I'm guessing it's because of how cliché or how generic most of it sounds....? I mean Duncan won with an English song last eurovision despite being from the Netherlands.
@@pottop880 The public is becoming more bored of generic english-language pop & is starting to lean more to culturally-driven and authentic (italy, france and ukraine 2021, netherlands 2019, ect.) entries
I don't think it is about sounding European - both Spanish and British songs were pretty European. But they were goddamn generic. And not getting any fandom in semis (cause they didn't perform there) didn't help at all. At least in Italy and France cases - people talked much more about the MVs.
Calm down! Eurovision is about diversity and about different styles of music and different genres, music is universal. I think there is a place for everybody, let’s be better and not mean about it!
As a Ukrainian, I have to say. I can understand that not everyone likes our song, it's ok. (Personally, I didn't like Malta. For me, it was like "I'm not your toy " 2.0) But the reaction to the televote was offensive to me. Go_A received these points from many people who appreciated their performance. The group has a very strong position on our culture. The song was not written specifically for the contest. It has a very ethnic sound and I am glad that many Slavs from different countries hear and recognize it. I am grateful to everyone for supporting "Shum" and I am very proud of Go_A.
I reckon that some of the best music around at the moment is coming out of Ukraine. Hearing Shum, I thought that it sounded like a cross between Onuka and DakhaBrakha. Then just this last week what have Onuka released but a track with both them and DakhaBrakha! New Onuka album is due out this month as well so that’ll be an excuse for another trip to Kyiv I hope. Oh, and as a Brit, I can say that the UK thoroughly deserved 0 points this year. That “song” was deeply dreadful, poorly performed, badly staged and sung out of tune.
The results were so intense but I loved Italy's reaction to winning and how much some of this year's songs have blown up across the charts in Europe. Personally I have joined half of europe in jumping on the Maneskin train and falling in love with the Italian act. But there were some really fun people this year. It really is interesting how some cultural divides show up in taste in stuff like this.
When Manizha turns around to sing to Russian women behind her with that chorus I get CHILLS Same goes for that part in Loco Loco where they three part harmonize and hit those NOTES
I'm not American and I didn't like Ukraine's song. It was just annoyingly fast and stressfull for me. I totaly get what people like about it but I simply didn't like it at all.

Reactions to 4 0s are not getting old any time soon. I like SUGAR but I agree it didn’t deserve the score it got but the performance is a meme at the moment. Mikes reaction to Portugal reminds me of his reaction to Poland 2016.
Eurovision is just amazing. The weirdest sh*t goes. xD I'm obsessed with Ukraine. I love their song and celebrated their end result. My favorites were Switzerland, Italy and Malta. I'm at a loss what happened with the televotes for Malta. Even though there are more countries voting and therefore more points to grab in the grand finale, Malta actually received more votes in the semi finak. I'm talking 151 points in the semi vs 46 points in the finale. Her starting position was not good, but was that really enough to loose more than 100 points? She was so good. I love that Italy finally won and I can't get enough of Maneskin and zitti e buoni. Such an amazing winner, finally a rock song winning again. It was so darn wholesome when Finland and Italy celebrated Italy's victory together... because rock'n'roll never dies. I'm a little sad, because I think Switzerland and France would've been well deserving winners as well, but only one can win.
It's just that they didn't get enough votes to get points. Only the top 10 acts get points. These songs ended up somewhere in the middle in most countries.
I’ve been waiting to see their reactions! Loved watching this! I agree with Mike about Portugal. It is still a song I listen to a lot, but I’ll admit to being surprised when they made it into the final just because I hadn’t seen or heard many people raving about it like some other songs in that semi-final. I definitely cried during Duncan’s performance of his new song. Not sure of the reason for Lauren, but I had some personal connections to the lyrics and so the lyrics hit really close to home while listening to it. Watching them watch the results definitely reminded me of my reactions during it, especially early on with all the zero points. And I’m definitely like Alex as I’ve rewatched both semi-finals and the finals on the Peacock streaming service here in the US numerous times. Specifically semi-final 1 I’ve watched four times, semi-final 2 thrice, and the final six times. There were just so many great songs and even songs I didn’t initially like a lot, the live performances really brought me to like them so much more (I honestly think the music videos do sometimes effect one’s perception of songs and so I do try to listen to them just audio without any visuals...though the visuals of the staging definitely can effect the listener, too, when done really well). I also like Ukraine’s song and especially love their performance. However, I’ll admit to being an odd American who has enjoyed music from around the world for as long as I can remember. Prior to the internet, family in the military or working in the energy sector would often bring me souvenirs from whenever they lived/worked abroad which sometimes included cassette tapes (later CDs) of music from artists from those nations. They did it because they knew I loved geography and have a fascination with the larger world around me. Thus hearing the song from Ukraine was definitely a treat to my ears and learning what the lyrics were about prior to the shows definitely made me appreciate the performance at the shows. I’m not sure I’d have understood it without that context though. Being from and living in a rural part of the US where agriculture is still a major part of the economy (it’s literally wheat harvest season right now so lots of traffic in my city both of harvest equipment as well as trucks taking the grain to the grain elevators to be loaded onto the trains to be sent off elsewhere in the US) the meaning of the song definitely resonates with me (also having Native American family members and some of their traditions related to the calling forth of spring helps me relate both to the song and reminds me a little of traditions that seem similar to parts of the performance). Glad to finally see their reactions! Thanks for making the video! And here’s hoping even more people subscribe so your reactors move up to better equipment! ;-)
Let’s go for Tablets!! 😂😂 also to answer about Lauren.. the second verse is the one that hit her hard... the same as with me and probably everyone who left home for a better life, but feels guilty about it... I did not know she will react like that.. She never cried to a performance before... but knowing her a bit more personal.. it made sense afterwards!!
Love this, it’s like reliving the contests again, love how Lauren gave Germany 8th, where did that come from, literally gave them more points than Eurovision itself

