I have heard Lifeline JP version was much stricter and responsive with the microphone commands than the western copies. I tried Binary Domain with mic commands, but it backfired on me too many times to keep it.

Manhunt on PS2 had a nice headset gimmick - you could use the mic to generate noise to attract victims, but more alarmingly, the “director’s” horrible suggestions now go just into your ears, not out the tv. Very sinister...

Thank you for that, had no idea! Information about microphone uses in games isn't compiled anywhere that I could find

@@Protoman85 There’s one other I can think of - there’s Tom Clancy’s EndWar RTS game on Xbox360 where you “command the troops”. When it works... I suppose it illustrates how important communication is when in conflict.
Love your videos by the way

Biggest nightmare was having a game for the Nintendo DS which needed the use of a microphone. My Nintendo DS had a broken microphone so I couldn´t get through most recipies in Cooking mama, I was so distraught as a child. I think the most advanced microphone use was for Love Plus at the time, still can´t believe how well it worked!

yea mic games are very intresting to say the least
but i will quickly say this with the 3ds there was one game that used the mic that wasn't made by Nintendo
and it was Azure Striker Gunvolt 2
see during the final boss for the normal ending playing as Gunvolt (there's 2 MC in the game)
there's a part were you lose the power of anthem (it's a power that sometimes pops up when you die giving you a 2nd chance and more power)
so in the part you have to sing it to continue the fight it (thankfully only for a little bit not the whole fight)
thankfully for me i was at home when i was playing it and no one was at home at the time cos wow would that be embarrassing in public (and probably give me a damn panic attack)
but yeah that singing part is only on the 3ds version all other version's don't make ya sing mainly cos they don't know if you have a mic on ya

Really fascinating video! I´m especially intrigued by the PS2 games, such creative use of the microphone! Operator´s Side sure seems weird with this 100% apathic woman but it also seems like an extraordinarily unique experience. My beginner´s Japanese would probably get me nowhere though. Still, by watching some gameplay video it could be a good (but frustrating) vocabulary practice for me! Also, since it was localized as Lifeline I could play it in English...

I got stuck a while trying to figure out the word for.. the part of a vending machine where the thing you bought falls down into? I don't even really know what is in english OR swedish... but now I know it's 取り出し口 in japanese so I've got that going for me

That’s some obscure vocabulary! I’d go with ”fack” in Swedish :)

Does anyone remember this game? It was a game I played on my dads iPad when I was younger (early 2010s) and I remember having to speak in a microphone to play the game. It had a yellow monster or character and he had a friend but I forgot what he looked like (he may have been blue). I remember it being in a Hollywood set up and there were different ig rooms or buildings to do things.
Does anyone know what I’m talking about? I feel like I’m going crazy. I’ve been trying to find this game but I haven’t found anything yet.

I absolutely loved Lifeline when I played it! Would love to see more done with the tech now that voice recognition is so much better...maybe the reason Konami have been abandoning all their franchises is because they've been spending the last 10 or so years perfecting Operator's Side 2?

The ps4 version of alien isolation can also uses the mic to detect the player's voice and let the xenomorph know your location. On the pc side, there's a lot more games that use the mic like phasmophobia.
