This is such a thoughtful video with questions about love and partnership that can be applied beyond Korea. I like how you questioned if part of the structure of Kdramas is cultural propaganda about romantic partnership-- I ask those questions about US romcoms too! I think they both also have the frustrating side effect of teaching people that a constant rollercoaster of emotions and toxicity makes a relationship real and complex. When actually that rollercoaster of toxicity is really just for entertainment purposes and would better be avoided like the plague in reality. Great video, thoughtful and measured treatment of the topic, and great questions! Hope to see more from you
Thank you for watching! And yes! Great call on US Rom coms! I feel like even without media influence it's in some people's nature to not feel content in peace and need some sort of drama to feel relevant. Lol and I think that can lead into a whole other convo about personal childhood upbringing and trauma 😭 I'm glad you liked the video, and thank you for your thoughtful comment! I'll try to post more stuff like this!
Hi Nicki, randomly stumbled on this video. Your observations/take on the “couples culture” in Korea is quite profound and spot on. I always wondered why there’s so many couples in Korea, it’s so noticeable compared to other cultures. As you said, I think a big part of it is collectivism and feeling the pressure to be normal. Even if you’re fine being single, you often get comments from others as to how you should find someone soon (especially from the older generation), and I can see how that will make people feel antsy about their relationship status. Keep making these videos ☺️
Hello 👋🏽 Thank you for watching and leaving your thoughts! I think maybe in areas of the world where the traditional nuclear family reigns stronger, the pressure to be in a relationship is greater.
💌 written (typed) & sent with love. A lovely insightful video truly enjoyed it. Not sure if its series or a one of style choice, to talk about something you felt like sharing with us. If not the keep going and explore & wonder.😊💛🧡🤍 [liked hearing ur perspective 🙂 on social human complexities.]
Thank you so much hun!💕 Just kind of sharing my observations and thoughts. I've always kinda of wanted to make videos like this. I'll try to make more of them! I was thinking about keeping this style of video on tiktok, but I wanted to share it to my youtube community as well. I'm glad it was received well!
