    I was only 9 when this happened and had not long moved to Wales from Yorkshire, but my parents voted in favour of devolution and I can still remember how happy they were at this point. I strongly support Welsh independence and hope to see an independence referendum in my lifetime.

    Wow. I was not born to see this but boy does this give me goosebumps. I can only get the same feeling with Welsh Independence. C'mon Wales. Wake up. Realise your potential. Cymru am Byth!

      This was a VHS capture I did nearly ten years ago but if you want to see the whole night's programme it's here: ua-cam.com/play/PLv8P1euPvQ_aBTbdrx6mmkgYLvwfFXga3.html
      All I can say is watching it live and trying to work out which way it would go was one of the most thrilling election nights I've experienced.

    An excellent and long overdue result for Wales. What a laughing stock we would have been had the Tories and Welsh haters got their way.
    2011's Yes vote only confirmed that this was absolutely the right result for Wales.

    The Welsh Assembly should be in Swansea.Cardiff didn't vote for it .

    • @Knappa22
      @Knappa22 6 років тому +4

      Swansea really went for it as well when they were considering locations for the Assembly, I remember buying ´Welsh Assembly Sausages´in Swansea market! Swansea has a far more distinctively Welsh feeling than Caardiff any day.

    I am looking for a copy of a documentary made by BBC Wales in 1997 / 98 - called 'the office' (it wasn't Ricky Gervais' comedy..). The documentary was about the devolution process in Wales and was a fly on the wall documentary following Welsh Office officials in Cardiff.The National Assembly for Wales is celebrating 20 years of devolution this year and this documentary marked the beginning of devolved government in Wales and is an important part of our history. Does anyone know anything about it ?

    • @DBIVUK

      "The Office" TX 6 October 1998, 10:50 PM on BBC One Wales. Don't have a copy but that might help people track it down.

    its interesting how this was won by the yeses by the skin of their teeth, but now more and more people in wales are interested in governing themselves (now that the english tories are disproportionately attacking the smaller nations); yes for 2011!
