David, one owner told me years ago, he had such a busy life at work he just wanted a simple life on the boat. Not being challenged by aggressive art or design, just nice and simple. We even found him the most simple TV control (hard to find) so he couldn't screw-up.

Haha! Yes...as you know, turning a TV on on a yacht is not always an easy task..far too complicated! I know many yacht owners who get frustrated by that!

Although I did understand your comparisons with this yacht against Italian yachts. I think it’s beautiful, it’s got a lovely nautical feel to it, it’s beautifully finished and looks extremely comfortable. So I didn’t quite understand why you were down selling it. I’d buy it 😅

I do really love the homey feeling many American-built yachts have. It always feels to me that those designs are more "real" while many other designs are mostly "for show". There is a German proverb for that which roughly translates to "It's more appearance than substance." But as you said, the boats outside the US are really well-built as well.
The funny thing is when it comes to private houses I often think it is just the other way around and US houses are the "shiny" ones compared to the "real" houses built in the old world.

David enjoyed the tour. Style vs Practicality. Well if you never leave port then style maybe important, however if you love the high seas then simplicity, and practicality will serve you better.

I am all about. being practical. The jacuzzi up front to me is idea. It reminds me of one Super Bowl I spent the day at a friend house. We put the barbecue next to the Jacuzzi watching the game and cooking without having to get out of the Jacuzzi. Watching the ocean or the view while relaxing would be incredible from the bow!

It might be my American-ness, but I love Westports. They look, to me, “yachty”, whereas many of the newer European seem too IKEA-esque. Can’t wait for a tour of the new Westport 172 once built. Love the content. Keep it up, David, Slava and team! 👍

Until the design is fixed I doubt they will find a buyer for hull #1 .... everyone who has seriously considered it has baulked at the two tier aft deck.... it's an abomination. Meanwhile they had had several people wanting 164's .... big own goal by Westport here

Very appealing yacht, the mahogany makes the interior seem a little dark but as you say it is sumptuous. You might have mentioned that the Westport 130 is also a high performance yacht -- I think it can cruise around 19 or 20 knots. Designed by a brilliant naval architect William Garden.

Another gorgeous yacht! This is definitely a warm hug type of yacht and seen similar yachts before. It is interesting that Italian yacht builders tuned in and gave some leeway to the American market, I know their pride in yachts and the foundation. Benetti being one of my favorite builders. But as a side the hiding of accutrements (toys) I do believe one of two things, hidden: Guest is suprised the yacht has it. On Deck: We know the fun we are having! I love both concepts. Thank you again for a great tour!

I must be honest and confess I've never been on one or seen one until now. All yachts have their own beauty and preferences. I imagine if you are living in America you buy what your country produces! However being in the UK we still have a choice of some of the best of British design and build quality boat's to choose from. It's seems to me a typical plain yacht I would not take to the Carribbean or the Mediterranean. Probably suitable for the older ones who are not fussed on design or posing in Monaco. 🎉❤

As an American, I can see why American yachts are -better- preferred by Americans. 😉 As a non-stylish person who needs to look at mannequins to figure out what clothes go well with others, I haven't really liked the Italians designs. "If I were a rich man" I'd have very few modifications to make this one ideal for me. Thank you for the video! 👍

I do like this, I love that there is a place for 2 jetskis and a tender outside (you made a good point about taking up interior real estate). I love the dark wood, did like gloss but that would send me nuts with the fingerprints everywhere so this looked perfect. also loved the Galley, I also think this is one of the most important parts of the boat, space, space and more space, thats what I like. If it doesnt need lots of work and I had 20+M spare, I'd have it as long as I liked the front (i don't like flat fronts) probably not worded that properly.

Thank you David. A very refreshing tour of a company I haven’t spent much time investigating. For my sake, I believe the Italians have the competitive edge. It’s something you find everywhere. Yes at times looks win over but in the end, it’s my money & with the use of clever incentives you can have a win-win with the Italians. I spoke to Azimut at one stage about the impracticality of the upper dining room on the Tri-deck & they agreed to remodel it, along with the impractical main salon rambling useless furniture. It’s in the art of negotiation. 🙏

Comfortable elegance is a good way of saying what the yacht is. Coco said it best I think. If it's not Comfortable it's not a luxury. West Port makes a yacht I would like to own. I wish you would do the crew areas. One thing I like about aquaholic nick he gets into those areas even when they are full of other people. There have only been a very few yachts that nick stated he was told not to go into this or that place.

Two ovens in the galley are a superb choice. Perhaps the next time, should time allow, views of the pantry and wine storage spaces. Most install a useless 30 bottle front vent unit. A proper vessel needs proper wine storage. Reds and whites cannot be successfully stored in one unit because the temperatures cannot reasonably preserve each type. Dedicated units resolves that point. That said, whew, stunning vessel. I'm sorry to have missed a viewing. Please bring more of these to be viewed.

