Pro Tip: When removing older switches, leave the solder on the middle pad. When you go to solder in the new switch heat up the pad and the switch will slide right in. You can then solder the other two points in easily without having to worry about the switch being flush with the PCB or moving around. :)

My G305 started double clicking recently and I thought it was toast. I went out and but a superlight, but honestly didn't love it, especially for the price. A couple days later I saw this video and since I already have a soldering kit, I bought the silent switches off aliexpress and made the swap today, and now my G305 is better than ever! I was able to return the superlight and I am loving my silent G305. Thanks a lot for making this video!

This is awesome! I wish this sort of electronics was more common knowledge because there is far too much e-waste. At minimum every neighborhood should have a person that can make a good living repairing stuff like this! I'd love to return to a day when things were made to last and/or be repaired rather than tossed into the waste stream.

    • @aBunnyThatWillChewOnYourCables
      @aBunnyThatWillChewOnYourCables 2 роки тому +2

So true. Many people are ignorant about waste and the environment and just toss things away that could easily be repaired. I taught myself how to solder to be able to fix a broken led rgb strip a few months ago and since then I have fixed so many electronic devices that my family would have otherwise chucked away.

Just did this mod. Thanks wildcat.
Everyone is talking about how quiet they are, but they also rebound fast. The standard omrons on the g305 kind of bind up on me if I try to quickly click with minimal travel. The omrons won't lift back up without me taking alot of pressure of my finger. The kailh silent however.... rebound nice and quick with no effort. So I'm back to clicking quick again. The only other clicks that were even close to this good for me were the g303's (in reference to speed).

i had to fix my mouse recently aswell. there's actually a way to fix the without desoldering the switch. you can open the switch just like a mechanical keyboard one and you can just bend the metal leaf back into shape that has be slowly mis-shapen over time. you dont even need to desolder the switch to open in if you're careful. the parts are quite small so anyone who wants to try this be very careful

Yeah I saw that mod before doing this and plus, a contact cleaner can also fix this. (but not good for long term)

I was able to fix it by washing the copper spring inside the switch with alcohol, no bending needed. I kinda suspect it's dust or corrosion or something. I do wonder how much more life it'll put into the device.

It's been 3 years. Do the new silent switch also double click now? Kailh GM 8.0s only last 10 months in my g305 so I found your video looking for tear down videos again. LOL

I had to replace the middle mouse click in my G Pro wireless and the kailh silents were the only size I could find - didn't realize you can use those for main mouse clicks too!!!

Nice video, after watching this I did the same thing, i replaced my G403 Hero switches with the silent ones, it was time consuming but worth it, they don't sound that much as they do in the video on the G305 but that might be because of the different model, yet they still sound amazing, I will be uploading a video with the results shortly.

Was getting bored with my g304 (nothing's wrong with it, it's one of the most durable mouse I ever used) .
But I wanted to splurge on a new mouse... then I found what mods I could do to it for cheap. I did this mod and installed some $2 grip tape from aliexpress... Holy shit I like this mouse a whole lot more now.
Nice silent clicks with awesome grips.
Total cost of the mods = $4
    10/10 would recommend

it's funny how the keyboard evolution went from silent (membrane keyboard) to clicking/clanking sound (mechanical keyboard) but the mouse is evolving in opposite direction from clicking sound to silent 😂😂

Hey, can you tell me what Solder you are using? Looks compact and performant at the same time. The big Soldering Stations from Weller are to clumsy for my taste.
