This song, imo, is symbolic of not just the movie, but of South Park in general. It shows that children may seem innocent and view the world as magical, but there is also a hidden dark side to them. In the context of the movie, that can relate to things like the swearing, the bits with Satan/Hussein etc.
You're so lucky! I remember convincing my mom to rent this for me when I was around 12 in the mid 2000s along with Team America! Boy, that was awkward😅@@oblongfan1
As humorous as the lyrics are, this song as a whole including the music is beautifully done. When I listen to this song, I can't help but think back to all the good times I had in my childhood and it does make me a little sad that those years are long gone. Even though my childhood was a long time ago, I'll always treasure those happy memories.
This song just feels amazing, because South Park is an amazing show too. This song just feels emotional, knowing I grew up on South Park so much as a kid and I remember watching this once and loved it. The song’s lyrics are beautiful, meaningful, and despite the movie being a crazy adventure, the song makes you appreciate life as it is. W song.

This song makes me realize how much of an effort trey park and matt stone have had on my sense of humor, my personality and how I look at things in my everyday life, thank you 😭❤
This is a song you can't appreciate unless you're an adult who've already lost that magical feeling long ago. I remember when I could be amused by everything, when I wasn't such a cynical dipsh*t that can't enjoy anything but the "best". Things that I once loved now seem like sh*t, when I look back there are beautiful memories but when I actually look at the material again, I feel bored to death and lose any and all nostalgia. What wouldn't I give to go back to that time, when I didn't have any real worries, when I didn't live just for the sake of living, when I could have fun with anything and enjoy things for real, not for how much of a "masterpiece" it is but just because of how it's "interesting" and "fun" it is, no matter how bad the story, gameplay or anything else is. To wake up feeling refreshed and happy... To have fun with friends, to not have all of these responsibilities on my shoulders and the mind to care about them too much. Hell, to just be rid of all the different "minor" injuries and lifelong sicknesses I've gathered throughout my life that ends up impairing my quality of life every day, just that alone would be too awesome for words. I mean, don't get me wrong, I still believe in the beauty of life and I still want to make the most out of it, I have times of great joy and laughter, I can find awesome books/novels, games and other stuff that I enjoy extremely much. But to go back to when EVERYTHING was truly enjoyable and fun, not just 1% as it tends to be now, and to go back to the time where I didn't have any issues with an aching body and various illnesses, that would just be too awesome for words. We do find some new entertainment to enjoy as we grow older, interests change and we adapt to still manage to find some way to amuse ourselves and go on even as our quality of life "gets sh*ttier", but it just can't compare to our childhood, not by a long shot, when our biggest concerns were parents telling us to go to bed, not eat this or that, not be out late and that we had to go to school. Back when we were brimming with more energy than we could shed and more spirit and joy than we could handle. Living a rather tired life filled with various annoyances for the occasional glimpse of joy and happiness just ain't the same.
i mean i can relate . im now 34 and miss life when i was around i was 13 (when this movie came out ) things were carefree and less worrisome. the economy was good. seems like the world really did change after 9/11 for the worst. anyone under 30s or mid 20s really dont understand.
Trey parker wrote this song. For those who don't know, trey is actually a very talented lyricist. I think he actually studied poetry stuff in college. I feel like the second Trey Parker saw his budget for the South Park movie he immediately set this money aside to achieve his life-long dream of Michael McD performing a song he wrote.
Even though this song is meant to be funny, I can’t help but cry every time I listen to it. When I was a kid, I wanted nothing more to be a grown up just like my mom and dad, and I promised them I would never miss being a kid. Now that I’m 19, I wish I could take those words back and be a kid one more time more than ever, nowadays life is boring and all I ever do is work and pay my bills and subscriptions, and I usually ever get to have any fun like I did when I was 9. Even though the lyrics are written for humor, I’d like to think of them as meaningful words that mean you should always cherish life’s moments that don’t last forever, because you never know what you’re gonna miss. Thank you, Michael McDonald for singing this song for Matt and Trey, I wish you well, man.

