I have One question Maangchi, Can I use nori sheets to make this soup?
No, nori (gim in Korean) and miyeok (seaweed used for this video) are different.
@@Maangchi then how about nori soup? In korean language, gim guk
@@blooming895 nori / gim turns to mush when exposed to hot water. For soups and salads you need wakame / miyeok.
Wow 13 years ago!!! Now 2021 I'm so glad I found you! Thank you for your videos!!
OMG, this video uploaded at 2007!! And I'm watching this at 2019 LOL

Wow!!! This video is 12 years old. Amazing. Thank you for being consistent Ajuma Maangchi. You are my go to for all things Korean cooking, your recipes are so simple and easy to follow. 감사합니다👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Dearest Maangchi-shi, I have been following your videos for so long. I am a mother and a teacher and I am Korean-American...you have no idea how important your videos are to me. I can't speak Korean and I don't cook very well from those Korean cookbooks. My husband is very fluent and is 100% Korean, so we are both indebted to your cooking lessons. THANK YOU and may God bless and answer all your heart's desire.
In Korea, there's a superstition among school students...they should not have seaweed soup before a big test. Because seaweed soup is slippery, students believe the seaweed will make the knowledge "slip" their minds. So if a Korean student does poorly on a test, he/she often says, "I had seaweed soup last night!"
Really? I remember Korean people eat seaweed soup on their birthday.
Sad for those people who has their birthday just before their tests
안녕하세요
Lol
Lmao
Yes, all koreans eat this soup on their birthday. : )
sunsavesmoney
Thank you, I will try to keep posting. : )

Thank you for sharing so many Korean tradition food. I wish I could learn this soup many year ago. I love seaweed because my parents and my relative like to make seaweed dishes all the time. Once I knew there is Korean seaweed soup from Korean drama and I wanted to try. Unfortunately this soup are not available in a Korean restaurant. I believe this soup like Korean home made soup. These 2 months I am always visit your website all the time and I finally found this recipe. It is really great taste with beef brisket. I also teach my mom how to make this soup. Lol ....Wish you all the best and stay safe.

Thank you! Happy New Year!
Freezing the garlic is a great idea. Thank you.
I know this video is eight years old but, I just mad both the soup and the salad.
The salad was absolutely delicious. I'll be making it over & over again. The soup also was so good. I added two packets of Japanese Hondashi for an extra kick of flavor. It absolutely put it over the top for deliciousness.
Thanks for these great recipes.
Thank you.

It must have been so cold there. Be careful not to catch a cold! : )
We had a big snow storm yesterday here.
I picked the beef brisket in the meat section at a grocery store. When I make beef soup, I always use brisket part. Thank you!

OMGSH!!! I am so happy that I found you!! Thank you Maangchi
mangchiii can u make a new version of thisss?
I just wanted to tell you that the thing you've started doing with the minced garlic is ingenious, when I get home, I'm going to take that big bag of garlic I get at CostCo and peel it and food process it and put it in the freezer! Thank you for that very helpful tip! I love your videos, the food you make is awesome!

Yes, I think that's miyuk salad. Sometimes, you will find salad that looks like shredded seaplant which is made of miyuk stem.
Yesterday I went to my favourite Asian grocery store and they had this kind of sewed for only one dollar. Of course, I had to buy it. Now I want to make this when I am stuck away from my family for easter pga. Corona. It would be awesome if you made a new video for this soup 😊
i often cook this easy recipe for emergency food. loveeee it...
I made both tonight n were delicious!!! Thank u n luv ur recipes!!!😁
yay! : )
+Maangchi is it ok if i use pork or chicken as i am not a big fan of beef
+shriya mgr of course, but beef is better, maybe beef flavor
+shriya mgr You can use also clam instead of beef. But it's gonna taste different.
you cool,too!
Wivanunu
Yes, the fish sauce is very very salty. If it is too bland for you, add some more fish sauce or salt after making it. I like soup which is not salty. Thanks!
i really like this soup..this soup is the first i cook because this soup also is my number 1 soup in korean soup..hehehe..i cook again this soon..
You have improved so much, and the quality of your videos has improved tremendously over the years! I think your personality on camera is even much better! But, you are always cute and fun to watch!

annyoung! Yes, it's healthy food, too.
Thank you!

