Heterosexuals must also come to the same realization that their sexuality is not their true identity but their true identity is in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our identity in Christ is to be heterosexual because God created us that way. Man with woman, in marriage. It's part of our new identity in Christ & needs to be embraced.

Honestly, I think your statement is very misleading. Heterosexuality is an inherent part of the nature of human beings. Christians need to stop being so politically correct, and they need to stop downplaying the importance of sexual desire between a man and a woman.

The "whatever it takes" prayer is a great prayer! My grandpa got saved after I prayed that prayer for him! He was about 88 when I prayed it. I was getting nervous, I knew he wasn't saved and he was getting up there in years! At 92, he sat on my couch and prayed the most beautiful sinners prayer out of his own heart, spontaneously. He was baptized at 95, and lived to be 98! "I pray for you everyday," he used to tell me. I will say that when I prayed that prayer, I sensed that there could be a cost. My grandma died, and he was bereft. He began watching Christian preachers such as Adrian Rogers and Charles Stanley and listening to a Bible study on television. This planted the seeds for him. I also prayed for my dad. He got cancer, but accepted Jesus before he died. I had prayed for him for about 27 years.

@Jessica B. A lot of what you describe applies to heterosexual people to. I think our culture puts so much emphasis on sex that it makes proximity and empathy without sexual desire a very awkward thing. As a married (and while single) heterossexual man, it can sometimes be hard to remain holy (aka “separated”) when approaching an attractive woman. The closer I come to Christ, both in the study of His Word and in prayer, with a clear understanding of my weaknesses but strengthened by His victory over my sin, I can slowly develop strategies to curb by natural impulses and reflect God in those relationships.
Like Christopher states quite a few times: our sexuality is not our identity, be it hetero or homosexual. The struggles will be there until the way we’re glorified in Christ, and is our job to flee from temptation and seek Him first.
I’m always reminded by the story of David, the murdering adulterer, also known as the Man after God’s own heart… God wants your heart, and when you surrender your identity to His Lordship and Salvation, Christ redeems your sin, and the Holy Spirit seals you, and empowers you to live for Him and in Him. 🙏❤️

@Jessica B. It is akward at times but very possible. Whenever i see other heterosexual men fight or wrestle, i see that some physical aspect to friendship is normal and i can have that too, without it being sexual. Though again i sometimes struggle to find the right bounderies when it comes to the physical. It sometimes helps, when the others dont know you have same sex attraction, because they won't overinterpret what you are doing. For that reason i keep the circle who knows about that aspect of me rather small. But those who know are very accepting of it being there (of course i don't act on it) and the topic didnt come up very often after my "coming out"

I loved what Christopher said about singleness. I feel out of place sometimes because most of my friends are married and/or have children. I don't know if I'm called to singleness and I want to be married one day and start a family, but even if that doesn't happen, I have Christ and that's the most important thing.

I am married and have many, many children. Because that was what I was supposed to do and I always always knew that. But if it weren't for my single friends, there would be so much that I wouldn't know or understand because when you're busy raising a family, then you just don't have the necessary time to get really deeply into topics because the care of others has to be a priority above whatever else you might want to do. I want to live and breathe ancient near east culture and religion, but I can't because I don't have that freedom. I rely so very much on my single friends who were called to something else to help me and keep me focused. I, and by extension my family and children and everyone I know, would not know would be deprived of so much knowledge and information if we didn't have the single people in our lives. Maybe it's selfish but I would actually be pretty bummed if some of my friends did get married because the they would be too busy to teach me. 🙃

    • @MsBellsandy

If you want to be married then ask God to send you a wife. Perhaps in the process he'll tell you whether his plan is for you to be single. But He desires to give us good gifts. Don't be afraid to ask if it's in your heart, and in the asking maybe he'll clear it up for you. If there's a wife for you start praying for her character now.

I pray that Christ blesses you with the holy union of Marriage

    • @frusia123
      @frusia123 Рік тому +3

Marriage isn't a fairytale union, it's hard work. There's loneliness in marriage too. Many people won't tell you about it, especially Christians, because they've made a choice and they don't feel there's a way out, so they have to keep believing it was the right choice for them.
Notice how the people who had been in relationships and then decided that singleness was their calling, like Becket here, seem pretty peaceful about it - that's because they no longer have the illusion of a perfect union awaiting them.
Gay people might think that there's no perfect union for them because they're gay, but the truth is that there's no perfect union, period. There's a reason why Paul wrote: I wish you could all be like me, but if you can't, then marry. He didn't see marriage as this wonderful thing at all, he thought it was better to be single.
When we're young, we believe that marriage will fulfill the longing we feel inside. It will not. The others advised you well, pray to God, and I hope your dreams will come true. But if you won't find a spouse, don't feel regretful, there's nothing that you lose. Best wishes to you ❤

  • @MapleBoarder78

Thank you for speaking on singleness. I am married and lead a college age Sunday school class and make sure to let my students know they do not have to get married and have kids if that’s not what God is calling them to do. Paul expounds on this in 1 Corinthians chapter 7. Being single has great benefits in regards to serving God’s Kingdom.
There is a lot of unintended pressure often in the Christian community on young 20 something’s to get married and have kids right away. This pressure often (while not intentionally) ostracizes singles and also couples who are unable to conceive, making them feel as though they are failing to live up to the “American Christian standard” of a spouse, a three bedroom house, and 2.4 kids. As Jesus said, some choose to be eunuchs for the sake of the Kingdom. God bless.

