Here's what I did with my TRX-4 Sport Bowhouse skid Traxxas wheelbase stretch rear links SSD outer portal covers Moved rear shocks forward and mounted them to the frame 12 tooth pinion 45 tooth spur Overdrive front gears Underdrive rear gears Flipped bumper mounts and ditched the bumpers Ditched the rock sliders Method beadlocks in 2.2" (don't remember the brand) Rc4wd Interco Iroks in the soft sticky compound at 5.75" tall A ton of trimming to clear everything. Set the preload all the way down in the rear, and just high enough in the front to keep it level and allow full travel. Lots more coming too, need to do some electronics and who knows what else lol Now off to watch the rest of the videos on your build. Love the format of your videos, keep up the good work.
They're a decent truck, I bought the sport kit version and added the following: 45t 540 brushed motor (using stock pinion), 60amp esc, 16kg servo, and run it on 2S. It also has some steel white weller split rim wheels (which I've weighted). Also succumbed to adding some brass to the inner sides of the front hubs, and I went with using the stock setup / oil for the shocks. It climbs really well, very smooth too. Was a pleasure to build!
Thats how i built my sport. The only brass i have are wheel hexes. Bowhouse lcg skid and lcg battery tray are great. The stock shocks are great for the mini T spring mod for more droop. If you want to keep the stock bumpers swapping the rear and front mounts and flipping them gives better clearance. Its a great free mod.
TRX4 is awesome. I never bought the sport because locking and unlocking differentials and two-speed transmission lights my fire. I bought the bronco first then the Blazer, then the K10. I mostly trail my trucks and have yet to change anything on them because of breaking. I've added lights and decals only and love the way these rigs perform. Enjoy the ride.
Once the tires break in they are really good for an rtr tire. I put my scx10-II jeep Cherokee bumper on the front of my wife's TRX-4 sport to gain a little approach. The bow house RC low cg battery tray is a big help as well
I got a trx4 based v3 and am buying 2 more builders kits .....one for the negative g chassis and one to run with stock chassi........great investment and so so so many options!
Solid truck. One of my favorite all arounders. My mods include bowhouse lowered battery tray, HW fusion for that sweet FOC, futaba 4pv and receiver, 35kg "Amazon special" servo, Jay Concepts Landmines on injora bead locks, front and rear bumper mods (UA-cam it), put spacers under the Rock rails to make them flat with the belly, increased forward weight bias. Might be forgetting a thing here or there. Looking forward to your TRX sport journey.
The best free mod's for the TRX-4 Sport are to raise the sliders and trim the body down accordingly. I raised mine 10mm. Also do the bumper mount flip on both bumpers and trim the wheel arches.
nice video bud. my trx4 sport is still my favorite after 2 years of owning it. i bought the 2 speed kit for like 80 bucks and ran a hobby wing 1080 and a dewalt motor i pulled out of my own 12volt impact gun. it was tough as nails, but recently i dropped 200 bucks on a hobbywing axe with 2100kv and i'll never go back. over the years ive removed the sliders all together and put a smaller battery box in and i float it between in the front or just over top of the transmission and ive never competed but it will go just about anywhere and ive never broken anything except for multiple bodies and 3 sets of tires.i dont do any brass at all because i like it on the light side. but the secret for me is the ever dependable 2 speed so i can bash a little too.good luck with whatever you decide to do but ive got the element the gen8 v2 a couple budget rbc crawlers so im not a fanboy but hands down just for everyday beating on it bouncing it off ledges and jumps the trx4 platform is the best ive seen or had. of course you need new electronics but thats every rtr rig.a good steering servo and decent electronics and itll last for years.im even running 7.4 volts to the same little shift servo that came with the shift kit for almost 2 years and its still hanging in there like a hair in a biscuit. but its just my opinion and no i dont compete but i use my rc's everyday. thanks for sharing brother. i look forward to seeing where you go with it
I’m glad you went with the idea of the TRX4. I bought one for my 12 yo son and it is still bone stock. He has asked for a stronger steering servo and it will be the first mod. I’ve been impressed by the stock performance like you are. I’ll be watching your series on this closely for ideas for my son’s truck. Thanks for the great vids.
