Henry IV is dead and Hal is King. With England in a state of unrest, he must leave his rebellious youth behind, striving to gain the respect of his nobility and people.
Laying claim to parts of France and following an insult from the French Dauphin, Henry gathers his troops and prepares for a war that he hopes will unite his country.
Gregory Doran continues his exploration of Shakespeare's History Plays with Henry V performed in the 600th anniversary year of the Battle of Agincourt. Following his performance as Hal in Henry IV Parts I & II Alex Hassell returns as Henry V.

My first Shakespeare theatre experience was Rupert Goold's production of Romeo & Juliet. I watched it with my dad, and around a decade later I remember it so vividly. The entire experience was riveting. The impact of live theatre is like no other.
I'm currently rereading the Henriad plays and watching the RSC recorded productions alongside. Alex Hassell is excellent.
Saw them do Part I and have never forgotten it. I get all weepy just watching this trailer!
To me it is a war story and love story. Above and beyond that, it is a coming of age story. One day you are in the Navy and the next day you are summoned home to run your grandfather's company-the Ford Motor Company. One day you are at Rice University and the next day you own your father's Corporation-the Hughes Corporation. It is timeless.
I had the great pleasure of seeing Kenneth Branagh do it at the Barbican in the 80s, my first & so far only experience of seeing the RSC - absolutely wonderful! When he did "Cry God For Harry...." it was spine-tingling!! :) Would be an interesting comparison all these years later to see another take on it. Btw ...can anyone tell me what that gorgeous music was that was playing in the background of the trailer?
"Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more!"
I cannot wait to own this play on Bluray! I proudly own your Henry IV Parts I & II production on Bluray. :)
P.S. I'm writing this all the way from sunny, thirsty California
Wonderful! I was there in spirit.
