    Can't wait to see Japan's new 5th/6th gen fighter. I hope I got my gens right there. Those old Phantoms (or equivalent) still look amazing too.

    • @rajoferrer6148
      @rajoferrer6148 2 роки тому

      In my opinion 5th gen is more believable. 6th gen, not so much. Military contractors like to use the generation terminology for marketing purposes and there is not much to show that there is a significant step between the 5th and 6th generation (at least from what we have seen so far from all the programs). Just have to wait and see what becomes of Tempest since the Japanese are probrally going to part take in that.

    • @RGNSS-hn8ew
      @RGNSS-hn8ew 2 роки тому +2

      @@rajoferrer6148 Yeah, that was my understanding aswell to a large degree. Either way, whether a new sixth gen actually has greatly improved stealth, range, payload, avionics, cost, interoperability or even autonomy, if it's improved in any way over fifth gen in a theoretical fight against a belligerent Russia and China - I'll take it!

    Beautiful footage! When I was 4-5 years old (52 years ago!), my father was in the USAF and stationed at MacDill AFB in Tampa, FL. We had a house off-base that was in a development pretty much off the end of one of the runways. So I always got to see and hear all manner of aircraft coming and going. But my all-time favorite was, and still is, the F-4 Phantom. To me they are the best of the best. Ever.

    I was based at raf upper heyford near Oxford England 75-77 and from my viewpoint in the tower from the catwalk (weather obs) I watched a workman in civilian clothes walking the flight line coming to the tower area. He seemed to get curious about the f4's parked nearby and decided to walk over to one and put his hand on it. About that time several sp's arrived with guns out. I think he was just curious but no one was amused. Except for maybe my very young self.

    F-4's look bad -ass even today. USAF model F-4's smoked so bad.. you could see them coming, long before even hearing them. 2 F-4's incoming, looked like a forest fire on the horizon, The weather at Ramstein AB was shitty enough, launch 2 or more F-4's and the day was pretty much shot.

  • @MHG1023

    Seems those F-4 engines must have gotten quite some improvements/upgrades considering the significantly reduced smoke trail compared to the late German Air Force F-4´s (withdrawn from service in 2013) ...
    Interesting to see another difference: The gear retraction sequence. Seems much faster compared to same aircraft types in other forces and - at least as shown in this video - the "gear up" upon take off is literally just immediately after lift off (maybe a JASDF specialty)

    not much flair went those f 4s land. no bounce, but looks hard on the air frame. since those frame are decades old, one would expect that the pilots would be more gentle on those landings.

    • @Tigershark_3082
      @Tigershark_3082 2 роки тому +1

      That's... that's not how stealth works...
      Speed isn't the end-all be-all of aircraft anymore. That time has passed. What matters now is a plane being stealthy enough to hit the enemy without the enemy even seeing them, whick both the F-22 and F-35 do effectively.

      These are heavily modernized phantoms used only for reconnaissance. They fly the f-2 (modified f-16) and f-35 as fighters. Japan also can’t technically have an Air Force because of their constitution, so it’s a “self defence force”

    • @christianjunhoffman9142

    • @KittenBowl1
      @KittenBowl1 2 роки тому

      @@christianjunhoffman9142 this isn’t the main air-force base. If you want to look at fighter jets in Japan there’re plenty of videos out there here on YT. Recent one I watched was the Americans and the Japanese flying alongside to send message to Russia and China after Biden left Japan (as they harassed us during the QUAD, China is childish really..). It was F15-s if I recall correctly. Besides, the Japanese pay for American servicemen to be stationed in Japan (we share the cost) on top of these self-defense forces. There’re like 25 US bases in Japan, and 100s of thousands of US servicemen in Japan. Meaningless to have exact same functions. And the Japanese and American government sit down annually to go over what budget to allocate for what services etc. Supposed to work in synergy, not really neglected.
