete with 1989’s impact.
Please do a ranking with her discography!!!!!
I feel like you would be perfect to create a video explaining the true art behind reputation and why it was the biggest and most successful comeback album in music history.
Reputation is so underrated, especially this year after all what happened with kanye
exactly, people downplayed it because of lwymmd but in reality there's so many great deepcuts in that album. It was her one of the most personal album especially when she was at her lowest point and imo, it was the most iconic comeback on 2010s
@@feedhyungwonplease6087 yeah, Reputation was/is a great album.
No matter what people say i really think 1989 left so many memories and impacts. I still enjoy listening to the whole album until today.
My favorite album and there is a song for everyone. I like the ending and my second favorite is Lover, not just because of the great songs, but she owns it and we all know that means a lot to her.
I LOVE IT, really relatable and so ON-Point!

I know places!!!!!
Can u make a video for folklore or reputation
and now shes trying the world of indie folk! what an artist she is! amazing!!!
Taylor became one of the most successful singer in the world by doing her works that is very unbelievable that no one can change the fact that she's just a natural talented human.
from her red album onwards ive been a huge fan of hers... i especially love her 1989 album.. and i have to agree that album is a total masterpiece...
in 2014-2015 society cant escape Taylor Swift. She dominates and everywhere. People blasting Shake it off & Blank Space
Love her or not, you have to admit - She is already an ICON. She’s gonna be one of those artists who’s gonna be remembered for a long long time.
The fact that she had fearless on no.1 for 10 weeks at the age of 17-18

She wasn’t a regular girl. Her family was wealthy, and her father owned part of her record label. But she is a great writer.
Tickety Blue that’s actually not true at all 😭 people who hated her invented that... chile
That’s not true, her family is not wealthy
She wasn't wealthy whatsoever when she grew up. More like just financially well-off. You never see Miley Cyrus, Alessia Cara, or those fake started-from-the-bottom rappers like Travis Scott or Lil Mosey ever being told this, yet those artists came from the same economic status as her.
@@iftirahman8391 Taylor's family is kinda wealthy and educated, wdym.
Also possible to argue that each album changed Taylor's career forever? amazement/try out, giving everything to the max, flexing her muscles, writing solo, discovering new sides/facets to herself, writing deeper than world criticism (out of the box), being loved for herself/reflection/the other/beloved, writing for others/any context/any genre

Taylor Swift's 1989 sold 1.2M PURE SALES ALBUM in its first week. 1989 wasnt available yet in streaming sites in its first week due to her protesting for artist's rights for their arts in streaming companies so basically she never got any revenues from streaming on its first week.
