Still crying... 😭😭 What are your thoughts on Pachinko Season 1? Check out my TV Breakdowns here: ua-cam.com/play/PLY9KJ1cFVs7hpCCBkdXaeGEX1oQhCV2PB.html
The simple fact that the subtitles are color coordinated to show how (forcibly) intertwined the Korean and Japanese language was at the time because of the occupation was an absolutely brilliant decision. I've never seen that done before.
Pachinko was excellent. It educated me about Korean/Japanese history, history which still affects all the Koreans and their ancestors that still living in Japan. The acting was top notch. Looking forward to the second season. It may turn out that the only way for a Korean to open a Pachinko parlor in Japan was through the mob, so the familial ties to the Yakuza maybe already be present. May turn out that Solomon and Momoru are related somehow (through Noa? maybe). Nice to see you break this timeline down. Good job.
I loved pachinko and cried my eyes out with the mother daughter good bye. Thank you so much for this recap….it helped me connect the dots. I’m glad it’s renewed for the second season, it left so much unanswered
THANK YOU! For whatever reason I couldn't piece together the timeline for Hansu in earthquake episode. Seeing it laid out in chronological order, it's all so clear.
Apple capitalizing on Korean excellence. Disney saw the potential & jumped on board with Snowdrop. Glad they’re being recognized. Will only grow exponentially here on out as Netflix is waaay ahead with KDramas. Don’t forget to tune into Business Proposal 😉
The movie is great, great actors and actress ,great color background,costume,etc..but some events left us in the dark.. 1.what happened to Noah 2.Did isak die in prison 3.what happened to Solomon, did he close the deal after teaming up with manoru yoshii? 4.the woman who refused to sign the deal, what's up with the dogs that was in front of her house? 5.Noa met his dad at the end,to what end? I wish there was another episode to clear all these
I believe Noah is who is missing from the future storyline and we need to find out what happened because Solomon's dad is Mozasu. Sunja and Mozasu mention Noa in the last episode when they are talking in the Hana storyline scenes so it seems like a sore topic because to me it seemed that he wants nothing for the best for Solomon in fear of what happened to Noa. Could be an incorrect assumption so I'm looking forward to how they flesh that out and if Hansu continues to watch over Noa what would've needed to happen that he stopped or something like that? We'll see!
It was excellent, not your typical Lee Minho good guy characters, patiently waiting for season two, hopefully a tyrant Hansu we shall see, I wanna see him bad so bad😂😅😂
The creator said they’re planning 4 seasons I’m order to tell the whole story. I hope this happens, I’m loving every episode so far (I haven’t read the book either).
I love Pachinko. All the cast are excellent. Lee Min Ho is the reason I watched Season 1. He is always excellent in every one of his endeavors. The only think that I dislike is the fact that there are not enough episodes during Season 1 & 2, and there is too much time between the seasons.😊
i literally laughed out loud when he called i-sak "isaac". great vid tho! helped to summarize the show without spoiling major events, im definitely going to read the book.
So much history here loved the whole season ready for the 2 can’t hardly wait ❤ reading the book now love lee Minho in this drama every actor did an awesome job❤
In the book, Isak is a Christian who is arrested and ultimately dies for saying the Lord’s Prayer at service despite Shintoist emperor worship being mandated
Her nose is so…unique. And I mean that with no offense, I honestly think it’s cute. But when I picture her in my mind, without watching her, that all I can picture on her face.
The novel and the show are quite close actually except for some minor details -- e.g. Solomon's American boss, Tom, does not exist in the novel. It's just that the book tells the story in more or less chronological order; the show jumps among the time periods quite frequently -- a dozen or more in an episode sometimes.
It's not an occupation. Annexation at the behest of King Joseon. Until 1895, Korea was a slave country to China. And in Korea, the population ratio of citizens and slaves equal to both groups and slaves in the ruling class of non-labor privileges was 50%. And, due to the waste of the queen, Korea was the poorest country in the world with huge external debt. 1895. The Treaty of Peace between Japan and China made Korea independent of China. 1898 Gojong declared the tyrannical nation "Korean Empire" by the Joseon royal family. However, the national consciousness of despising labor and military training remained unchanged. Korea went bankrupt without being able to repay its external debt. Therefore, King Sunjong pleaded for annexation to Japan. Japan's annexation opposition lost power after the annexation opposition Hirobumi Ito was killed by a Japanese emperor worshiper Korean. 1910. Japan annexed Korea by following procedures in accordance with international law. Koreans have become Japanese nationals. (Taiwan was ruled by Japan in 1895, but they were not Japanese nationals. It was 1945 that they gained Taiwanese nationality.)