I think this boils down to an argument of practicality over aesthetic‘s. A Ferrari is beautiful to look at. Beautiful to drive, but immensely impractical. A four-door saloon can be good looking, but is much more versatile. Which is why there are more four-door saloons on the road, than two door sports cars. Do you get to look at the boat or do you want to enjoy it. it’s possible to do both but I know I would prefer the latter.

I'm not a yacht owner, I don't even know how to sail. But as an american looking at youtube videos for 3 weeks, This is the first yacht where I've looked at it and thought to myself. Finally a ship that is a house , a home. Not trying to be a lamborghini Or a ferrari. Just a simple house on the ocean. I've never even heard of this company. There are a lot of content creators out there showing off yachts, And yes they're beautiful and yes they're stylish but they are definitely not elegant. Growing up in San Francisco.I've seen a lot of beautiful handmade boats with beautiful mahogany and in lay. There's nothing else in the world like it. But nowadays everyone's into carbon fiber and plastic. Everyone wants their ship to look like a sports car, But I would assume if I'm crossing the Atlantic for a month.I'd want to take a piece of home with me. And this yacht is definitely doing that. 1 of those cabinets in the bedroom, would cost 20,000 u.s., and about a 6 month build time. Just saying.

Thank you for a a nice tour 😊 I totally agree with the comparison "Westport vs Italian yachts" LOL Personally I love the Westports I've seen that have a 'country kitchen', providing really good crew space. I also much prefer practicality over bling! Speaking of practical: A smaller upper lounge in favor of a proper captain's cabin behind the bridge would have been in order.
Though: "As an owner would see it"? Well, if an owner would only be interested in the 'guest areas', then all I can say is: shame on him/her! And I have to say that yes, the crew work hard, and they should have some privacy (a lot more actually), but a boat is on a show to be showed to potential customers, and I for one would absolutely want to see ALL of it! No reason all areas can't be filmed one at a time when crew isn't in there. If nothing else, then film those areas when not in use, and offer those clips to be used in videos such as this.

  • @seantwomey396

You are right that American and European priorities differ. I prefer satisfying the client rather than bowing to the style Gods. Also, American owners typically take a less formal approach to crew interaction than do Europeans. I like the sky lounge on the Westport. Both European and American supermodels would look equally stunning around the hot tub.

    • @marcelwin6941
      @marcelwin6941 6 місяців тому

Please do not overgeneralize "European". David was quite correct talking about Italian styling. British, Dutch, German and not to forget Polish yacht builders also very much emphasize "form follows function" (practicality and comfort) instead of "form over function" (styling first). That does (definitely) not mean that they (or Westport) build ugly yachts. It's a bit like with Italian sports cars. Nice to look at, interesting "rich guy" toys if you are into those, but hardly any owner would claim that those are suitable for much more than one or the other fun ride or to show off, but hardly a comfortable and useful form of transportation (and yes, in this regard Italian yachts are not as "bad" as Ferraris, Bugattis or Lamborghinis).
This said, I agree with some other commentators that David may have mentioned "Westport vs. italian" one too many times, so it sounded a bit like he was defending something that needed no defense (because let's face it, that Weatport yacht is still a very beautyful boat).

Yes, a bit too much Mahogany for me, too. But that was likely the choice of the original owner. My preference would also be lighter colours (white / cream), where a dark wood like Walnut or Hazelnut would be used as accents for some surfaces (Mahogany would also be a bit too reddish for my taste).

I think the design needs a update now .... full beam master and sky lounge add 8' for a Beach club and Captain cabin on the bridge deck and presto ...it's almost perfect. And until you have owned and run an Italian yacht you don't understand the true benefit of a Westport or Northern European boat (or a OA or Horizon frankly)... Italian boats are very poor in comparison for quality of engineering and build .... everything breaks all the time and everything is difficult to access and fix. They also have designs and interiors that go out of date and really can't be fixed. Want to buy a 1992 92 Versilcraft? ...you can't give one away ...whereas a 1992 Hatteras 92 or Burger or anything really will sell easily if maintained. Frankly Italian boats are style over substance and that goes right up to 350'+ Benetti's.... the construction and post delivery issues with IJE were legendary leading to it being sold after only a short time as the owner was dismayed.

If I were the owner of this yacht, I think I might look for another broker and ask you to take down this video. You seemed embarrassed to be selling this yacht. The whole theme seems to be "Well the Italians make beautiful yachts but this one is good enough and it's practical." The interior is quite nice in my opinion. The cabins seem to be comfortable, roomy, well designed and tastefully decorated. You described them as not having a "wow factor". There were lots of positives but you couldn't seem to find many. I've never really found Westports to be beautiful but I think if I were trying to sell one I would point out the positives. There are lots and lots of them. Very weird that you are absolutely pedantic about every other yacht you sell and then crapped all over this one.

I did not like this yacht. Just banging a load of mahogany in does not make it appealling. I think many other yachts have far better decor. It just looked very cold and there was not enough cohesion between the space, the finish and the furniture for my liking. Each to our own though!

Ugh, crew and engines are extremely important. You keep apologizing for an American yacht. Americans prefer American craftsmanship.