Literally just bought the same color rig about an hour ago at my lhs. I bought it for the same reason... It's straight forward without the bells and whistles and tough as nails. I have a defender and a scx6 if I want to be fancy. Lol Plus the trx4 sport is backpackable. 😉
Sweet!!! You picked the best color brother!!! I love all my Trx4's, my sport is set up for pure rock crawling. I am with you, I have added minimal brass and have concentrated on others up grades.🤘🤘🤘
Never driven a TRX4, wow. Bought the TRX4 sport kit. It has a Hobbywing Fusion, Reefs 555, put small 2000 3s battery in the tray on the nose of the chassis, brass winch mount, angled steel front bumper, brass hubs and wheel covers in the front only, stock tires, dual stage foam, removed all but the mount for the rear bumper, Radiolink RC6GS radio and R7FG receiver.
I've had mine for almost a year. Only ran during the summer, though. But I ran it hard, and other than rust on the links where I got some rock rash, and some rust on the screw heads, I'm very happy with it. Mine is bone stock, and I plan on keeping it that way. Very capable for what it is. And most importantly, very fun. I run 3s batteries in mine, but would probably go with 2s if I had to buy batteries again. Can't wait for summer when I can get back out on the trails! Edit: I did buy the traxxas winch to mount on it. Just haven't had a chance to do so yet. That is the only upgrade I plan on doing to it.
I just put together a Trx4,bought it used as a roller from Facebook market. The only brass its got are portal covers also running proline swapers in the predator compound with proline dual stage foams, soft. I put a crawlmaster sport 550 13t motor with the hobbywing 1080 brushed crawler esc and man this thing is very impressive. Today was it real first outing and like I said very impressive truck.
i have had mine now going on 4 years and it been a great trx 4 been threw 2 moters , same bearings in it from the day i bought it , and light bar on front now and tail lights and bead lock tires , and its still ruuning good after having a vxl system in it a few times , to bash around .
@@westdesertwheeler yup and when next year gets here im going to be doing a little upgrading it with new bearings a new brushless sensord moter and a few more things , but the 1 speed tranmissin stays in it
@@westdesertwheeler I seen a roller version on Amazon with a clear body. and the back tail setup too that i will be getting and making that one the crawler. and taking the old one and making it like a rock bouncer truck or basher.
I love the TRX4. LCG battery tray, 1080 esc, Gmade steel wheels with Proline super swampers. We also made some custom high clearance bumpers for it. They are bombproof trucks. Can’t wait to see what you do and how it performs.
Hey Man! love your channel! Keep up the great work. I recently started my own RC Channel. Just picked up a Traxxas Hoss and a Traxxas TRX-4 to add to the collection! Happy Bashing!
Metal servo horn, heavy metal beadlocks, Canyon Trail knob cutting mod, pen shock mod, narrower bumpers, shortening the bed by cutting it, 3D printed horizontal servo mount, lcg battery tray (diy?) and of course brass knuckle weights 😁 Many of these mods are free or very cheap.
I don’t know what happened to my first comment. Here you go, all upgrades I did, and very happy with…Reefs Raw 500 servo, Injora 1.9” beadlocks, crawler innovations dual stage foams (lil nova’s , comp cut inner, soft outer in the front, medium in the rear) Pitbull Rockbeast XOR. Hobbywing 1800kv 2 n1 fusion motor/esc. “Benedict harry” outer brass portal covers f/r. Injora brass inner covers front(steering knuckles), Injora brass c-hubs. Remove the front and rear bumpers. Also favorite tires with crawler innovation lil nova foams….jconcepts land mines, ruptures
I still haven’t gotten the overdrive gears for my Trx4’s but it would probably be one of the best upgrades. I upgraded the esc to have a lot better modulation and drag brake to a HW 1080 and love it with the stock motor. Other than that servo I upgraded the servo because it definitely needed more torque, it worked wonderfully. And last the bumpers needed more clearance so I flipped the mounts as a free mod.
The overdrive gears are pretty decent. I just installed them this past weekend. The front tires will want to grip more and basically drag the rear wheels up before the rears grip and want to flip it backwards. And descending since the rear wheels don't turn as fast it almost acts as another drag brake. Well worth the investment.
