  • replacing a starter on a 2009 Chevy Cobalt with 287668 miles
I am replacing the starter from the top of the engine so I can inspect the intake manifold, throttle body and wiring harness

Thanks for posting this. Probably the best video on youtube for changing a 08' 09' 10' Chevy Cobalt starter 🙂

This is all done without any jackstand or anything you can do this without jacking the car up in the air.
I currently have no pics but I'll go through each step perfectly.
EVERYTHING DONE IS WITH THE BATTERY UNHOOKED
    1) Remove your throttle body + throttle body cable (it pulls off from the bottom, its a metal ball.)
    2) Remove your intake manifold (5 10mm Bolts + 2 10mm Nuts)
    3) Make sure to take off the evap line (press the clip together and pull it out)
    4) Take off break booster line (lift the white clip with either a flat head screwdriver) and it'll slide right out
    5) unplug the map sensor connector
    6) Unplug your injector wiring harness (it's near the bottom left (passenger) side) just push in the clip and pull them apart
    7) once the intake manifold is removed you'll see a long cylinder with 3 prongs .l...that's the starter
    8) remove 1 13MM bolt holding 2 Positive wires (the bigger one goes stright to the battery)
    9) Take off 1 10mm bolt which holds the switched 12v for the starter
    10) Remove the bottom 15mm bolt
    11) Remove upper 15mm bolt
    12) Pull starter out
To put it back together just reverse these steps. but MAKE SURE TO PUT ON THE 12V+ ON FIRST OR ELSE YOU'LL HAVE A SHORT AND YOU WILL BLOW YOUR STARTER

Instead of removing the manifold consider turning the car upside down.

@@1020autorebuild OK, here is a lol, why don't you change the starter out from underneath instead of taking the manifold off?

I needed to look at the intake manifold

@@1020autorebuild Is there an issue with the manifold on these cars? I ask because I own a cobalt.

I had wondered if that was what you were doing.

Why remove all those parts on the top when it is at the bottom of the car this is just extra work and a waste of time.

I was replacing the intake manifold gasket as well.
My car has the California emissions so it has the air pump and hoses you have to remove/ disconnect and get out of the way to remove the starter..
