I just wish that Henry had used the technical mistake as an ad hoc in his act i.e. "I"m the Mind Mangler and I practice real magical, unlike those clowns from Hogwarts."
I'm a huge fan of Mischief Theatre and I've seen this act so many times and it never fails to make me laugh. It's a shame the crowd sucked though, it was so dead
You might notice that Penn and Teller are credited in this routine. That's right, they actually invented the method for having the audience member successfully guess the color.
Well the way I believe its done for the show (which rumor has it this performance was planted) but for the real show, the color is written on the chalkboard remotely. A very common form of magic. Also for the Johns, someone else mentioned that he may watch for a hand when he asks for any Johns in and ignores who it was but remembers and comes to ask them again later
The trick is usually called Spirit Slates and has many different versions. Spoilers below: This method uses a fake hand on the top of the board. Using the misdirection of messing up he quickly writes the correct answer on the board.
The worst part is i actuly thought when it actuly went wrong it was just part of the show XD spose thats a great part of this group even if something actuly goes wrong noone is gonna notice or mind because that is the entire point of the show that it goes wrong all the time XD

Sounds about right, you'd think after 50 or so years the Beeb could manage to not cock up one of these nights. It doesn't inspire confidence in your guest performers when they see BBC employees running around like headless chickens trying to solve technical faults.
This is at least the third televised performance of this one act, but I like it because I get to see how they switch it up a little. It's a little harder with a small studio audience, but Hen always does great. On the slight negative, I wish they ended with a real trick instead of a stooge. (Which I believe is how it was originally written with Penn & Teller.) But I can appreciate this way how it's big and consistent.
Aww is the colour not a real trick? I thought they just told someone to say they were called John, and then there was genuine magic* behind the prediction. *well not genuine magic, you know what I mean
@@MisterAppleEsq Sadly, no. It could have been. There's a trick chalkboard called the "Lynx". It uses a wireless connection to have someone offstage enter the word. They specifically show a list of colors with more obscure names, like "fuchsia" or "beige". That way it's low tech and a more impressive result to everyone else. But not a real trick.
@@q-tuber7034 Exactly. And you may know Penn & Teller got a reputation for occasionally revealing tricks, because often a good trick is even more impressive when you know how. I think Jonathan saw that audience member John was uncomfortable with Henry's brusqueness yelling at him and encouraged him and said it's a great audience, great improv and audience support if intended
