Great video. In regards to the use of antisieze this is what Denso says in their guide on installing spark plugs "If you apply grease or another screw thread lubricant to the threaded part of the plug, you are liable to tighten the plug to an excessive degree, impairing the integrity of the seal, even if you apply no more than the recommended torque. For this reason, do not coat the plug with screw thread lubricant."
Brilliant video , just changed my plugs and coil packs , just hit 200.000km , petrol 4litre V6.. As you said , " passenger side looks daunting but with the help from your video I managed to do it all in an hour.. cheers
Not true there will be nkg on one side then denso on the other side the factory does this because they have contracts with both companies!!!! This engine calls for standard spark plugs not iridium! I am not trying to be a ass.
You are correct. I was pretty confused when I first changed my used 03 Sport 4Runners plugs in 2015. I thought maybe the previous owner only changed the “easy” side and said “fuck it” on the other. I chose the stock NGK plugs but would certainly consider the Iridium version of either stock plug were it available. Why not choose the longer life option all other factors being the same. Does anyone know if there is a suitable Iridium alternative to the stockers out there? BTW, 53k miles later (203k on the clock) she is still running like a champ and the plugs are great.
Hi. Anyone know why the later version 1GR-FE uses 0w-20 instead of the 5w-30 in this engine? I heard it said manufacturers suggest lighter weight oils in the specs to meet economy ratings? In other words and if it were the case, it would be perfectly fine to use the heavier weight oil on an engine specified for the lighter weight?
Because the government is demanding higher MPG from the car manufacturers and do achieve this they use thinner and thinner oils. Using a slightly heavier oil is fine just make sure you change it at regular intervals.
@@bundysgarage @Vanuatoo is correct. You should not use anti-seize. Spark plug manufacturers specifically say to NOT use anti-seize because, 1) they already coat their plugs with a zinc compound to mitigate seize, and 2) using anti-seize adds extra lubricant making it possible to over-torque plugs when installing.

I like that you started on the difficult side first.
Thank you for sharing!! I just bought a used 2007 4Runner 4.0 and look forward to doing a lot of the work on it myself and joining the 4th gen family!
Thank you man.. The internet is a better place with people like u
Amazing video, you just gained another follower, not many tackle the difficult side first. Very informative, and straight to the point.
Thanks for the comment. Glad it helped you out!
Thanks for posting. Your video does a better job of explaining the process vs. a Hanes manual.
U saved me a lot of money 💰. The dealer want to charge me over $300. 🙏🏼 thank u
Glad it helped you out! Subscribe about to have a bunch of Toyota videos come out!
Thanks for this video. I was unsure about how to do the driver side. This video was very clear.
Glad it helped you out!
Thank you sir. I’ve got a 09 xrunner due for a spark plug change and your was very helpful.
Hope it helps you out
Cool trick with 3/4 in rubber hose!
Yes. Needs copper plugs though. Requires a lower resistance on the electrode. Change every 30k miles. K20HR-U11 Denso
can you install the iridium plugs instead?
Thank you for this well explained video. You just saved be 150.00. Toyota dealership would charge that amt. Thanks again
That's what Bundys Garage is all about, saving people money!!!
Thanks! The 1GR-FE is also in the Toyota Prado (Australia).
Thanks for the tip
@@bundysgarage I did the job tonight. Thanks for the vid!
this V6 is fitted to the Hilux in Australia thanks for the video
I would check with owners manual for the correct sparkplugs .those that your showing, according to my manual are for a 4 cylinder 2.7

Very well explained.
Thank you really help me with the right side
Awesome video. Thank you.

Thanks so much
You are welcome! I hope it helped you and and you were able to save some money doing it yourself!
What would be the ideal interval in miles, for replacing the plugs, Thank you
Would it not be possible to just drop the new spark plug with the magnetic wrench ?
You could. Just don’t let them “fall” down there. You could use a magnetic pick up tool as well if you wanted.
Does this procedure apply to a 2016 Tacoma V6 ? I saw the note regarding the 2016 Hilux V6 Engine bay however am a bit confused.

why u cant open the bolts off enginr cover??
How do you get rid of the tocking on the 1gr-fe engine
Is it really loud and change tempo when you rev up the RPM's?
@@bundysgarage yes. It's been like that for years now
Could be a number of things. Bad valves, bad valve adjustment, water pump going bad.
Why couldn’t the VQ40 be this easy getting to the plugs? Lol These 1GR’s are very easy to maintain.
Can anyone tell me the firing order ?
Its in the video.....
