I rarely meet people with whom I instantly connect-but Fred & Kate are the exception.
One day, on my way to an interview in Bangkok, I passed a small shop and noticed a foreigner behind the counter-an unusual sight. My curiosity got the best of me, and I walked in after a moment of hesitation.
That’s how I met Fred. Friendly, welcoming, and full of energy. He and his partner Kate were running the shop together-Fred at the counter, Kate busy selling salads. A quick conversation led to an exchange of contacts, and just like that, a new story began.
Fred & Kate are a true power couple-supporting, pushing, and elevating each other. Fred had a dream; Kate believed in it. In February 2024, they opened Patachoo, a sandwich and salad shop at the Asok interchange in downtown Bangkok.
But dreams come with challenges. Eight months into their journey, I sat down with them to talk about the highs and lows and what it really takes to build something from the ground up.
How did they do it? What kept them going? And how are they doing now?

I’m Leander, a filmmaker and storyteller driven by my own journey to discovering my bliss.