@@Purpledream. why? I love jeangu, (and his brother), they are amazing… why wouldn’t the song deserve a place in Eurovision? It’s beautiful and has a beautiful message…
The song is top notch, and very much personal for him (a big eurovision thing these days). But I feel like it is a tradition of knocking down the host at this point. They keep getting less than they should. Almost like people forget them. For a host to do well at this point, it would have to be a wooooow moment.
What a year!!! I literally like all of the songs, even the song on my last place makes me get up and dance :) Italy, Switzerland, Belgium and Ukraine stole my heart though.
Went though the usual Eurovision withdrawal, so missed this. Just caught up and ready for '22 season. Congrats with the pregnancy and hope yous are both back with Alex next year. These videos really add to my eurovison experience:D
The year was pretty good, but there seemed to be a lot of "bootleg/cheap" rehashes of older songs - Cyprus sending basically the same song for third year in a row, Sweden channeling its past, but failing(Heroes vibe), Malta being really boring version of Netta.
We need to grow some balls in Cyprus and just come out with the most Cypriot thing we can and people will love it. I don’t feel that these artists we are sending represent us.
There's a lot of Americans reacting to the Ukraine - I haven't watched a lot of them though. It's been lovely to see unsuspecting metalheads react to Maneskin and go 'this slaps'.
Probably a fun comment for a Eurovision geeks: Lithuania had a *VERY* strong support compaign this year - Yellow wave/fever with slogan #LithuaniaGoesYellow. It was all over social media - it was cool to support them publically which never happened before. Even companies had their ads on with having flash mobs with dancing (that did not lead to support financially LOL). Buildings were lit in yellow, statues decorated with 'yellow' clothes, every tiny corner playing the song, even fountains 'danced' to a song. That month was spectacular and joyful 💛💛💛🖖 Ner fact #2: apparently Germany's stage show was done by lithuanians and and i heard in one of interviews that choreography by same artist that was a backup dancer to the Roop, Marijanas
I definitely agree with Mike, though, that this was possibly the strongest Eurovision ever. Like, all the songs were good, with many potential winners there. It was a hard decision to decide what your favourite would be. Which is unusual, because there's usually at least a light sprinkling of weird / crap entries in there somewhere (which you can appreciate on a "so bad it's good" humorous level). But, nope, everyone was going for gold this year.

