I believe the main reason why drivers in Europe yield to emergency vehicles with flashing blue lights and sirens is because they only use both in truly urgent situations. From what I understand, in the U.S., ambulances always drive with blue lights and sirens, which might make people pay less attention over time. Here in Europe, we know that when both the lights and sirens are on, it means they need to get somewhere quickly. Emergency services can also choose to drive with just blue lights or even without them if the situation isn’t as critical.
