I grew up with Ford & Massey's in the 70 on the farm in the UK. I loved driving both makes. Never saw any internationals over here but for fun we did get a Russian Balarus Tractor. It was cheap but a good workhorse. I find it difficult to see you riding around in duel tyres as in UK you would not get through some of the gates. Even so the 70s tractors are the golden years of tractors. Don't like the modern monster tractors. Great channel. Loving it.
MF was way ahead at this time 🙂. The only complaints on the 1100 series was the seat and noisy cab. The transmission is a trick to shift, with not enough gears, but bulletproof!
Pre 05 the masseys had after market cabs, water coolers ect, 05’s had massey cabs, 66 series IHC’s were the same, 73 IHC were quiet, later not so much, you will get a clutch in the massey before u hurt the rearends, u soup a IHC up and u could get the ring gear and pinion, and some had bull gear problems, we had a 1206 that was set way up, 1135@ 140hp wouldn’t run with it, fuel pumps were super picky about fuel, masseys were more efficient on fuel as they cut way back on light loads, 4020’s were suppose to be the same hp, they drank fuel and didn’t cut back much, 180 massey was way more fuel efficient than a3020 jd in edible beans, baling ect
Those series of Masseys had nice features. I run Massey, Ford, John Deere and International all of the same age. They all have their good and bad things.
Great video. Our family was everything Massey Ferguson at one time. Plow, disc, cultivator, combines, tractors, battery charger, and a pressure washer even. Still have a 1085 with a loader on it used around the farm as a utility tractor, I guess you'd say. Fun fact, our farm ran a some sort of Massey combine for 59 years.
Great comparison. I just bought a 1100 open station, 1100 cab, 1105 and a 1135 from a neighbours estate. Been sitting in the shed since late 80’s. Will enjoy getting them back in use!
Buongiorno. Ti scrivo dall'Italia. Mio padre comprò un MF1105 nel 1973. Avevo 4 anni. Quando nel 2007 smisi di fare l'agricoltore, a mio malincuore, l'ho venduto. Era, e secondo me lo è ancora, una macchina stupenda. Mi pento di averlo venduto!
I grew up on 1155's. They were good pullers. Still have a 1085 but most everything else is Massey 8600 and 8700 series for us now. Greetings from a fellow Ferguson fan
I find that what I use the right hand door for mostly on my 1486 is to reach in from the ground and operate the hydraulics without having to climb into the cab.
Spent many hours behind the wheel of a MF 1105 and MF 1085. Very solid built tractors. John Deere Case International of same horsepower used considerably more fuel than the Massey's. Only weak area was the power steering pump on 1085 would blow Teflon seals on a regular basis. Wish I had a Massey to play around with again
On the plug of the power steering pump to fill it with oil we put a hydraulic hose on it and made dip stick. Once that pump is vented it quits blowing that seal.
That's a good looking tractor! Make sure you keep the rear axle bearings greased, it's something easily overlooked! I farm alot of acres with a1105, 2 105 and a 6080allis!
Growing up my dad started up with and old Allis and and 8n Ford Then he stitched to a 35 & 65 Massey Ferguson, he stayed with Massey Ferguson until he retired. He had a 135 , 165, 175 , 255, 265, 275, 285 , 365. , and a 471. I had drove all of his 100, 200, 300, and 400 series Massey’s. All were great tractors. My grandpa had International tractors. I will always have a soft spot for Massey Ferguson’s because learning driving them first and for so many years. Today I have a 1990 Massey Ferguson 3070 cab 92hp 4.236T Perkins great on fuel for its size. It doesn’t use any more fuel then my 2004 John Deere 5320 cab 3cly turbo 64hp. And has 30percent more hp. I also have a IMT 539 39hp open station it has the Perkins 3cly diesel same as a MF35. Which only sips the fuel, raking hay it will only use 3/4 of a gallon of fuel per hour with a New Holland roller bar rake. You have a very nice MF 1105. When I was younger I always wanted dad to buy a 100 horse power Massey they sounded so great at the local tractor pulls, dad would enter the pulls every year , usually with two Massey’s. He won first place serval times.
I just love old Massey, they are bulletproof, I'm currently restoring a MF158 from the Red Giant Series and what a machine. I ran 1105 and 1135 and they were also great, the sweet sound of the 6 in-line perkins (and also the 4 in-line in the 158). I can tell you if a Perkins engine is being start or if it's another engine. Cheers from France!
I use an 886 and a 656. The 886 is a ROPS only tractor. Getting around those shifters is definitely a pain but since I don’t have a cab it’s not too bad. Grew up on those.
i have a 986 ,1586 ,1105,1135 there is no comparison between the Massey and International tractors .I would love for and looking for a low hr 1135.The Massey works great on our seed potato farm here in New Brunswick Canada .It handle our 3 point hitch potato planter great with no weights where the planter handles the International even with weights and a 50 gallon water tank on the front .
My father was Massey Harris in the 50's. Then the dealership system went out. I would have preferred Massey Ferguson in the 70's. We bought Internationals starting in the late 60's. I have good reviews with Internationals until they come out with the 86 and 88 series.
Well I have to say that only due to how JD, & IH set up dealers around the country is one of the reasons, another reason was early in the two companies history they didn’t make their tractor under another name .Oliver is my favorite tractor of all time, but they swapped tractors across the Canadian border with Cockshutt, was in cahoots with Minneapolis Moline, before being bought by White whic did for some time carry on the Oliver quality in there build. IH had Mccorick, later was bought by case and one things for sure case is an old company but if they were not still using IH in their name they would be a memory, the fact that they don’t even make all their own tractors anymore leaves JD to be the last original company to not sell out!
Ironically when Tenneco bought out IH in late 1984 or thereabouts, subsequent Case IH tractors actually used a lot of IHs' technology in their transmissions. Just goes to show who had the better quality and ideas. Also think it was a mistake to drop the IH 'Snoopy' tractors from the forthcoming line up - the Super 70 Series was a big jump up in quality and durability. The front axle was a new beefed up unit rated for Duals, whereas the previous two ranges had a front axle, sourced from Doncaster, England, that could only support single wheels. The front axle on the Super 70s was also moved 5 1/2" further forward on the front frame so that the front wheels didn't foul on the rears during a turn, when duals were fitted. The engine also being located on the front frame was a limiting factor as to how far the new axle could be repositioned further forward.
We had a dealer near us that sold Scout and pickups - 1/2 ton through 1 ton, nothing bigger. They also sold AMC cars, but oddly enough did not have the Jeep franchise. They did not sell tractors or any ag equipment.
@@HumbleHaymakers ok I thought they were sold at AMC dealers but anyone else I talked to didn’t remember that. Drove a Scout in college, they were a pretty cool vehicle.
We had a International dealer back home in Central Iowa and they sold both tractors ,and International trucks, scouts all models never remember seeing any cars there mostly sold those old binders. I still love them ole binders, & Scouts!
Those were the best years for Massey Ferguson. You still see tons of the square hooded Ferguson’s being used regularly today.
Them perkins are one hell of an engine.super video.