Raise the sliders and back bumper. You might need to cut the body to make it fit. Use front battery tray and remove heavy plastics old tray. 8mm Hex nuts. 35kg servo. Brass only on front axle if you need. HobbyWing Fusion as its much lighter and makes a world in difference in control. Overdrive. Either use pen spring mod or rubber bands around your shocks. Do the common tire mod by removing these small center lugs. And finally if you are really crazy get a LCG chassis like SCATTERGUN V2 or Negative G...but i haven't tried out these myself.
ScaleFab sells a front rear bumper to help with approach angle. Raise the sliders. Free mod is to cut the tires and they become super aggressive and bite on anything. YT has more than a few videos on it.
I want to get a crawler and I think a TRX-4 Sport is what I’ll get. I can think of several areas near where I live where a crawler would be fun to play with (although there isn’t any terrain like in the video unfortunately). This videos shows that the truck will be more than capable for what I want to use it for
Get some small rubber bands and put em on the shocks, makes ride height better an less tipping backwards when the front is high.and of course flipping the bumper mounts,I took the bumpers off and trimmed the body to fit the bumper bracket ,both ends
For shure get a link riser for the rear axle get rid of the plastic that u dont need make my setup is hh revolver snubnose micro x hh shv500 hyrax and using stock shocks with losi mini t spring mod and homemade rear shock tower ierc makes sum
the lockable diffs isn't necessary but the 2spd transmission has gotten me out of a lot of difficult situations, the extra wheel speed comes in handy quite a lot...plus come on you want to hit a jump every once in awhile
Logan I always like your vids. I learn much. My next build is a TRX Sport Kit, I'm just finishing an SXC10 ii Raw Builder's Kit. My upgrades will be: - CrawlMaster Sport 540/550, HW 1080 quic-run, free bumper mount flip/rotate, free shock mod shown by RcCrawler Vlogs, and the cheaper mods that you come up with in this series. Looking forward to your information.
The best free mods: 1)Bumper mount swap, winch and bull bar delete, trim body, drill new holes and move front bumper into body as far as possible. Do the same with rear body and bumper. Delete hitch. 2)Rock sliders, trim body, add washers and longer screws to get sliders higher. 3) Remove tires and notch foam. 4) Use a smaller battery and relocate over front wheels. 5) Trim tread on tires for more grip. The best money I spent was hobbywing esc, new remote, and overdrive/underdrive
I love your videos, so I'm excited to see how this unfolds. For the 3 that I have, the Hobbywing 1080 was the best upgrade. My only request: I'd like to see you keep a full fender body on it.
Great video love the channel. I have overdriven my front axle and have underdriven the rear axle with great results. Definitely need some brass in the back truck is to light in the rear and also put a good tire on it and a heavy set of wheels.
@@westdesertwheeler Looks awesome out there....much "looser" terrain in the Black Hills, SD. Love your vids....I own a gatekeeper which started me on this channel, now I have another reason with the introduction of your TRX4
GOOD MORNING LOGON FROM ENGLAND SIR. IM REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING THIS SERIES ON THE TRX4. AS I'VE JUST PURCHASED ONE MYSELF. KEEP THR RUBBER SIDE DOWN🇬🇧🇺🇸👍✌️
Hey there I got to meet Joe ropes that you crawled with before proline by the fire. Hope I get the chance to crawl with you sometime. Love the vids! Keep it up!
ok after watching some more of your videos my earlier comment looks a bit silly. I mean you're organizing crawler competitions, setting the courses and all. I came here looking for a TRX4 review and mistook you for some average joe :)
Wow...at last you bought trx4. It's good truck. I have trx sport and defender. It is fun truck. I'm not competition guy, so i'm just change the wheels those trucks 😜
It will be interesting seeing something other than "all the brass" done to a Trx4. I Got the chance to drive a Trx4 Bronco early in my RC career as my rc4wd Gelande 2 had died again. I wasn't really very impressed with it bit the fact I was driving around with the diffs unlocked would of had a lot to do with that.
Negative g swap is really the way though....better bumpers really helps....more of low profile......like Carbo fiber double rear and double bull front from punks.....also ssd makes a 25$ overdrive wich will match elements stronger stock od at 13%
1. Flip bumper mount upside down both end 2. Change shox oil rate 3. Loosen spring load (lower the body) 4. Trim side (cut the whole black part) 5. Rise the sliders 6. Lower shell tower all the way down 7. Smaller battery 8. Swap lcg battery tray/relocate battery to front mount Try it & let us know what you think.
