  • Studying The Greats - Episode 1: Van Neistat
    Van Neistat's Channel: youtube.com/@vanneistat?si=tK...
Van is a Master Storyteller, Spirited Man and huge influence. In this video I explored his style, and tried to study his way of making videos as well as projects. It was a blast jumping headforth into a whole new and different world of creating.
This is a tribute to him and a study of his art, and he has no affiliation with the project!
    Love,
    Jonanas ❤🍍

To make Van's video you will need:
    - Screwdriver, with philips head
    - Plywood, the good kind
    - atmospheric sounds, of weird fucking nature
    - knolling, always be
    - a pen, sticky notes (yellow), and lists.
Don't show a video of someone naming things. Show a video of writting a list. A list is an order in chaos. A list is order in chaos.
    6. Repeat sentences like they have deep and meaningful quality. Repeat sentences like they have deep and meaningful quality.
    8. A camera that was a gift from a long forgoten friend from the years of bliss. If you don't have a camera you got as a gift, a regular one will dom but i use this one.

“ Do the easy thing first as a warm up to ease into the heart thing. The opposite is equally valid. Do the hard thing first because it takes more time. You are fresh. You can work in daytime. Stores are open and help is not out to dinner. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Save a good problems. Procrastination is for good problems. If at first you don't succeed, give up immediately. Move on to some other task. When you circle back, your subconscious will have worked on it. Like sleep only cheaper. Kill bad problems. Bad problems are best solved immediately. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. When you procrastinate a bad problem, it will sap your mental energy, your focus, and your time. Talk with others and find the solution before the problem consumes any more energy. When you get a parking ticket, for example, just pay it. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. Do the same thing. @jonanas.mp4 it just sort of feels like you're imitating Van too much rather than going with a new and original style that's unique to you.
You can't make a video that's like Vans simply because you are not Van Neistat.
Definitely keep doing it, though. I don't want to discourage you in any way. Make as many films as you can about whatever you want.
The highest form of flattery is imitation, and imitation is how filmmakers learn how to create their art.

i get that. in my defense - that's what a study is for, right? i've tried to go all out to explore Van's style, and i will take some things i've learned with me for my own style :)

@@jonanas.mp4 Absolutely! Keep doing it. Don't let any comment discourage you from cresting your art.
