The crazy thing about Jake is that he still skates like this. He didn't switch heelflip a 10 in one part and say "I gotta switch heelflip a 12 for my next part"... He just skates and does what he does naturally. That's what sets him apart. He's not a product of competition or commercialism. He's the closest thing you're ever going to get to a modern Gonz.
This part was one of the quickest 0-legend instances in skateboarding. So progressive/influential for the time. Jake had a vision and it inspired a new crop of skaters. A true prodigy.
one of the most influential parts ever. this really made me think outside of the box of what i understood about skateboarding and music when i first saw it.
After awhile you realize there never was a box rather a mental block keeping you from the detachment of your old thinking patterns and into a improved ego so many close minded people think of it as something to break out of, there isn't a outside of the box because we should precieve it as the more you understand the less you are gonna think the way before you open your self to a different wave length the block is a shell of your understanding break the shell and you'll break what you think you know and understand
Jake Johnson has now inadvertently become a figurehead for anti-mainstream skateboarding in terms of social media. He reminds me of a time when skateboarding was about your interaction with the board based on a metaphysical connection. Not hindering creativity by quantitatives, I.e likes on ig.
I remember i got this video within the first few days of being out and didnt know who jake was and after watching this part i was like holy shit this dudes legit hes gonna be big.. Then he just vanished.. Makes no sense. Super underrated dude
This guy grew up in my home town where there's not much of a skate scene (State College, PA). The fact that he became pro was always a huge inspiration and showed me what was possible. His skating speaks for itself. Jake is one of the most innovative skaters I've ever seen. He's also the WALLRIDING GODDD!!!!
Still the best much respect to all involved, no doubt makes you want to skate, the point of the industry before high speed internet killed the dvd, brilliant part, amazing skills and edit no doubt straight up
thanks for posting this in such good quality.. i have the dvd but my nephew scratched soo it skips just on this part witch happens to be my favorite part of all time.aha
I went to camp Woodward for a week about 11 years ago and made a friend from Connecticut who was upsest with Jake Johnson (and it's very understandable why) he had an ongoing joke the whole week that JJ had got into a switch back tail on some ledge and was still holding it. Three days had gone by and he's like "yeah we just got confirmation that JJ is STILL in the ss back tail no landing in sight". JJ, if you're still in that switch back tail, it's time to come out of it now, it's been 11 years.
Not much I can say about that wallie off the jersey barrier to front tail that hasn't already been said. If I could show just one second of footy to space aliens, I think that would be it.
This was a long time ago now... what happened to this guy? I know he put out some other stuff, but I was expecting so much more from him... I hope he comes out with another mind blowing part like this soon
+Geoffrey Payne Al Davis and Brian Delatorre(who ride for Habitat) said they're working on a full-length GX1000 video. They both said that everybody has been killing it on trips, and that Jake is going to have an awesome part.
shout out to anyone still watching this timeless classic
Still watching baby

Eh I wouldn't say JJ is strictly like Gonz there's way more guys like Gonz and JJ is one of em.

The fact that Alien probably would've paid for Jake to get clips anywhere yet 99% of his part is in NYC is pretty dope

This part is perfect. The song makes it so much better.
+wyatt196 Agreed.
Best time in skating for me
This is arguably the best part in skateboarding history.
Yeah I wouldn't go that far. But yes, it is sick. Love how east coast this video

He’s considered a legend by many and still has footage here and there
I always loves how his switch 50’s would make you believe he was goofy if only for a second
I still get goosebumps every time I watch this. An absolute triumph and masterpiece.
The quick ollie up and flick and catch at about 3:01 leaves me speechless every time
Yeah he caught that bs flip with deep steez
Nice job with timing on the editing. He lands his tricks on each downbeat of the bass drum.
This one got me back into skating 5 years ago.
My childhood right here ❤️
This is my favorite part of all time tbh
Wally the concrete barrier to tailslide on a rail got me so hyped.
still the same skater today. killing it.
Checking in from 2021 - can still confirm this comment
a life-altering skate part.
Plenty years later , song and jake part are best efficient of skateboarding

What a great part. I have a hard time putting that in my top 5 parts of all-time, but I wouldn’t argue with anyone who does.

Jake's part got me into Animal Collective
This possibly one of the best parts I've seen. Just flows so well

LIFE BEFORE THIS PART IS IRRELEVANT
sooooo gooooodd
Mind boggling
No one has ever made a 50-50 look so good, and I think I think he’s one of the first guys to go straight over a handrail as opposed to along side it

That fakie heel on Brooklyn banks was such a beauty

Way ahead of his time.
Same boat brother.
Naturally gnar
Same spots , same tricks , the only difference is that Jake did them a lot sooner than every "hype" skaters nowadays