As almost all crawler and globally surface RC, the only problem is the weight. Trx4 is an incredible good crawler with every wheel portal axle and axle in brass. Mine weight 2kg more. Probably 1200 on brass. Rest in body and gagdet The lowest is the best. Give it tires. Keep the schocks. And enjoy with the best RTR truck for me.
Hey Logan, Traxxas has put out some very nice rigs over the years. My TRX4 sport was also rtr and I love it. There are lots of mods you can do without spending money, and they are all over youtube. Bumpers off is a good one. You will increase your angles there by a lot. I took the battery tray right out and relocated the radio gear and battery on the side pods. I run smaller batteries as most guys do so fitting a battery there is easy. Check out the TRX4 vids on the RcCrawler Vlogs youtube site. He does some crazy lines with his. One of his videos shows his setup. Of course you have lots of wheels and tires so that would be an easy mod. I think you will be very surprised at how much the free mods will improve performance. I'm keen to see just what you do. Cheers !!
1:Defenetly need gpm aluminum c-hubs. They improve your steering dramatically 2:get rid of that body , trim chassis. (Way toooo long) 3: Bowhouse skid does not cut it for me . Get a flat skid. 4:brass. Not too much. I only have brass treal knuckles. 5: left side is way heavier than the right. So what I did to compensate. I used a brass outer portal cover on rear right 6:servo. Go with direct power servo Holmes hobbies or nsdrc 7: tune your suspension. I like the set up on your como rig. Lay down your rear shocks. Use pen spring mod in front or desert lizard shocks. Or mini T mod on originals Tires are ok. Just cover up the veNt holes. And do the tire mod. Could upgrade in future. 8: get rid of sliders. Mount your electronic in center of chassis. 9: get rid of unnecessary plastics. Shave some weight. 10: low profile front metal bumper. 11: I would at least do the one nderdrive gear. in rear 12: distribute the weight 60/40 or as close as you can. Keep it under 6 pounds or closer to 5 13: lay down servo mount. Long sterering horn I run the nwsd scattergun chassis. And she kills it. But there are guys down here still running the stock chopped chassis and are still able to win in almost every comp
@@westdesertwheeler Anytime. Yeah. Those gpm c-hubs make a world of difference. And about the battery tray. The bow house sits in the rear which isn’t really a good idea. What I did was installed a snub nose out runner motor. And a lay down servo mount. And that gave me tons of room for my battery and the electronic. Also. I do not use a receiver box so that also saves space and weight.
Looks clean af bro I think I just should’ve bought this one already 500$ in deep with a g speed v1-c1 and I’m still not even close to finishing still need body transmitir and reciever and body posts and lots of stuff jajajaja
Front and rear bumper mod. Clip the tires, then ditch the stock esc and go with a hobby wing 1080 with a 5-slot motor or go with a hobby wing brushless system. (axe or fusion).
I love watching you make the trucks do amazing things/lines. Keep it up! (oh, and send some of that awesome terrain to Denmark, we have no such thing and I'm envious) ;)
Im pretty sure everyone adding low brass weight is mainly due to the light plastic wheels, heavy big bodies besides the sport unless its equipped w sport rack. I bought the sport kit and axial umg10 kit to use unimog body but most of it is still in the box. Mainly because the electronics I purchase get gobbled up by my trx6. The trx4 tires I use on my axe gen8 and I actually like them. Solder flux wrapped around wheels and I cut mine the opposite of what I see on utube. The tires are directional so I leave the leading center tread on and snip off the trailng center tread which is kinda of a pain in the ass so I get why it's unpopular to do. The body is nice to run once u fix the approach angle w a different bumper. Coincidentally the unimog bumper with a little trimming on the edges fit the TR4 sport body perfectly but that's the only thing I know for the bumper wise. I also use a concealed winch w that bumper. Looking forward to see what u do. This might motivate me to get rolling on the kit build since I'm at a stale mate w my 4ws Capra rtr. Thx for all the great videos and unrivaled explanations and tips. I just wish we had similar environments(NEast KS 4 me). Lol especially since winter is around the corner.