[Intro]
Mm
[Verse 1]
The eyes of a child, so innocent and pure
A child's heart is full of song
Take their tiny hand, and lead them to the light
As adults, we see pain in the world
And it sometimes don't seem right
[Chorus]
But through the eyes of a child
The world seems magical
There's a sparkle in their eyes, they've yet to realize
The darkness in their soul
The beauty of their smile
Adventurous and wild
Life is kinda gay, but it doesn't seem that way
Through the eyes of a child
[Verse 2]
So don't give up, even when the road seems long
Just find that child inside of you
Yeah, you've gotta find you
Spread your wings and fly to the brightest star
If you want, I can even get my friend, Steve, to detail your car
For, like, twenty bucks
[Chorus]
But through the eyes of a child
The world seems magical
There's a sparkle in their eyes, they've yet to realize
The darkness in their soul
The beauty of their smile
Adventurous and wild
Sure, life is kinda gay, but it doesn't seem that way
Through the eyes of a child (Through the eyes, through the eyes)
[Bridge]
Got an eye on my hand
I've got an eye on my hand
I've got an eye on my hand
But still, I can't find you
Eye on my hand
Where have you gone, girl?
Eye on my hand
I'm coming up behind you
Eye on my hand
Don't turn around now
'Cause I'm right there
I'm coming up behind you
[Chorus]
Through the eyes of a child
The world seems magical
There's a sparkle in their eyes (Ooh), yet to realize
The bastards they really are
The beauty of their smile
Adventurous and wild
Sure, life is kinda gay, but it doesn't seem that way
Through the eyes of a child
[Outro]
Sure, life is kinda gay, but it doesn't seem that way
Through the eyes of a child

I obviously didn't get any of the jokes until i grew up but i still thought the film and series were hilarious because of all the swering. I still find the movie and the show hilarious and now I'm older i get all the jokes! Yay!
This is a great South Park and it’s perfect for slow dancing and when a future comes I would play that song at my wedding.
Masterpiece
This is probably the greatest parody of those Disney Award Bait songs from their Renascence period.
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut *(1999)*
Been loving this song since I got this movie on VHS in the early 2000 :D
I think theyre trying to take the piss out of those 'pop versions' of Disney songs that they always have play during the credits?
absolutely beautiful. masterpiece.
Such an awesome song
I forgot about the upbeat part of this song, made me so happy to hear it again :)
for, like, 20 bucks? sounds like a pretty good deal
Shea S If South Park gets a Series Finale I want this song to be its ending theme with clips from the Episodes of the Seasons for the end credits it would be the best and perfect thing for South Park's Series Finale I would totally love it.
Inflation though, it's probably 45 bucks to get it done with steve these days man
I'm gonna sue these invisible ninjas cutting onions in here
I'm surprised this song didn't get Oscar nominated like Blame Canada did.
I feel like the second Trey Parker saw his budget for the South Park movie he immediately set this money aside to achieve his life-long dream of Michael McD performing a song he wrote.
I bet the creating process was pure hilarity
*Happy 22nd Anniversary of South Park Bigger Longer Uncut (1999)*
Thank you, Michael McDonald for singing this song for Matt and Trey, I wish you well, man.
a typical ending credit song with a South Park twist
Man now I want Micheal McDonald’s friend Steve to detail my car.
my dog pass away :( i love this music so bad reminds me of my pitbull i will always remember her in great time together :')
Happy 23rd anniversary, South Park.
The Closing Logos Of This Movie Brought me here
What a great song !
I was 5 years old when this movie came out
It has no reason to go this hard
2:22 Nice of them to include an early preview of “Pan’s Labyrinth: The Musical.”
Back than I had best friends and now they have kids( young adults) and there well this explains it all.
Top notch.
The type of song that would be played during the end credits for a movie like South Park
Definitely on my Top 10 Anime Ending Themes
Man this song makes me sad I think I'm gonna cry
+Jaiden Anthony
Let-it-out, buddy.
You ain't human if this song doesn't make you cry, at least a little.
Wow, a parody of can you feel the love tonight that was done well
Either this song or Up There should have been nominated for an award, no offence to those whom enjoyed Blame Canada....Even though that song is MUCH more relevant NOW than it has ever been
Why does it sound like it's Trey doing a Michael McDonald impression 🤣🤣🤣
damn 20 bucks? thats not bad lol
I didnt think this track suited South Park but hearing it again it makes a perfect tribute to Mary Kay Bergman