The American sounding ones did badly because yes, its the european song contest, they need to sound european lol
I'm Italian. The Go_A song was beautiful!!!
@@lauradellanoce same here; I'm from Italy too
@@lauradellanoce 💋 from Ukraine! I voted for Italy 3 times. A new Maneskin fan here.🤣 I hope to visit Italy next year.

I love how Lauren and Mike take it seriously, remember older contestants, remember when someone had the same artist last year and so on
Mike: "That was awesome! I'm happy with the results this year more or less"
Also Mike: "that's horseshit" every 5 minutes
When you're singing a song in the shower, and your partner hears you in the next room and starts singing with you.
That's love right there.
"Don't hate us, we like what we like." - European public votes different from them. "Bullshit, get fucked!" I laughed^^
When Manizha turns around to sing to Russian women behind her with that chorus I get CHILLS
Same goes for that part in Loco Loco where they three part harmonize and hit those NOTES
I don't understand how these Americans can not like Ukrainian song, it was totally mesmerizing.
I'm not American and I didn't like Ukraine's song. It was just annoyingly fast and stressfull for me. I totaly get what people like about it but I simply didn't like it at all.
As an American (living in Europe) who is totally obsessed with Eurovision, I totally appreciate this video! Thanks for sharing!!!
lolol what are you doing in Europe
Eurovision rappresents our diversity and our countries culture, I totally love it, it’s feels like a big family reunion where we all vibe and make fun of other and listen to good music 😀
Btw I'm so happy Portugal is in Mike's top 2. He knows good music! What a taste!!! 🇵🇹❤️🇵🇹❤️🇵🇹❤️🇵🇹
Portugal was amazing this year and Belgium as well. Two masterpieces. I love also Italy and Switzerland.
Ukraine is one of my top 5 in Eurovision history! (From the uk)
Seeing Serbia sing flawlessly and move all around and then straight afterwards UK stand there and be breathless...yeah.
The hardly moved while singing until the end and had a heavy backing track
The Serbian live on tape had a way better vocal.
To think the BBC had to be convinced to even include the pyro on the stage for the UK song. Lifeless.
@@ReallyBritishOne money money money
@@starrynight1657 hilarious really, because the UK stage setup was the most expensive of any country - those trumpets must have cost a fortune. Honestly, the UK just doesn't have a clue what it's doing 😂
I also think this year was one of the best, such a good variety. So sad that Portugal and the Netherlands didn't do well, also Malta was gorgeous 😍. Thank you guys for the reactions, it was great relieving it again with you. Lots of love and hugs, and congratulations on the baby!!!🤗💖 stay healthy and safe🥰🥰
First: Congrats on the pregnancy! Second: I cracked up like unreasonably hard at Mike's reaction to Portugal. Third: I will love these two precious Americans enough for everyone to forget the haters.

As soon as Lauren started crying after she said she can't actually watch the performance of Duncan I started crying along... it felt so sincere from her that got me too... you three are awesome
This video was so much fun to watch! I definitely want them to react to 2019, 18 and 17 too! :) Thanks for all the amazing eurovision content!
Lauren and Mike are my favourite reactors I love how they actually take it seriously and get into it 🙌 also Lauren’s reaction to Duncan’s new song was so cute kinda made me wanna cry too haha
My top 5 : 1.Italy. 2.Ukraine. 3.France 4.Switzerland 5.Portugal.
This was so much fun!! Thank you for reacting and being such great sports about all the negative comments. Please know the majority of us love seeing people discover Eurovision, and you all are a delight to watch! 🤗♥️
I'm so happy they appreciated The Netherlands's entry and that I finally found someone who also loves Portugal's song! Great reactions from them as always!
Portugal was so good its a shame it didnt end any higher than it did
I adored The Netherlands! When I showed my mom the songs before the contest, that one was her clear favorite. No contest.
Actually "the birth of a new age" really grew on my as I continued listening and now it's one of my highs! I think the song was a grower though and it was bad that they contined directly to the final and the song didn't get as much exposure as the others. They could have been higher maybe
Just want to say props for doing a proper react! I'm so sick of people reacting to 10s clips. The fact you are even doing the whole show makes it even better! Great job! I'll watch all of it!
You guys are fantastic! It's like looking at ourself during the broadcast and the voting. Wishing Lauren a save and good pregnancy and delivery.
I live ln Austria- and Italy are our neighbours. If you wanna go to Eurovision next year be my guests and lets go to Italy 😁
And btw. I like Ukraine too 😁
Lovely to see that you liked Portugal!!! It's such a great song
Cheers from Portugal!
Aww, the baby is so lucky! Well, I think I'm too, because I was born the night after Eurovision ended.
Love watching Mike and Lauren (and you, Alex ;)) react and I am happy they liked this year!! Great fun!!