I have a 1155(1976) I’m putting back together sounds strong
@@timsweetenberg4020 I kinda miss the old 540 V8 lope
Yes sir it’s strong (156HP) I love the sounds of it

Great Video. I have a 1105 as well. Great tractor. thanks for sharing your experiences. Keep up the great work.
Having ran several Deere’s with the Sound Guard cab, the post don’t make that big of difference. That Massey is pretty slick.

Thanks for watching. Don’t think there were any 158’s over here, but 135’s, 165’s, 175’s everywhere - very popular.
About rust, the 1100 series used good thick steel for a cab, but others like 500, 600, 2600 had notorious cabs that rusted like crazy.
I use an 886 and a 656. The 886 is a ROPS only tractor. Getting around those shifters is definitely a pain but since I don’t have a cab it’s not too bad. Grew up on those.

TAs go out due to operator error...Perkins engine is sound
Multi powers were good, never had a ta out, AC power shift went out regular
Great video bud 👍
Hermosura de tractor !
very nice info i like it.
Those cabs have to be made by Hinson & Royal. They have a lot of similarities to what Deere used on the 4320 and 4620 series, especially the door.

Massey had a cab advantage, they were close in hp,
OK maybe you can answer this for me nobody else has been able to what dealerships were the scouts in the I H pick up truck sold at?
We had a dealer near us that sold Scout and pickups - 1/2 ton through 1 ton, nothing bigger. They also sold AMC cars, but oddly enough did not have the Jeep franchise. They did not sell tractors or any ag equipment.

Hie , how many horsepower is this machine?
The tractor dyno’s at 118 hp off the PTO
Honestly I think the forward swinging door is better cause you just crawl straight in
I'll take the Massey Ferguson 😊
Cat and JD cabs are smaller. You find out why on real hot days. Must easier to keep smaller cabs cool and comfortable.
Where is the differential lock?
On the right side of the seat toward rear. Although My Tractor has it, l believe it was an option.
Tengo un tractor mase ferguson 1105 y el bolante da buelta para derecha nomas no quiere dar para el otro lado como le ago0
T/A when used like it's designed to be used will last...improper use is what kills them
What is the correct way to use it to avoid damage? There's seems to be a lot of confusion on this topic.