As a senior, 82 yrs old, I have so much to say about this subject, so many experiences , I don't know where to start.....But as a Christian, but in reality, I have these feelings of favoring being with men rather than women........as in my youth I always enjoyed being with my male friends more than any thing else...for some reason, and I never understood it, I never had favorism or romanic feelings for women.....I accepted the truth of the message of Jesus at age 15 on Easter morning and asked Jesus by faith, by faith only, because I have never met or hear His teachings as i had heard it that morning........at that age, I had no idea why or what my feelings for close friendships with males was......even at this age, as a Christian, (having 4 yrs of Bible College) I don't know if I was born with this feeling, or just adopted it from being around and enjoying my friends so much. But what ever it is, or what ever happens in my life, I Know the Spirit of God's righteous leads me to the truth of God's Word. Homosexuality is for sure against God's will for our life........Rebirth from our natural birth of sin is altogether a must in order to be accepted by God's fellowship and His salvation from eternal death......This is just a mere minute of my life's experience's. We all that have these feeling have a battle to fight daily, but with the vision of the cross and the reality of the resurrection of Christ and His promises we become hiers and joint hier's with Christ and His Glory......

I’ve been teaching this concept for 4 decades, but have not expressed it as eloquently as you have! It isn’t about who we are attracted to at all. I shared with a young pastor once on this subject - he was struggling. He said, “I can’t imagine being told that I couldn’t love [my wife]!” I asked him, “what IF, when you met her, she was already married? ACTING on Your being attracted to her would be sin.” I’ve used diabetes as well ~ being a diabetic is not a sin and eating cake is not a sin, but for a T1D, eating sugar is not treating their body as a temple. This helps demonstrate that just like many sin acts, it is just DISOBEDIENCE (like Eve and Adam did).

I was like that. I wanted to pursue a non-sexual homosexual relationship after coming to Christ. Thank goodness God has been patient and faithful. He allowed me to get what I wanted to teach me a lesson. I learned my lesson the hard way: it's just simply NOT God's will. Such a relationship is basically idolatry. We just have to trust the Lord who will meet our needs, instead of trying to get things done our way.

Praise God for you two, who are standing boldly in the Name of Christ talking about holy sexuality and sharing how God can change any sinner. It is so encouraging. I was born in a Chinese Christian family but struggled many years with homosexuality and the devil would always lie to me that I'm alone. I told my mom when I was struggling with it at 19, and to my surprise, she did not kick me out but love me and tried to help me. Since I came to the states for college, God plugged me into a good church and set me up with Godly accountability, which helped me fight against my struggles. There were many ups and downs but I know, that God is still faithful and teaching me. I want to be able to share my testimony and reach those who are struggling in this area. I also pray for more Christian communities to learn about Holy Sexuality and how to pray for struggling brothers and sisters. Praying for your ministries as well! To God be the glory

    Words On Fire! 🔥
There is so much in here. It needs to be repeated like a mantra.
And so relevant to not just homosexuals but heterosexuals as well. For my entire life I have been subjected to a culture that glorifies random heterosexual sex that no one considers it sinful anymore. How far we have fallen.
And stating the fact that we all now take it for granted the Freudian idea that all our current problems are due to some abuse that occurred in the past. Brilliant insight. And then the concept that it’s not some odd abuse that is causing our problems but our sins and our propensity to choose sinful behavior over Godly behavior seems so different now that it’s fresh and new.
As my husband would say, “It’s so old it’s new.”

What an outstanding interview! Such sound biblical explanations. I've read both your book, "A Change of Affection" and Christopher Yuan's "Out of a Far Country". I was processing the news that two of my extended family members are gay, and both books were so biblically insightful and helpful. I've been a believer in and walked with Jesus Christ since childhood, but reading your testimony of how much encountering Jesus meant to you, left me saying, "I want a relationship with Jesus like Beckett Cook has!" Christopher Yuan's book was very eye-opening and frankly rather horrifying in terms of the gay world he was in, but his concept of "holy sexuality" gave me a whole new perspective. I look forward to reading his new book featured in this interview. Thank you for sharing your stories and for providing such timely, biblical and practical help for all of us in navigating this issue of identity.