I love all your videos, especially the new ones (cause its nicer, hehe) i hope you keep doing this. You really inspire me to cook more
Nice meeting you through my UA-cam channel! Good luck with your Korean cooking!

That's a very good point that you are worried about loss of some nutrients such as iodine when the seaplant is soaked and rinsed. However, I will rinse it because I am also worried about eating the dust that accumulates when it is being dried.
When you make soup using beef, beef should be added in boiling water. If you put the beef into cold water and boil it, blood from the beef will come out and the soup will look brownish. You can check out my radish soup video where I used the same method.
You are right! It's healthy food.

You are awesome, too!
Thanks!

LeylaRandomness
hi, Thank you very much! Please update me how your soup goes later.
How about seafood such as clams and shrimp? The reason I use meat or seafood is to make the broth delicious.
When I lived in Korea, someone made this for us, but they didn't have any meat in it. I think it would have tasted better with some beef. Thanks for this recipe.
One of my favourites... I've made it a few times. I like to use a little beef stock in it for flavour. Also I make one that doesn't have the beef brisket in it. The one without the beef I use the dried anchovy stock.
I have made this soup from memory and taste before but was unsure if I got it right. My method was a tiny bit different but correct for the most part. The only thing I left out was the fish sauce. While I did use soy sauce, I think the fish sauce would make the soup closer to what I used to have every year for my birthday. I am certainly going to have to try this again!
Thanks my friend, this night I'm gone make it.🙏🙏🙏😊
I was on a fast and tried it with fish. Thank you for sharing.
My parents just moved to the other side of the country--I'm going to have to learn to cook Korean food for myself now! This is going to help so much, thank you :)
thanks and happy holidays to you too! congratulations on your 16th video!
yummy! I always want to know how to make this soup. And the salad looks good too. Keep up your videos. You'll be the famous korean chef on youtube

So this was maAngchi 12 years ago.. you really deserve a grown channel.
Oh my god, this video is from 2007 :O
I was 6 yrs...
Maangchi,
Have you ever thought of talking about regular ingredients that Korean Cooking requires or what's typically in your pantry? It would be neat to know how you stock your pantry. :)
I can't wait to try some more recipes out. I have been lazy of late when it comes to cooking. eek!
yes, you can skip the beef. How about using some mushrooms in it?
@sky00002 yes, wakame is miyuk (or miyeok) in Korean. Thanks!
Lol. I found maangchi old video recipe. I love it.
punkonthis
lol, You must be curious what my pantry looks like. Answer: "it's very messy and crowded" : )
Thank you for your interest in my cooking videos.

Happy Birth Day!!!
Yes, I wrote about it on my blog, check it out please. After reading it, you may not want to try it. : ) I can't explain what flavor it has.
Hello maangchi.... Today i make this recipe.... It's so good.. Tqs 😊😊😊😊
OMG! Thank you, this is my favorite Korean soup! My mom used to make this for me when I was a little girl.
I will make this today, wish me luck
Baby kenora and Family Said did u make it?? how was it??
kimchibabygurl
Yes, miyuk salad will be better taste when served cold.
Made the soup for my bday... it was delicious. mmm i would like to make it again.
Happy Birthday!
bertinintowncenter, I think the corned beef brisket is cured to retain the red color we associated with corned beef. It also has a flavor even without adding the spice pouch (which I think is mostly for aroma).
@dyanjennica09 yes, when it's soaked, it will have strong flavor but it's usual. Check the package of the sea plant you have. Does it say "미역" (miyeok)? If so, you got the right ingredient.
@Korea4Me Happy Holidays!
ok, I will try to be healthy. : ) I should not eat too much food. : )
Currently engrossed with kdramas and everything that is Korean! Seaweed soup with lance sand sauce😍
Oh, thanks for your quick reply.
Can't wait to make this soup for my family and my birthday is round the corner...hee...hee...
This looks very easy and yummy. Especially the soup. Thank you!
I use fish sauce instead of salt or soy sauce.Check my written recipe on my website.
Happy Birthday! : )
Yummy 😋
