The Benefits and Uses of Horesetail | Featuring Shana Lipner Grover

Horsetail likes to grow near water and can be used in teas, vinegars, and tonics. Yes, horsetail concentrates gold in it's tissues. Not enough to collect but it was a good indicator for gold prospectors in the past.

I have heard that marsh horsetail is toxic. Can you advise how to differentiate between marsh horsetail and safer versions?

Hi there! Horsetail contains thiaminase, which breaks down the necessary thiamin (vitamin B1) levels in the human body and can lead to thiamin deficiency. Hi there Eartha! There are other lovely uses of horestail such as infusing it into herbal vinegars and tonics. For plants like this, I would suggest sites like learningherbs.com/herbmentor/ (which does require a small subscription fee) who have full monographs of plants and their uses! I hope that helps!