Roosevelt was most pleased with Japan's annexation of Korea. "Korea will be a shackle to Japan, and they will prevent excellent Japanese people from gaining status in the international community." The Joseon royal family was given preferential treatment as a member of the Japanese emperor's clan. Current. The Akasaka Prince Hotel Annex, which was their home, is preserved as a historic site. 1991. The Joseon royal family was destroyed when the last crown prince died in the room of the Akasaka Prince Hotel. (His nephew Yi Won, who had been nominated as the heir to the royal family, refused to succeed to the royal family.) Due to the annexation to Japan, the Government-General of Korea was built in Seoul. (Seoul City Hall) The practice in the Governor-General was appointed by the former Chancellor of the Joseon dynasty, who was appointed Lieutenant Governor. Koreans were hired as staff. Japan implemented the same system for Korea as Japan. Due to the family register system by Japan, Korean women who were the same as livestock got their personal names for the first time. Under the Japanese compulsory education system, Koreans learned Hankle for the first time. (School textbooks are written in both Korean and Japanese)
Japan has also built hospitals in various places. Japan transferred agricultural technology to increase food production. A power plant with dams and a water supply were also constructed. (They are still in use) As a result, the average life expectancy of Koreans has improved from 24 to 29 years. The population of Korea has doubled.
More than 90% of the members, mayors, and police chiefs in Korea are Koreans. The Japanese were only a few percent. After WW2. Korean officers of the Japanese army pointed their guns at the Japanese and shouted. "We are the Allied people who have defeated Japan in the war! The Japanese losers should submit to us!" Abusing the losers and the weak is a traditional Korean virtue. Syngman Rhee (both groups), who was espoused by the United States as president, became an adult without knowing the modernized Japanese era. When Japan made Korea a protectorate (1906), his family abandoned Korea and lived in Shanghai. Later I went to America. Syngman Rhee, who became president, created a strict discrimination society of the Joseon dynasty. And he started anti-Japanese school education by the history of lies. The first generation is Moon Jae-in. And Syngman Rhee became the man who killed the most Koreans in the world as a dictator. Park Chung-hee, who was deprived of power by a coup d'etat, was the first generation to grow up in Japanese education. "Korea has been modernized by Japan!"
According to Koreans, the image at the beginning of this video seems to be the content of history education materials for Korean school teachers. ua-cam.com/video/OEba68tEuFw/v-deo.html note that. Former comfort women have accused Yun Mi-Hyan, the leader of the comfort women support group, as a fraud.
Directed by Koreans, they're probably going to have Korean actors. Give them time, it's like how so many American movies back then only had white ppl. Thought that too tho
The true "pachinko" is ... In the postwar turmoil, Koreans in Japan forcibly robbed Japanese land and started business there. Therefore, there are pachinko parlors in prime locations in front of stations all over Japan.
You do really think it’s just a fiction? Wow… and how dare you said “Koreans robbed Japanese land”? Shame on you. Your comment just proved yourself how stupid and ignorant you are. Though having heard of it, it’s my first time to witness a Japanese making an attempt to distort hostory and hide the truth. I’m SPEECHLESS
Still crying... 😭😭

if it was 1921 and pregnancy is 10 "glorious" months, shouldnt she be 6, maaaybe 5 or 7?
Also Pachinko is Fiction mind you
The book was so well written, I am glad they made this show.
The simple fact that the subtitles are color coordinated to show how (forcibly) intertwined the Korean and Japanese language was at the time because of the occupation was an absolutely brilliant decision. I've never seen that done before.
Another neat detail is that the characters speak Kyungsangdo saturi (dialect of Busan) and Kansai-Ben (dialect of Osaka)

Even before occupation a girl would be shipped off to another hometown to join her husbands family and leave her own family.
Greaaat synopsis!! It covers the main points extremely well I struggle with shows that aren’t chronological. I’ll watch this again before season 2!!

An amazing series. Had me hooked from episode 1. How you explained the possibilities for season 2 made me so excited!!!
Pachinko is going to have 4 season
Thank you for making this much more clear! Loved Pachinko and learned so much history.
It's not historically accurate. It's highly dramatized, in the book and more so on the TV show. Please read a real history book.
The movie is great, great actors and actress ,great color background,costume,etc..but some events left us in the dark..
