There is something of a resurgence in places... due to the problems of composite designs in the face of custom builds .. Spirit yatchs are but one. They tend to use bio epoxies to protect the wood but new chemicaly engineered soft woods can be used in place of not just traditionally ressiliant rare hard woods but metals and composites. With the advantages of wood but far more resiliant and acting as renewable carbon sinks... that are toxin free. Acoya and Inventwoods Metelwood are two examples of whats becoming possible .
Bowsprit super cool .I like it very much . Extremely classic design wooden sailboat ⛵️ Congratulations. Thanks for sharing Greetings from beautiful tropical paradise island Kauai, Hawaii.
its a wonderful boat, but i like the safety and reliability of steel to absorb hull damage also how easy it is to cut into the hull and repair with very basic welding tools. but there are drawbacks like you will need to have hull coatings and use sacrificial zinc anodes. the boat is heaver so performance is impacted.
Why are you watching a channel about wooden boats if you prefer steel construction? In my view of it, steel is for building modern cargo ships, liners and tankers. A bronze fastened wooden boat is a thing that actually gets along with seawater. I don't see any reason to entertain the idea of a steel recreational vessel. Also, I'd argue that wood is easier to repair while underway. Suitable wood for reparing a boat can be found anywhere in the world and you can keep the tools to work it on board. Appropriate steel and welding equipment not so much.
@@krockpotbroccoli65 its about the hull design and rig construction. they can look identical but be made out of different material so the aesthetic properties are not lost.
@@unguidedone the aesthetic properties of wooden boats include the feel of the boat underway. No steel, nor glass fiber boat is going to ever have the lovely feel of a sea kindly wooden boat. Nor the acoustics. And while steel has the best modulus of elasticity of the usual materials, I'd venture most sailors don't seek to run onto rocks and reefs, so use skill rather than brute strength to get by.
Now THAT is a bowsprit! Absolutely gorgeous boat.
beautiful. thank christ people are still building wooden boats .🙂
Lovely piece of work. Who designed it?

I don't think I'd be able to identify a larch. I wish there was an instructional film on the subject.

Larch isn’t native to the Uk
Only a fool sails without a proper lifejacket, worn, all the time. Many have died doing so, especially sailing solo. .