Sports don’t need much despite what the internet says. It needs adjustable shock towers, battery moved to the front, swap the bumper mounts front to rear. I prefer a different ESC to the stock. I think the HW1080 transforms the truck. Tires work well with some trimming but the stock foams go away quickly.
Heya Logan, have a look at the GRC ackerman c hubs and inner portal housing plus maybe they're high clearance rear c hubs. Im not sure how pricey these would be in the states but asiatees sells both and its def not a mod i see a lot of on trx4's but something I'm waiting for in the post that I'm keen to try out. my only other suggestions would be some ierc shock keys and all the body trimming and bumper mount flipping plus drilling a couple new holes in the bumper posts to bring them in as far as possible. I'm looking forward to seeing how your sport goes ! keep up the great content !
My favourite upgrade for TRX4 sport is to sell it and get an Element RC. Just kidding, I almost purchased one of these but my local hobby shop had an element and none of these. Maybe overdrive?
Check out my channel for mods on the TRX-4 Sport. I am also not into just adding brass. Initial upgrades/mods would be bumper/bumper mount mods to help with approach and departure angle. Also look into inner fender which will allow you to mount a shorty battery at the front, ditch the current battery tray (save weight), and allow you to mount shocks inwards. The only brass I added was outer portal cover and with those changes, I was able to get to 60/40 weight distribution.
Here's what I did with my TRX-4 Sport
Bowhouse skid
Traxxas wheelbase stretch rear links
SSD outer portal covers
Moved rear shocks forward and mounted them to the frame
12 tooth pinion
45 tooth spur
Overdrive front gears
Underdrive rear gears
Flipped bumper mounts and ditched the bumpers
Ditched the rock sliders
Method beadlocks in 2.2" (don't remember the brand)
Rc4wd Interco Iroks in the soft sticky compound at 5.75" tall
A ton of trimming to clear everything.
Set the preload all the way down in the rear, and just high enough in the front to keep it level and allow full travel.
Lots more coming too, need to do some electronics and who knows what else lol

Swap back and front bumper mounts around and flip them for more clearance

Super happy to see you have one I got one awhile ago been beating it up and love it
Logan I always like your vids. I learn much.
My next build is a TRX Sport Kit, I'm just finishing an SXC10 ii Raw Builder's Kit. My upgrades will be:
- CrawlMaster Sport 540/550, HW 1080 quic-run, free bumper mount flip/rotate, free shock mod shown by RcCrawler Vlogs, and the cheaper mods that you come up with in this series.
Looking forward to your information.
Oh and clip off and not install all those scale parts Traxxas has for the bed of the truck.
Great series idea!!!
So far I’m planning on keeping the body. Maybe something will change as I go
Right out the box it seems like a good truck and can provide tons of fun without putting more money into it,
It definitely can, I just really enjoy tuning and upgrading to increase performance
Great video love the channel. I have overdriven my front axle and have underdriven the rear axle with great results. Definitely need some brass in the back truck is to light in the rear and also put a good tire on it and a heavy set of wheels.
Savox waterproof servo good little mod for my trx4 😎🤙🏼
Hey brother, the best free mod I did to my TRX4 was to "clip" the tires. Made a world of difference on my heavy pig.
Good to know. On my terrain lug separation isn’t the main priority. Maybe I’ll try it later on
@@westdesertwheeler Looks awesome out there....much "looser" terrain in the Black Hills, SD.
KEEP THR RUBBER SIDE DOWN🇬🇧🇺🇸👍✌️
Amazing what can be achieved with a bit of care and attention to detail, excellent video.😎😎😎
Hey there I got to meet Joe ropes that you crawled with before proline by the fire. Hope I get the chance to crawl with you sometime. Love the vids! Keep it up!
My sport is totally modded but my favorite mods are the over and under drive and gpm high clearance links
Boom racing rc. The Phat AR44 axles. Get the needed weight with the performance of metal over plastic.
Cut the little triangles on the stock tires. Flip the bumper mounts. And get an lcg battery tray
I think I’ll do all that lol
You really have a knack for this. I mean the car is very capable too but that's only part of it.
ok after watching some more of your videos my earlier comment looks a bit silly.