I'm Ukrainian, living in Canada) I do appreciate Go_A, they are really talented and have unique sounding, but this year I just felt in love with Blind Channel (Finland).. so happy I discovered them. Even though now I mostly listen to a much heavier stuff, but boys from Blind Channel just got me. Can't stop listening to all of their albums. I don't know why, but since early 2000s I've been a big fan of so many Finnish bands.. Finns, you are incredible.. Nightwish, Wintersun, Children of Bodom, HIM, Apocalyptica, Rasmus, Sonata Arctica, Poets of the Fall... and so many more.. I can go on and go on.. sometimes it seems like a good idea for me just to move to Finland))
"why do I know it then?" because it sounds like every other generic pop song😂
To Mike & Lauren: congrats on the babynews. Hope you have an easy pregnancy.

My top 3 were Switzerland, Iceland and Portugal, so I was gutted that Portugal didn't get more from the public too, it was so good! I'm glad the other two placed so high though!
They're very entertaining to watch because they're honest. People are unfairly prejudiced against Americans. 🇺🇲
of all the "americans reacting to eurovision" videos i've watched you guys have been the most educated and respectful, so props for that!
I think that part in Albania's song sounds a lot like Greece's Supergirl from last year - that might be what they heard?
I can imagine that...
Yeah, Kontopoulous copying himself when he did the Albanian revamp
@@andcar2544 true!
Yeah the instrumental at the start sounds kinda similar to supergirl chorus instrumental
Omg I finally realized who the girl that sings The wrong place reminds me of. It's Cate Blanchett, and especially her look in Ocean's 8
Reactions to 4 0s are not getting old any time soon. I like SUGAR but I agree it didn’t deserve the score it got but the performance is a meme at the moment. Mikes reaction to Portugal reminds me of his reaction to Poland 2016.
The song itself is ok but the performance was quite underwhelming,.compared to other performances...
I like how polite you are when you say “underwhelming “ 😃😂
@@samstarba4569 which song are you talking about
@@crazywalker484 Oh, right. About Sugar.
Eurovision is just amazing. The weirdest sh*t goes. xD
I'm obsessed with Ukraine.
I still cant get over the fact 4 countries had 0 points. Nobody derserved 0 points from the public vote 😟
It's just that they didn't get enough votes to get points. Only the top 10 acts get points. These songs ended up somewhere in the middle in most countries.
@@cityonfoot6023 I know that but still....

That song has no place in Eurovision!!!

Ok I LOVE these two. So funny and cute. Thankyou for finding them and exposing them to ESC dude! Xxx
Mike's reaction to Portugal was the funniest thing ever
Probably a fun comment for a Eurovision geeks:
Lithuania had a *VERY* strong support compaign this year - Yellow wave/fever with slogan #LithuaniaGoesYellow. That month was spectacular and joyful 💛💛💛🖖
Ner fact #2: apparently Germany's stage show was done by lithuanians and and i heard in one of interviews that choreography by same artist that was a backup dancer to the Roop, Marijanas
ahhh I've been waiting for that video!
Ps. Mike and Lauren congrats! Lauren you are glowing!
Yes, do all the shows from 2017-2019 :D
I definitely agree with Mike, though, that this was possibly the strongest Eurovision ever.
Like, all the songs were good, with many potential winners there. It was a hard decision to decide what your favourite would be.
Which is unusual, because there's usually at least a light sprinkling of weird / crap entries in there somewhere (which you can appreciate on a "so bad it's good" humorous level). But, nope, everyone was going for gold this year.
Last night I rewatched the voting part of Mike and Lauren's 2016 reaction and was wondering how long it would take for their 2021 full reaction, yay!
I watched the 2016 reaction about an hour before this one was posted
I love how deadly serious, distant and concentrated everyone's faces went when France was performing.
