    July 3rd, 2017 -- For my 79th outing of the year, I took my Dad to the Delaware Canal! Our main objective of the day was to catch some ESOX Species; in other words, the Chain Pickerel. Since my Dad's personal best Pickerel was under a pound, I really really wanted to put him on a bigger one. :)
    P.s. after watching this video, I hope you will never forget to PUT ON A LEADER for toothy critters. Haha.
    Read the full fishing report here: COMING SOON.

    Can definitely relate to the situation with your dad. My folks visit the US maybe twice a year, so I get to see them (maybe) 10-14 days out of the year. I try to get on the river with my dad as much as I can when he's here, but its tough! Definitely makes you appreciate family more.

    Good advice Leo. Pickerel have shred my line while Bass fishing. A leader will help. I know you love Senkos but when fishing shallow water like in the canal try Yum Dingers they sink slower than Senkos. Most strikes come on the fall and since the Dingers sink slower they stay in the strike zone longer.

    Nice fishing. At all times,I have a leader of 40 pound power pro on my line,to protect against pickerel cutting me off. They can sometimes get through that line,but only if it is worn,or chewed quite a bit. Most the time I have no issues with pickerel cutting me off anymore. If I were you,I would have thrown some inline spinners,and jig spinners. I get pickerel on those things a lot.

    Hi Leo! It has been a while since my time has allowed me to write a comment, great video, an also, up here in the Poconos we have a lot of Esox family fish all 3 pickerel native and naturalized (American pickerel {Esox americanus americanus} Redfin pickerel {Esox
    americanus vermiculturatus} and of course the Chain Pickerel {Esox niger}) And also Pike, Muskellunge And Tiger Muskellunge and we have adapted our fishing technique to adapt to these toothy critters, instead of using 6-15 lb mono/flouro, we use 15-40 lb Braid and also a pink weightless trick worm and fish it like a jerkbait or walking lure, on top or slightly submerged. Sorry for such a long comment, But good luck in Florida, and Tight Lines!

    I want an aquarium for a Chain Pickerel, but that would mean catching one because no one sells them for aquariums around me. This is a problem because the Pickerel's bigger brother, the Northern Pike, is a lot more prevalent than the Pickerel in my area.

    @Tigerpuffer 7 років тому

    Esox species usually dont survive scrapes or having lots of their slime taken off, especially in warmer conditions. They become very susceptible to a lethal fungal infection. Just so you know... you really shouldnt drag any fish through the grass, but pike and pickerel in particular. What doesn't phase a sturdy fish like a bass or a sunfish can very easily kill a pike. They arent as tough as they look.

    C'mon, Leo...don't be scared to say 'Esox Niger' -- 'Chain Pickerel.' There's absolutely nothing disrespectful or embarrassing about saying the fish's proper taxonomical name in Latin, just as there's absolutely nothing disrespectful or embarrassing about saying the name of the African state of 'Niger.' Don't let the ignorance and arrogance of Anglophone people stop you from speaking a foreign language. Context, 哥们.
    This reminds me of how one of my professors in college was reported for using hate speech because some students heard him speaking Chinese on the phone. Whenever he said the word "那个" (the Mandarin word for "that"), these ignorant students assumed he was saying a racial slur. He ended up being suspended! Thankfully, the Chinese Students Union came to his aid and he was reinstated, and the school administration eventually apologized for their own ignorance in suspending him. That level of stupidity, especially at a university by supposedly educated people, is insane.
