I stumbled across this video when I was looking for Kampfer inspiration. This is the first time I saw how great the paintjob can be when candy gloss is really well done. I can even imagine this being part of a diorama! Excellent work Sir!
Gunpla painters are on a completely level than what I do. I paint Warhammer 40k, I'm pretty good, won't win awards. But even the award winning painters won't do stuff like this. I'd love to see such a talented gunpla painter paint a gunpla the way a Warhammer 40k painter paints.
It's just a chrome paint over sprayed with colored clear urethane, you can use Alclad laquers for this same effect as well. Takes a bit of time but with a decent quality airbrush you can pull this off. Practice of plastic spoons then move up to the model ;)
Another absolutely insanely great build! Amazing. Your work inspired me to look into getting an airbrush setup. It is still a little too scary. But, man, this makes me want to give it a try anyway.

It looks like the key for a good glossy metal looking paint job isn't run of the mill metallic paint, but colored clear urethane paint non of the flake infused paint either if you want the plastic to look like actual professionally painted metal.
Beautiful! Of course, If the Zeons had painted a mobile suit for me to such an extent, I wouldn't use it for battle. I would keep it behind glass and indoors at an automobile lot. ;p

Very well done, I wondered why you didn't use a microfiber cloth to polish the chrome paint after applying to get a mirror chrome, unless you were going for a dulled chrome look, which can look good when done well like this. Looking forward to seeing more.
It differs slightly depending on the type of chrome paint. When you paint, there are some fine powders In that case, you need to wipe it with a microfiber cloth. This product is rarely such a phenomenon and does not need to be cleaned.
@@Jenic77 Good to know. I have used Alclad II chrome lacquer paint, and I'm able to really polish that to a near perfect mirror chrome with a microfiber cloth, buffing it with the cloth after it dries. When it is left unpolished and just sprayed on, it looks similar to the chrome effect you achieved.

I love this, its like seeing a gundam fresh off the assembly line and ready for the show room.
Even with just the base coat it looks a million times better than any gunpla I assembled as a kid.