Nothing wrong with that! I don’t think I’ll compete with this truck but making it crawl good is a top priority
One thing that's cheap and...well basically free is to flip the bumper mounts. Better approach angle.
Negative g swap is really the way though....better bumpers really helps....more of low profile......like Carbo fiber double rear and double bull front from punks.....also ssd makes a 25$ overdrive wich will match elements stronger stock od at 13%
☮️
Cut those stock tires for better performance!
best upgrades are a nice set of tires
1. Flip bumper mount upside down both end
2. Change shox oil rate
3. Loosen spring load (lower the body)
4. Trim side (cut the whole black part)
5. Rise the sliders
6. Lower shell tower all the way down
7. Smaller battery
8. Swap lcg battery tray/relocate battery to front mount
Try it & let us know what you think.
As almost all crawler and globally surface RC, the only problem is the weight.
Trx4 is an incredible good crawler with every wheel portal axle and axle in brass. Mine weight 2kg more. Probably 1200 on brass. Rest in body and gagdet
The lowest is the best. Give it tires. Keep the schocks. And enjoy with the best RTR truck for me.
Nice off-road run and Excellent RC 👍
Cheers !!
Thanks for the ideas! I’ll look at moving things to the sliders
@@westdesertwheeler Sounds good !! Enjoy.
I’m hooked bro thanks for video
Bolt on a pair of front beadlock wheels, and it becomes AWESOME!!! And this is all with the stock Tires!!!
1:Defenetly need gpm aluminum c-hubs. They improve your steering dramatically
2:get rid of that body , trim chassis. (Way toooo long)
3: Bowhouse skid does not cut it for me .
Get a flat skid.
4:brass. Not too much. I only have brass treal knuckles.
5: left side is way heavier than the right. So what I did to compensate. I used a brass outer portal cover on rear right
6:servo. Go with direct power servo Holmes hobbies or nsdrc
7: tune your suspension. I like the set up on your como rig. Lay down your rear shocks. Use pen spring mod in front or desert lizard shocks. Or mini T mod on originals
Tires are ok. Just cover up the veNt holes. And do the tire mod. Could upgrade in future.
8: get rid of sliders. Mount your electronic in center of chassis.
9: get rid of unnecessary plastics. Shave some weight.
10: low profile front metal bumper.
11: I would at least do the one nderdrive gear. in rear
12: distribute the weight 60/40 or as close as you can. Keep it under 6 pounds or closer to 5
13: lay down servo mount. Long sterering horn
I run the nwsd scattergun chassis. And she kills it. But there are guys down here still running the stock chopped chassis and are still able to win in almost every comp
Man thanks for the list! Definitely curious about those knuckles for more steering. I’ll look into it. Thanks!
@@westdesertwheeler
Anytime.
(axe or fusion).
mip stud extensions with 12mm hex amazon has weighted two stage foams and i only run brass on the front. my truck goes places that blows my mind
Oh yeah man these crawl really good out of the box
Front panhard bar mount is known for breaking after a good bump, look for an aluminum front shock tower that comes with a panhard mount too.
I have broken that 15$ part. It was 22F though and I landed on the front right wheel. Figured it to be my fault.
Definitely a 18kv hobbywing fusion .
Trim body and bumpers and lower as much as possible. Ali wheels with proline or equivalent tyres. John
Also full droop the suspension with some 70 wt
I just bought one. Keeping it totally stock.
Solid upgrades. I might go to brushless with this one. I think I will swap tires at some point
Traxxas made a good job!
Awesome vid Logan excited to watch this series and see what you do 👍
Realy cool vidéo my friend , this truck is realy cool in action ,
I realy like ! ,well done my friend 😉😃👍
Put Straight axles on, stubby front bumper, rear bumper delete, bob the bed/ frame, Regear down, front dig, Reefs 777 servo,
My favourite upgrade for TRX4 sport is to sell it and get an Element RC.
Hmmm. Capable little truck 👍🏻
Not performance related but I definitely would get the 2 axle off road trailer made for the TRX to haul my scx24 around.
Get some metal skid plates for the diff pumpkins
Overdrive cut tires
You already know rock pirates got you cover for this truck, check'em out 👍
love it man..im going to get it
excellent choice!
