Portugal is an amazing wine country full of all sorts of grape varieties, most of which are indigenous; this means they are from Portugal and they never left! This makes the wines authentic and real, as well as adapted to their climate. Many are big rich reds, but there are also some amazing whites, especially from up north. Some of the more common grapes are Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Alvarinho, but there are many others! It looks like only 6 grapes were added to the list of permitted varietals in Bordeaux. Petit Manseng was proposed but not accepted.

Careful in there, Tinta Roriz is not considered an indigenous grape, it's another name for Tempranillo, it can also go by Aragonez in the Alentejo.

Tinta Roriz is Tempranillo and Alvarinho is Albariño..the same grapes.
