Drone, you are bang on there. When you see the scope and taste of all he offers? He's an underrated genius. Sometimes guitarists should be judged on their "listen-ability".
Don’t say “possibly”. Johnny is ridiculous man. His lines are clean, on-point harmonically, rhythmically, and tonally. He does what he does better than others.
It's the music that drew me in, but it's the characters like this which keep me hooked on it. Agreed that people need to stop looking at who the system presents to us as heroes. Respect.
I'm sure we can all agree that this fellas playing puts a smile on your face and a bruise on your ego 🤘 Also one of the nicest humans on this planet, such a humble bloke and easily up in the lists with the best on the instrument, what an absolute mega dude.
"HOWDY ! how is everybody doing " obviously not as good as you. Show off... "is everyone having a good time " YAHOO....Damnit boy ! I wish I was there. Blessings from tomato patch texas.
@@MAGAMAN I often say I'm a guitar owner rather than a guitar player. But I agree, and also if you have your own licks, OWN them. Over play and abuse them
Country guitar players are the best electric guitarists in the world. They can play anything, rock, jazz or country. Danny Gatton(RIP), Steve Wariner, Brent Mason, Albert Lee and on and on....
Country is the flamenco of the electric guitar in the sense that it’s _incredibly_ difficult and taxing to play, requiring a lot of stamina, but that they also both squeeze out _every possible sound_ from their instruments, and sometimes in the most ingenious and resourceful of ways. Country players are definitely a different breed.
Johnny could do an informercial for whatever supplement he's on during this performance. He's bringing it big time!! Yes, yes he had to take an intro break, who could blame 'em. This is like the part in Back to the Future, but this is the real life version!!!
While reading some comments regarding the late great Danny gatton some folks mentioned this gentleman.i was not familiar..thank you I am now.impressive to say the least.
Just kick ass, all around. The only part of his playing that is about average is hit tapping but you gotta love that too. He's stooping down to everyone's level in that technique but he brings it back to his chicken picken up the ying yang!
IMHO, he is not stooping; rather, throwing in something into the mix to throw the listeners off balance (I almost fell off my chair laughing) - who would have thought tapping in the middle of chicken picking?
@@andrewpayne6295 Instead of holding a pick between the pointer finger and thumb, a thumb pick has a ring attached. You slide it over your thumb and you can have your pointer finger free, amongst other benefits. Country players use it a lot, often with similar picks added to their pointer finger and/or others. Very hard to get accustomed to.
Tommy can tear it up on the electric guitar. I got to see him in Saint Louis, MO a few years back and it was absolutely phenomenal watching him do what he does best.
All you former 5 and 6 night a week bar band bums like i used to be. Back me up if this sounds Familiar to you.... You happen to have one of these guutar nukes in your band (not quite JH but really hot) was it my Imagination or did they ALWAYS PLAY TOO LOUD? Just like almost every JH live gig i've ever heard. Terrible mix!!! And its just about always because of him!!! These Hot rod fighter pilots just have NO clue about what makes the overall sound coming off the stage sound better or worse. In their defense, I honestly dont think they're listening. If you could drill down into their brain they might be thinking, "i aint no sound engineer!! Im a guitar wonder from space, so shut up and leave me alone!!!!" Just like beautiful, spoiled girls, WHAT WOULD WE DO WITHOUT'EM??? You go head on Johnny... You're AMAZING ENOUGH to say, "The hell with a mix, just listen to this!!!!💥🎶🎵🎶
Aw c'mon dude...Johnny is amazing but Stevie is just as good in his own way. Stevie was the sequel to Hendrix. And guitarists like Johnny are the new generation of masters, adding new flavor to the musical stew that has been brewing for a long time.
No. Just... ...no. Both are great, but SRV was all about soul and feel, and plus he had a terrific singing voice and stage presence. Johnny Hiland is more about speed, flash and mixing disparate styles. Very innovative. But comparing SRV to Johnny H isn't even an "apples to oranges" comparison. More like tomatoes to pineapples. Couldn't be more different.
He really is something, I dont under stand it. He could draw a crowd if they would help him out a little. He needs some singers maybe, some girls that can all sing lead too. You know mix it up a little . .
This man is undersold as hell. Possibly one of the greatest alive today.
Gary Moore, SRV & Hendrix have all left, Page & Clapton would struggle to hit a clean E Chord these days . So I agree.

Didn't know that there were any decent guitarists left anymore lol!!
he is the greatest one alive, along with (only) a few others
Man I can't imagine playing a guitar solo after Johnny..
You just automatically sound like Lil Wayne's guitar solo.
I cant imagine playing a guitar solo
Wanna talk about underrated? The hell with athletes this man is the GOAT. Unreal. And a great human. Great role model!
It's the music that drew me in, but it's the characters like this which keep me hooked on it. Agreed that people need to stop looking at who the system presents to us as heroes. Respect.
Which book?
Agreed, great role model
His playing is so slick & clean, without a fault and fluid as hell! Undoubtedly one of the best guitarist on earth.
I'm sure we can all agree that this fellas playing puts a smile on your face and a bruise on your ego 🤘

Johnny is right up there with the very best guitarists on the planet. This guy can literally play it all.
That back line is just unstoppable. What a joy to play with such a tight group.
The epitome of a great player, tone, skill, most of all a very humble down to earth guy
"HOWDY ! how is everybody doing " obviously not as good as you. Show off... "is everyone having a good time " YAHOO....Damnit boy ! I wish I was there. Blessings from tomato patch texas.
This guy is so incredibly fast and perfect in timing. It's unbelievable.
"Before we get goin'"??? You already killed everybody with that smokin' instrumental.
Probably the greatest guitarist alive in the world today.
GO JOHNNY GO!!
Johnny's the man!! The best picker alive today!
"Fusion Country" Awesome!
That is a GREAT description!!!!
Undoubtedly one of the most if not the best guitarists on this earth!
Friggin' monster player, boys!! How it's done!!

Monster band! All of them!!!
Johnny can really play that guitar like he owns it, and the band is amazing. God bless you guys.

I play my guitar like I own it. I'm not that good, but I do own it.

Rather undersold as heaven , everything good comes from heaven
I'm a guitarist, just come here after watching a Clapton vid. To my mind there is no doubt who is God. The Big Man.
He is sensational. Love his guitar. Thanks.
JOHNNY BE THE MAN.

Wow. That was a barrage of talent and skill.
Wanna play on stage after this Ledgenary guitar 🎸 player good luck with that better you than me!
Please Johnny, do a session with Scotty Anderson
Best player I ever heard so fast.
Who is that bass player? MAN!!
His playing sound very 90's and reminds me a bit of Scott Henderson's "Dog Party" album ..

Like to see him and Jon 5 together
😎🎶🎶👍👍
Is that a Rosewood body on that axe or just dyed Ash? Sounds really great.
It looks like the wood was sandblasted. As for the color/finish, not sure.
99% sure it's a swamp ash bodied Kiesel. Finish is trans crimson with a satin coat.
I think he figured out the thumb pick😂😂😂😂 what a savage

Love the accent. His guitar playing isn't bad either.
I love the way Johnny plays : Barnyard Butt-Fuckers...
Nice .... the use of that thumb pick upped Johnny's playing big time.

Johnny was forced to switch to a thumb pick because of a medical condition.
He’s like a calm, strange Tommy Emmanuel on electric. But better. I think he may be better.
